CAn you post the measurements? I have a forester, so most probably won't fit any way.. Yep I will post measurements tomorrow. I'll send it by PM so I stop hacking TO's thread. What year is your forester? There is one here that is 2007 I can check against the PB.

Not sure TO my false floor was 200mm high. I don't know how high your drawers are..?? Do you have a sunroof? If so, I think the roof height is slightly less than my ST.
-
I have to go back on the list  as I had to take my false floor out. if anyone's looking to buy false floor & double gated (no divider) puppy bars I have some for the pre 2007 X-trail. Be good for multiple little dogs.

I use the walkydog and a blackdog Y front harness. :)

Back when it first started it used to be great. I actually remember going to the ?first one at the Royal Exhibition Buildings. Samples show bags were free, and you could buy pretty much all products at a discount. On a positive note, it seems they are trying to go back in that direction somewhat by providing free parking and discount entry to DogsVic members. :) They need to make the day cheaper for families. They are they ones that need to meet and greet pure breed dogs, and to be exposed to dog sports. It's great that there's a rally obedience comp too.

In previous years there were only as many breed stands as people from the breed clubs willing to man them.

Sick Dog, Vets Don't Know What's Wrong
Staff'n'Toller replied to *kirty*'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Meningitis? One of mine had similar symptoms but I don't remember the WCC numbers - ruptured gall bladder though - only a small amt of free fluid seen in the abdomen on U/S. -

Thanks for the comments. Erny the Distemper paragraph was just some interesting info to add, it wasn't directly related to high immunity etc. I will read the article but I won't write any more, I think I will just make myself and everyone else more confused. Kennel cough is not a good example anyway due to it's multiple strains. -
Osteosarcoma In 10½ Year Old
Staff'n'Toller replied to TessiesTracey's topic in General Dog Discussion
No that's ok. See that's the kicker. The mass isn't that large from what we can see, but it has caused some looseness in the rear molar, so it's what we can't see that's of more concern to the vet (and us). I also just made the mistake (i say mistake because he almost put an element of doubt in my mind ) of speaking to Rod Straw at bvsc. Amazing guy and even offered to squeeze us in to see him, but further treatment is just not something we want to subject her to for HER sake I have to be comfortable with this decision and that's what I'm struggling to come to terms with i guess. Regardless of anything else this disease would take her in the end and it would become more uncomfortable for her. Going round in circles much! StaffnToller - not harsh at all. I'm going to call the vet now and ask about pain meds. I should also explain that he did say that we could have a referral should we choose to go that route, and on Friday when all this happened he didn't offer pain meds primarily I guess because he wanted to give us the weekend, a - to see how Tess went and b - to give us a chance to make a decision. In amongst all this I feel also that i should mention that it was our sons 21st birthday on Saturday, we'd got tons organised for that (which sounds really bloody selfish saying it out loud) and I only lost my Mum to metastatic breast cancer (spread to her brain & cerebral cortex) 4 months ago. It's been a rough ride. That's fair enough of him, it sounds like you've had lots to deal with recently. You may not even need to take her to the specialist. Often your Vet can call and have a chat about the case or you pay the cost of a phone/email consult in conjunction with sending the xrays to the specialist. Often this means they just concur with your Vet and give you a treatment plan, or they may have some other good ideas. :) -

Osteosarcoma In 10½ Year Old
Staff'n'Toller replied to TessiesTracey's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm going to be a bit harsh (apologies ) and say it's a bit old-school not to give out pain relief. Obviously I have no idea of the extent of the tumour but from what I know of palliative cancer treatment pain relief is an ethical issue and it should be offered to you. Research on Meloxicam shows that it can have some benefit on slowing tumour activity. If she doesn't want to drink, you would have to assume it may be painful first and foremost and it would be remiss to not try pain relief and see if that helps the issue, after discussion with your Vet, of course. :) There are lots of pain relief options available to you. I would urge you to ask for a referral to your closest oncology specialist - your Vet must supply it if you ask - go in for a consult with the specialist and state that you would like to hear about palliative care options and that you're simply not interested in chemo/surgery. They should be very happy to explain the tumour activity and what options you have available to you. :) It's hard to think clearly when you are in this situation, but if you feel that your girl is miserable, please get a second opinion from another Vet, or a specialist. Don't worry about offending anyone, you are your girls advocate and in the end, you need to feel you have done everything possible to help. It will assist you later with the grieving process. -

