At the kennels i work at that is all we feed unless a specific diet is required love it - easy to use and healthy as well! If you want to freeze then i reccomend making small bags for around 3 days worth in each bag otherwise we found that if freezing the whooe, bag it dries out??

I work in a boarding kennel and we get KC every christmas just like all the others!! we only get it VERY mildly - lucky us If there is one dog with it and everyone is ok we isolate to prevent a spread but if 5 come in on the same day there is no hope so we mix them with the other dogs still and i fond all the regulars are fine and NEVER get it bu the new comers are the unlucky ones! i might point out as well that we socialise the dogs in small groups so spread is practically unavaoidable, but as sandgrubber said have a KC party i find that the ones that are exposed to it build up immunity - hence why the 2 older whippys didnt suffer symptoms most likely!! And just like the flu best treatment is bed rest and a childs dose of bendryl works wonders on most dogs I wouldnt worry about isolating them come summer its EVERYWHERE - summer seems to be the time of yr for it.. opposite to the flu funnily enough :S

not all people are as thoughtfull about the puppy buying process as we all are and dont think about these things beofre a purchase but i dont think we should hold blame on them for this in this harsh manner i feel sorry for them to had to go through this would be terrible at least they know now it isnt a cheap pet to have and im sure many others now know because of their experience and i think that at least it has been a learning experience for many hug to all

I think you would be better off with a Mars Coat King rather than a Furminator. The teeth are too close together on a Furminator. Check with Clipperworld, they will help you. +1!! agree Clipperworld will tell u which coat king to get but a furminator is nooo good on a sayoyed coat so save ur money

Tips And Tricks For Giving Dogs Their Medication
kirst_goldens replied to Pepi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
straight down the hatch here as well i work in a boarding kennel and cattery so needless to say im a bit of a pro hahaha cats are the hardest though no doubt... we have to fight over who gets to do it lol i dont mind so much... We do have a scottish fold boy that will eat the tablet off the palm of ur hand... i dont get it i think he is strage hahaha its not a flavoured one either... just licks it and they picks it up and starts chewing?? lovely cat he is my fav to give meds to -
hrmm i wish i had known earlier! u can go to the RSPCA and plead ur guts out and they will do what they can and put money towards the operation - sometimes they will make u sign over the dog and readopt it but her adoption is only about 250 bucks so its cheaper though i wouldnt reccomend this option unless u trusted the person u were dealing with - i have known a few people to follow this though and all have their babies back safe and happy and have all now got pet insurance lesson learned the hard way

kirst_goldens replied to ShesaLikeableBiBear's topic in General Dog Discussion
i will post some in on sunday and next week and i want a copy this is making me HUNGRY hahahahaha should i post in here or in the thread linked?? ETA: love the deserts list is about 3 times as long as the others hahaha -
google pictures on both and u wuill see the difference - the furminator is like a very sharp and VERY fine comb and the coat king is like a rake but with hooks on the end... hrmm im not good at this lol look at pictures, they are both fantastis being a groomer i use both and as u mentioned Gretel they are both useful for different coat types - i found that dogs like labs shepherds and beagles corgies etc were great with the furminator whereas the coat king is good for longer style coats like leos, cavies, goldens, border collies etc... making sence?? i have probably made it worse lol i suck at explaining and to think im a teacher HAHAHAHAHAHA

LOL the poor vacuums and ur poor pocket those arn't cheap!! If ur wanting a furminator the ons sold on ebay are usually sold by Clipperworld - by from them direct and if u have an abn its trade prices so cheaper again www.clipperworld.com.au love their stuff there and they are VERY helpful

I guess i too am a believer in a dog having some dog pack time - ie running with mates at a park or something, having said that i am not into meeting strange / rude dogs as i too have had some bad exp. I guess for some dogs a human pack is enough and for others its not, its all personality and what they are used to and taught i guess. And at the end of the day u are the dogs pack and get to decide who can play with ur pack, hence why they will often look at u for approval before running off once they here the ok off u go command i love watching them all run together though magic to watch how they play and interact with one another

What To Feed My Golden Pup
kirst_goldens replied to GoldenGirl85's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i find raw to be the same cost but i am only feeding one dag at current and i am new to raw feeding so maybe some others could help you there, i know of plenty of people and breeders who raise their puppies on raw but as mentioned maybe avoid if you are not confident in researching and making sure its right - it requires a bit of dedication and if ur short on time and patience i would give it a miss LOL i would reccomend looking into it for when the pup is older though definatley... -
I WAS going to say maybe he feels better wth the addedd calcium cause he is stronger or something but those behaviours are different to what i was thinking LOL i hvae no idea it is strange changes but good by the sounds of it
-
yeh i imagine it would be cheaper as well as is it a product made for humans and as well all know as so as u advertise good for dogs the price sky rockets LOL Let me know how you go:)
-
lucas paw paw balm from the chemist or supermarket will help as well, i use it on dry pads so i guess it would do the same for a cracked one?? if ur dog comes inside massage it into the pads and try to get him to stay still afterward so it soaks in - this isnt always possible and helps to do it late at night when the dog is warn out or after a walk so he will slepp and stay off his feet for awhile hope that helps?
-
i have a pet one but its the cordless type - i dont think it would bother me either way though i always have a power point near by and a cord isnt that annoying LOL as long as it is quiet and does a good job i would be happy
-
found something that mentioned use of steroids is now abnned for a period of time or something but i dont know what he actually did but as erny said earlier if done for all the right reasons then its not so bad... just hope this was the case though i cant see monash taking him on if it was something really bad LOL

im down in VIC but many clubs down here have bright coloured bandanas(usually red or yellow) and when a dog is wearing it everyone knows to give the dog some space if u could find a club that has something similar it could make his first few trips a little easier so he can get used to it without dogs in his face the whole time?? im not a trainer or anything though...

Obedience Instructors Going Too Far!
kirst_goldens replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The things being said - dogs hit etc.. is rediculouos i would be walking ASAP and if ANYONE EVER put their hands on my dog they would be hospitilized! i can not believe in this day and age they way animals are being treated! -
Thats crap they should all be entered all recognised breeds should have a chance to enter and if none do then so be it but its unfair IMO to leave some breeds out
