**urgent** Old Dog Needs A Home Asap
kirst_goldens replied to kirst_goldens's topic in General Dog Discussion
I did think of them actually... will they PTS though because of his teeth?? They are usually really good but his teeth are really bad so i think even they might not be able to fix him up -
Hey all posting here for better sight. A little Chi X JRT (about Chi size) Boy named SAMPSON, came into TAFE yesterday for a vet check and vaccination. The Vet noticed his teeth were in really bad shape and he would need several extractions very soon and booked him in for the procedure on Tuesday. The little guy came in for a bath today as well and when we asked the owner about the procedure and was she ok about the cost - approx $400 She stated i will just put him down... The whole class froze... She said well he is male aggressive and old so why bother nobody likes him anyway... He is suffereing so isnt it the vet's job to stop his pain and put him to sleep?? We replied with.. he isnt in any pain so he isnt suffereing - have you considered rehomeing or dropping him at a shelter? She said he isnt house trained so i wouldnt want to burden another family with him so i will just put him to sleep... We talked her around and she will now consider rehomeing him and has given us her details and the vet clinic has agreed to let us know if she books him in to be done. I am sadly unable to take the little guy on and fear that if i drop him at a shelter he will be put to sleep anyway If ANYONE is able to help me find this sweet man a home Pls let me know ASAP. Doggy details: WILL NEED TEETH WORK VERY SOON - QUOTED $400We have only spoken to one vet about costs so it may be cheaper elsewhere Male Chi X JRT he is about the size of a Chi but JRT markings 15 yrs old - i know this will be a problem :S Aggressive to some males Quiet little guy - sweet hearted, but will need some work and time to readjust, i nearly took him on the spot he is a perfect lap dog and loves his cuddles Pls ask if i missed some details you need to know If you know someone that might be able to take him on then please PM me and i will give you my details

Breeders' Conditions When Selling A Puppy
kirst_goldens replied to Zug Zug's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not necessarily. If a breeder is using imported stock....stock that they paid a premium to import, I can definitely see why they would want pet pups to be desexed.....because they would not want their imported lines used indiscriminately. They would want to be the ones to engineer the use of the genetic material being used as they obviously imported with a view to the future. And I suppose the same can be said of any breeder who puts a lot of time, effort and forethought into their program and maps out the future carefully. They would not want just anyone using their lines, and who can blame them? Of course we know why breeders place restrictions on their puppies, but if they have such a keen desire to do so, they could always keep the litter for themselves. As a purchaser for me, there is no in between.........either sell the whole puppy unrestricted or don't sell them at all. Personally, I am just not interested in restricted puppy sales and provides absolutely no benefits to the purchaser whatsoever :D Unrestricted dogs sold can be used to breed with - yes i know that they cant be registered but hell most BYB dont care - they see a really nice dog they scooped up entire with no legal contract binding them to anything and off they go to shepherds with crappy hips and oodles and god knows what else. If the dog is a pet why does it need to be on a main register?? this register is for entire dogs which are to be used for breeding and showing?! As the rottie breeder mentioned earlier - sorry name has evaded me - there are plenty of dogs that were pick in their litter and show quality dogs in pet homes on the limited register - doesnt mean the dog isnt fantastic just means its a pet and will be desexed - i dont see a problem here and i can understand it completely As for the other conditions hell no to the whole return of the dog thing - if u sell to a pet home then commit to it u cant have it back in 2 yrs time cause u changed ur mind!! by all means ask to show it on behalf of the owner but its the dogs owners decision not the breeders. Diet i too would give reccomendations and information then its up to the owner, same with Vet and Grooming. I fully support breeders rescrictions and their right to select their dogs future homes but i think that the breeder u are talking about here is not really wanting to sell this puppy to a pet home. Keep looking lol -
for a whippet?? what types are u after?? like oatmeal, whitening, conditioning??