Teaching The Weaves!
Staff'n'Toller replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You absolutely need the DVD. I also found the booklet very useful. There is something he is not understanding, but I wouldn't give up on the method just yet. :) I had trouble with angles, so for us, running past the poles was partly that we hadn't done enough proofing of every angle, and for Geordie, partly a "can I get the ball for free?" He is just like that!! I only had to toss the ball once accidentally and he thought "oh yeah, she's a pushover!" But I'm not saying this is Hudson - assume he doesn't quite understand his job. When you get the DVD you'll see why it's so important not to go any further until you've fixed the previous issues or you'll compound your own problems. -

This is the part I either don't understand, or think we often misunderstand. To me, immunity is immunity. Doesn't immunity mean the body recognises the disease and therefore has the anti-bodies (or, as time and low or no exposure goes by, the "memory" of the antibodies) in preparedness to combat the introduction of the disease should the dog contract it? Is there really such a thing as "more immune" or "higher immunity"? I don't think so - not how I understand it. You're either immune or not immune, no? This question not directed to you specifically or inparticular, SnT - just using your quote as the example of what I'm referring to :). I understand what you're saying. And I agree with it according to Jean Dodds teachings, but I'll let you know the reason why I said it: There are more strains (?viral) of KC than we vaccinate for. Why do we see dogs in my practice regularly who have yearly C5 vacc's but catch KC at the dog park? Aren't they 'immune'? Why weren't their memory cells sparked instead? Why did they become symptomatic? Surely they are not all non-responders? (Maybe they are??) Conversely, why have my own dogs not had a bout of KC since before I started nursing, despite the fact the Stafford has not been KC vacc'd since 2003, and my Toller since 2006..??? FTR I may virucide the soles of my shoes whilst mopping the floor but the dogs come into contact with my shoes and clothes when I walk in the door. Not looking for an argument with anyone, just my own general musings. :) Whilst I follow Jean Dodds protocol myself, and I think it makes sense, is she the gospel? Do we know all there is to know about viruses? When I went through Vet Nursing school, I witnessed a very heated discussion between our lecturer (a retired Vet) and the vaccine company rep (also a Vet). My lecturer argued that at a specific point in time Distemper seemed to disappear. City dogs were just starting to be vacc'd - country dogs, where he worked - certainly were not. He was in a large farm dog/greyhound breeding area and argued until he was very red in the face that Distemper was very commonly seen, and over a period of months it subsided, never to return to previous levels. His argument being that herd immunity did not yet exist in the 'country dog' population. -

Staff'n'Toller replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When you say 'run past the weaves' can you clarify? Running on the outside of the poles? You are using two sets of poles 4-6 feet apart, yes? Do you have the 2x2 handbook? -
does this mean he has access to these other animals? cause 2 dogs will create a lot more havoc if they can both chase the stock. this waves a big red flag at me .... two dogs are a PACK ..and will be much more inclined to chase/harass other animals :( It is a natural instinct . Training can help a single dog ..... but a single dog's behaviour toward other animals will change once it has a pack , and training may well be totally forgotten as instinct takes over Totally agree. By all means get another dog for company, but ensure dogs and stock are separated during the day when you're not there.

I Feel Like An Idiot Calling My Vet Every Week...:-(
Staff'n'Toller replied to Niki8's topic in General Dog Discussion
Worm him again with drontal in two weeks' time and then continue with the interceptor. Make sure he has no fleas as they can carry tapeworm too. Before making an appointment ask the nurse for advice and their recommendation about whether to come in or wait and see...we can generally tell you. :) -
The real BSB would have no problem, your headrests on the other hand...
-
Don't want to state the obvious, but, is he getting enough food? 1.5-2 cups a day is generally what I would feed my 18-22kg dogs...maybe it's worth a weigh in at the Vet just to see if he's holding his previous weight/s. :)

Calcium Supplement With Magnesium
Staff'n'Toller replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A compounding pharmacy may be able to make what you want in a liquid flavour base, you'd have to know what ratio you wanted though. They would probably know the best forms. -
If you can't get near it you'll have to see a Vet tomorrow. It will continue to be highly irritating as it's a foreign body in the skin.

Hi San, I teach Puppy School at West Doncaster Vet. I have a course beginning 29.12.12, 'puppy parents' only for the first class, so we can discuss toilet training, puppy mouthing and other pressing things in depth. Feel free to PM me over the weekend if you'd like the details. :) Mel.

Is it possible for you to find another clinic that has a digital Xray and would he lay on the table on his side - conscious for a quick picture? Maybe you can go in and wait, then take him straight home again.

I have given it a couple of times in the past but never seen any aggression. My understanding is that dogs who *may* occasionally guard resources, could do so more seriously with valium on board. I've never heard anything about Xanax and idiopathic type aggression.
