Film Slr Lenses On Digital Slrs
Purple Julie replied to Purple Julie's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Ok, so here is the answer - they do work, but not when you're in the shop trying them out. There were a few settings that needed to be adjusted before the camera would take a photo with the old lenses. Again, I am talking specifically about Pentax (compatable) lenses. I don't know how you'd go with other brands of camera and previous SLR lenses. -

That's a good idea. I think I will do that! -
I use Picasa at the moment too, ish.

I hear a lot about people using photoshop here. Now I was wondering how come so many people have it and I don't! (I can't afford it, that's probably why!) I was wondering how everyone obtained their copy of photoshop, so here's my poll so that people can remain anonymous if they didn't obtain it legally by buying it. Went a bit overboard on the choices!

I think they look great! I'm no expert, but I think the red bikes look better as a subject, than the black, blue and white one.

Film Slr Lenses On Digital Slrs

Oh, I think I mustn't have understood you or I was thinking about something else. I believe they will fit and have the same mount. I don't know if the film SLR lens is AF though. I know that when I used Dad's camera, I had to move the thing around to get the focus right, so maybe it is not an AF lens. -
Ok, maybe this is a really dumb question, but here goes... Will a digital SLR autofocus when an old film SLR lens is attached? Basically, is the autofocus in the lens or in the camera body? (In case you were wondering, I'm thinking about Pentax cameras as all their old SLR lenses fit current DSLR cameras, but this question can apply to all brands).

Mrs D, I don't have any lenses or filters at the moment, but I thought I'd add to your post with another relevant question. What do people think about the inexpensive filters that are available on Ebay? You can get a set of 5 colour filters for $49. They have different packs, and I'm sure I've seen polarising filters by these people too, but I can't seem to find them at the moment. ETA: I found the pack that has the polarising filter in it.Here 6 filters for $75 in this pack. Do people reckon these are decent?

On digital cameras you can adjust the quality (or pixels) of the photos before you take them? What setting do you normally have your camera set to? I have my 3MP camera on the highest setting. The photos taken on the higher setting end up being more megabytes on the computer though! For those who have 6 or more megapixels, do you take all your photos on the highest setting or only some? If you take them on the highest setting, how do you store them? Do you just let them sit on your computer hard drive, or do you burn them onto CD/other and only leave smaller versions on your computer?

Thanks guys! I was sure they were long lasting bones! Maybe they were when Jyra was a puppy! So, can you give your dog lamb shanks as part of a BARF diet then?
-
We gave Jyra a lamb shank the other day and I was expecting that it would last forever, that she would get the meat off it and the bone would stay around. But apparently no-one saw her with it much after she was given it. Do you think she would have been able to chew right through the bone and eat it all? The other possibility is that she buried it. But she has never buried bones before. But then she's been doing some strange things lately. We haven't noticed any places that look like a bone burial spot, but we haven't searched either.

Help! I Have An Escape Artist

She is usually inside when people are home. I don't think she spends a lot of time outside by herself when we are home. -
Help! I Have An Escape Artist

The latest update is that Mum left out a food toy for Jyra when she went out today, then she came home half-way through her meeting to check up on Jyra. She parked on the street and quietly entered the house so that Jyra didn't hear her come home. Mum looked out the window, and there Jyra was, at the small gate sticking her head through it, whining and doing all she could to try and open it. (Jumping fences only seems to occur to Jyra when she is chasing something!). Jyra has started off playing with the toy when Mum left. Mum returned after an hour and found her doing this. She is fine when left inside by herself. She doesn't even want to go outside when mum is out the back and the doors are left open. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow for a check, but I think she is perfectly healthy and it is probably a behaviour issue. -
Lure Racing And Coursing
Purple Julie replied to deltron's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Lure coursing is on this Sunday (26th) at KCC from 11-3. But don't get there at 2, as sometimes they pack up early if there isn't many people there. -

