Having Trouble Sourcing Hills Prescription Diet

I have one 8kg L/d dry here if someone wants to come to Doncaster to pick it up. PM me if you're desperate. :) -
I don't mean to disagree with anything Rappie says as I'm a nurse, not a Vet. I just wanted to add as a side note that we do occasionally see that type of thing in the remote community I visit - dogs who just don't respond for underlying reasons that we can't diagnose given our limited resources. BUT we have used Dectomax injectable in the clinic - off label, and the owners need to understand the risks. Have witnessed it work though.

This is purely subjective if it were my dog so take it with a grain of salt. :) I would consult with the Vet about a dental. I wouldn't bother with the lumps unless they were in areas directly impacting mobility or they had ulcerated. With the Vets consent and a blood test if possible I would give her a daily anti-inflammatory, some joint supplements, vivitonin or denosyl for her dementia and I would see a physio about the leg- perhaps she can do hydro. I would place a time limit and think about the improvements I'd wish to see in 2 months perhaps??? Keep a diary of good days and bad days. You may decide to call it quits sooner- you shouldn't feel guilty about this. You saved her-and no old dog should die in a shelter. At least if you throw everything at it and it doesn't help you'll know you have tried.

Ouch! Are you using a walkydog attachment on the bike? I have one for Geordie - the shock absorption works really well. -
High Liver Enzymes In Dogs
Staff'n'Toller replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
SAMe goes by the trade name Denosyl - comes in 3 dosages depending on the dog's weight. :) Your Vet should be able to get it. We don't have much luck getting dogs to eat L/d - well mine won't, but it's worth a try. -
LDH have several pound contracts for very large municipalities. This will not change anytime soon. This revenue would most likely be enough to keep it going. My feeling is that if no unclaimed dogs (and cats?) were adopted from this facility, they would probably just all be euthanased.
-
Another for this. And if the most suitable dog for her is taken from LDH, it frees up a pen for another dog. Double bonus.

Need To Find A Good Verterinary Surgeon
Staff'n'Toller replied to piperspal's topic in General Dog Discussion
You do need a specialist, but it's quite possible that Stephen Cutter at The Ark has done some of these surgeries - worth flicking them an email. :) -
What does seizures have to do with it? Could it possibly cause it in the future? The medication is cleared by the liver, so it's contraindicated for dogs with liver issues or related.

Good call.

Well, there's no expiry on the offer so if you decide in the next few weeks to set something up with another doler's help, I would be happy to pack and send. Have the modem to go with it too. :) Stay safe YG. Think about accepting offers of company for the next week at least. We are too proud for our own good sometimes. :p

I not sure how much upload it would use as we have a massive amount so no way to tell really but I wouldn't think it would be much, the thing is to use the router YG would need an also connection which she hasn't got. There is no way to hook the cameras I have up to a wireless dongle. Understand. :)
-
I have a router sitting here doing nothing that you can have YG, if that helps. It will turn a cable or adsl line into wifi. The cameras are very cheap to come by on ebay as I understand. But you need enough upload allowance obviously. Does it use much tlc?

Is she from Lukilab? At five months she will look long and lanky, we often call it the uglies. Don't worry, keep going as you are. Maturity and hormones will help, but you don't need to add to her food unless you and the breeder feel she is too skinny- then you should increase it in a balanced way- but thin whilst growing is the way to go for young labs. If the breeding is there, it will come out. But don't expect to see her true form until 15-24 months. :)

Anxiety And Physical/mental Exercise
Staff'n'Toller replied to kayla1's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Geordie is not a truly anxious dog but can have trouble settling at night if it's very windy outside or he knows there are possums about. Have had 100% success rate after putting on the thundershirt so far. -
Yeah Doveton closed last Saturday but full services at Highett.

Very good points. With the magic of dvd's these days it could be quite reasonable that you wouldn't need club training an awful lot. And you have FOO's twice a year..?? To do ring run throughs. My inclination would be to speak with a K9 Physio about the best surgical method for what you want to do in the future. To my mind a patella is actually better than a cruciate for long term prognosis but maybe my ideas are a bit old school. Anyways, I would be pre-booked into Physio and underwater treadmill post surgery as it's just as important that muscle wastage is reduced as much as possible and full use of the limb comes back. The worst thing you can do is wait and see in regards to Physio - don't wait until you have massive muscle wastage to do something- that can be detrimental for long term prognosis where sports are concerned. One of mine had a full leg splint from a tendon repair and was doing hydro 2-3 times a week with his splint still on at about 4-5 weeks post surgery. :)

Titre Testing While Working In A Shelter
Staff'n'Toller replied to Kobi'sDaisy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
At a guess I would say if you tested now, then in 6 or 12 months their immunity will be higher, later- which ins a good thing to have measured field exposure. Probably the biggest risk is you catching ringworm, if you're working with dumped/found kittens. -