Stained Fur On Feet And Mouth
kirst_goldens replied to luv mini schnauzers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
most cases of the staining i find is diet, i always try to convert to RAW as i am yet to see a dog on raw that still has staining!! my little JRT is 15 this yr and had horrible staining everywhere and he is now on rae and doesnt lick and the stains have been clipped out so almost no staining anymore i love it. The face u could carry around a rag like the newfy breeders and wipe her face alot lol i dont know about faces sorry -
wahl should be fine for th job but if u are not showing then clip out the feet makes it much cleaner and easy for grass seed inspecting and what not and will drag less dirt into the house, but if showing then wahl are great roseline is second best but a massive price jump!!

my boy is a JRTX possibly westie or scottie he is 15 atm and is going strong he was my Poppy's dog and we inherited him when he passed away... he was on my dog and other supermarket foods with them and got a chocolate frog every morning from the milkbar when he went to get the paper. When he came to us he was on dodgy supermarket brads until i got me some knowledge then he was swapped onto 4 legs and royal canin and has in the last 2 months swapped onto BARF and some suppliments due to some light arthiritis in the rear legs since being on the raw he has come along in leaps and bounds and is like a puppy again so i think he has along way to go... He wasnt in bad condition on the crappy food but i have no doubt that the raw will mean he lives longer.. he was not looking great before the raw/premium dry, the vert didnt want to put him under to get his teeth cleaned thinking he wouldnt wake up but now has no probs doing it as he is healthy as a horse. He got his first vet visit when i started working at the boarding kennels 2 yrs ago. My old cat dies about 4 yrs ago at about 13 yrs... he was feed snappy tom and whiskas and died of kidney failure... vet attributed it to the food alone and i trust this vet like no one else with my babies so i dont touch that crap anymore and my Maine Coon kitten is on raw meat and royal canin dry ETA: he has been an outside dog all his life and gets the occasional visit inside but i find the cat harrases him lol and he also acts liek he is about to get his head ripped off - i think due to being yelled at for being in the house by poppy he was also never vaccinated other then the 4 puppy vaccs the pet shop payed for and other then his gross teeth he has never been to the vet and out lived his microchip hahaha i took him recently to get him vaccinated as i work in a kennels and was worried i might give something to him - silly i know but im a worrier lol so he has been vaccs now and re microchiped.

naww!! puppy fix complete hehe

a white shep can and is still purebred!! if it had pedigree papers and was in a reg litter then it is a registered pedigreed dog... i dont see how it is no longer a purebred just because it is white?? Thats like saying a sable border collie isnt purebred cause it isnt black and white?? edited to fix my wording re the above post

Do You Thik He's Still Too Fat?
kirst_goldens replied to HugUrPup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i find that vets are very reluctant to tell people their dogs or cats are overwieght because alot of owners dont like to hear it and the vets fear they are alienating the clients and that they will loose them as clients... which i think is a crock... they should be stating very clearly your dog is overweight and help the owner create a sensible plan to help the dog loose the extra weight and keep their clients in the long run?? I also think a few kgs to go on ur little puggy boy - he is a pet so could be a little lighter to help with his breathing and joints as well i know many will disagree but i think if its a pet keep it lean -
Are There Any Side Effects From Worming A Puppy?
kirst_goldens replied to Lauren Golden's topic in Puppy Chat
Agree with u on the worming - can sometime give them an upset belly though i totally disagree with the frozen necks and wings as freezing them is the same as cooking - they can splinter? I would go with a frozen kong and frozen toys, the cold is very soothing on their gums ETA: Search the forum for raw/natural or BARF and heaps of threads will come up on a recipe for u and also garlic is fine and is good for dogs i would say in a small amount though -
heheh i was laughing as me and a work mate were scrubbing BARF stains off a white greyhound at work the other morning... we are always doing short coated dogs... even small ones i think some people dont like the hair and i know a few who will openly admit CBF as their reasoning LOL
-
+1 We see this alot where i work - we use wing and necks to help keep weight on entires as they drop it really fast in the boarding environment and they will often have mucousy poos with a little blood for maybe 2-3 days and then they are fine and in 9 cases out of 10 their stools are better after then they were when they came to us, being a puppy of course i can see it being a little more cautious subject but kepe an eye on it im sure the little one will come good though

Bahahaha i did see it! that was a crack up! and yeh i know the dog issue is not funny but her face was...
-
Mmm, I had a vague hope that they might somehow shrivel between being alive and making it to my freezer I think you're right. Will have to go harrass a couple of butchers. I get the feeling I'll be spending a lot of time there unless my long-term freezer stacking skills improve immensely. Thanks haha they are a little smaller of course less the feathers and all that but yeh roughly that size

Another Silly Dog Park Conversation
kirst_goldens replied to KismetKat's topic in General Dog Discussion
I groom a few they are usually mini schnauzer size and have the schnauzer coat colouring but poodle curls and texture hard to explain... but if u do a schnauzer breed clip on them they do look alot like one some have a slightly more poodle shaped face ie narrower and longer muzzle... i think the originatore just like the name hahaha like the MooPoo hahaha Malt X Poodle a new fav bahahahahaha