SnT, see the edit, in response to MY routines. Jyra doesn't get overly excited when I do go home and I ignore her if she does and only give her attention when she settles. My Dad's routine is pretty regular as he works full-time. My mum is retired and she doesn't really have a regular routine, in and out various times. She is home the most, but Jyra loves Dad more. Jyra knows when people are leaving the house and sometimes she would go and stand at the door to be let out, other times she will try to melt into the furniture and sook about going outside. She has a rope toy in the yard which she doesn't play with much. I mentioned bones and kongs in my original post. But no, not really many toys in the yard. ETA: Why get a vet check? What would we be looking for in that? Also, I have asked my mum to fill Jyra's kong with mince and freeze it. Then after it is frozen, when they go out next, they can give her the frozen kong. Hopefully that will keep her entertained and keep her mind off other activities that she shouldn't be doing. -
Okay, I'd like some advice from the behaviour experts here. Jyra has dug her way out of our garden and to the streets two days in a row. Click here for more details. Read the first post by me, then there is an extra post further down about the second escape episode. We think we have now got her exit place sealed up, so hopefully it won't happen again. But she will still get herself into the garage, fortunately she can only open the back garage door and not the front one and we don't think she will be able to open that one ever. Ok, so what is the cause of this behaviour? These are the options: 1. Boredom 2. Separation anxiety 3. Sooking about being outside and not inside Re: point number 3. Today mum was out in the backyard and Jyra wouldn't go outside to be in her company. Jyra is reluctant to go outside when we leave the house. In the past I have left her alone inside for several hours with no issues or damage to the house. (My parents do not wish to keep her inside when there is no-one home though). I'm not sure what separation anxiety would look like, but I don't really think it is that. Re: point 1. She is five, why hasn't she got out before? My Dad does walk her regularly. I gave her a good walk and obedience on Sunday. I'm considering 1 and 3 as the real options, but I don't really know what to do. More obedience and walks has been suggested, or new toys outside, or a marrow bone cut in half lengthways to keep her occupied. I have a kong, but she doesn't really get enthused much by it. ETA: I don't live at home during the week. I am studying and living on campus, I have been there all year. I go home on weekends and school holidays. If it's me she's missing, this should have started earlier in the year.

Chicken Necks, Frames, Ribs Etc

The Chinese butcher shops at Box Hill sell chickens for $2.20kg. They are called 'boiling chickens'. It's great value. -
Lure Coursing - Kcc Park, Victoria.
Purple Julie replied to BARTESS's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
All the best with the fires CTD, are you a member of the MFB or the CFA, or is it something else? Tollersowned, usually there are quite a lot of people there, but it's not crowded or anything like that. Maybe about 50 or so people, and people come and go, so it varies. Not sure how many will be there today because of the hot weather, but Jyra and I are going! I wonder about lure coursing, hot weather, drinking water and bloat though. The dog needs water because of the exercise and the heat, but also because of the exercise, I don't want to let Jyra drink too much in case she gets bloat. -

A welcome ray of sunshine? What makes you think of her like that? Wasn't she gorgeous swimming in the dam BTW, I'd definately be giving her a bath after that! She's a water baby! I think the ducks also helped! Might see if we can give her a bath on Saturday. -
How Can We Go About Getting Prong Collars
Purple Julie replied to jesomil's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am wondering how many laws once they are made ever get reversed? It is so much harder to reverse a law than to prevent it from becoming a law in the first place. So maybe it is too late. I don't know what you can do jesomil, but go for it! -

I believe that was Roxy's mum and the dog was Roxy. She posted on page three of this thread and her sig says that he/she is a boxer X. A welcome ray of sunshine? What makes you think of her like that? -

So sorry that you missed it Bella, it sucks to do things like that. I'm sure we all have at some stage. My apologies for Jyra's behaviour and noises. I think maybe I'd better send my Dad along to the next one. Just recently Jyra has become fearful of thunder and fireworks (used to be fine, so don't know what has happened). Anyway, I was out tonight and there were fireworks somewhere. Jyra was scared and climbed up onto Mum and Dad's laps where she's not normally allowed. They didn't let her stay there which is good, but my Dad decided to take Jyra outside, for a walk on the lead and there were more fireworks and Jyra pulled on the lead straight for home. She was already scared at home, and then Dad takes her out of her comfort zone of the house! What was he thinking? I think I have a bit of an uphill battle with my parents. How can I achieve anything with Jyra when they do stupid things like that? Grr. Annoyed at Dad.
