  1. Could the strang gait and limp have something to do with his ear, as the inner ear is connected with balance etc? i was thinking the same thing - could be due to the ear problem rather then unrelated, makes perfect sense to me ?
  2. i know this is a stretch but my dads good mate used to own one and it was always an inside dog lol was a bit of a comedian as well i hear.. won them lots as well so i would say it makes sense??
  3. thank u!! hahaha It is very true and perfect for this situation as well!! i have spoken to his owner tonight and she was trying to give him to me through the phone i swear!! they wont be getting another dog i dont think lol they learnt their lesson hahaha funny though they arnt dog people those are her words.. WHY BUY A DOG THEN?? I love ur quote in ur sig as well the slow and stupid will be eaten first hahahahahahhahaha
  4. i would think they would dust out easily - im assuming that these ones from the states are more like the chalks used in dog showing?? i dont know much about them i dont personally use them - which now that i have said that i realise what u mean about being too soft - it wont grip to the coat lol
  5. i would get a second opinion im not up near u but maybe someone can suggest a vet for u... I find that certain vets have an interest in certain things like skin problems or ear infections or somehting like that and they will look into it and learn alot about it - this might also be because they see alot of it in the area? so most vets specialise in something without even knowing it other vets on the other hand are happy to not longer further their knowledge and will do what seems to work or what they have used before and persist with that method. I would find a vet someone has used for something similar as mentioned earlier and they will be much more help - i am not a vet but if u say it was struvite crystals?? then according to that info posted it needs antibiotics and then wean off them - no mention of a diet change... Try something other then those perscription diets... i HATE them with a passion... i would ask the vet when ur there what makes it different and discuss it with them then do some of ur own research into how u can make the same changes without using that food - i think she is getting carried away and it will be nothing as bad as she thinks lol well i sure hope so anyway!! good luck and keep us updated
  6. fudge will last forever wont it?? i have used it my hair - a long time ago though - and it had to grow out some i even dyed over the top of cause it took so long!! What were the chalks?? would be interested if i can get them over here they would be good for stencil work
  7. YAY!! well done!! i have been following ur Tango posts as well and i think i wuv him lol You have been so dedicated to that man and he has done u proud!! he is turning into a real heart dog isnt he lol keep up the updates!!
  8. hahaha i know!! i work at a kennel and i see it all the time and at tafe many owners come in an argue black and blue their dog is not a cocker X poodle its a cockerpoo or a spoodle... different breeds apparently /:rolleyes: I have a good client who i love to groom her dogs though and she has a schnauzer cross poodle and she first booked it in as a schnauzer for a breed clip... whne i saw him i subtly dropped the what is he crossed with and she came back with god knows i know its schnauzer and something what u think and i thought... THANK GOD! Someone who knows better!! hahaha i loved it and i love her dogs hehe they get special treatment for being too cute! I have come to accept that some wont even listen so i get tthe job done and out they go lol one comes in and he is a spoodle but looks a bit more like a labradoodle... hard to tell but they get him done in a cocker clip.,.. bahahahahahaha looks so dodgy!! Looks like we missed a bit but she comes in all smiles oh thank u he is perfect!! ;) Whatever makes her smile... im happy with that lol i wont argue
  9. thanks! i thought so too hahaha i can only try lol He is in great health other then his teeth and he is white with tan spots and a very grey head hahaha he is chi size and has that head shape but jack russel colours and he is smooth coat as well. I have a 15 yr old JRT that would love a mate but my mother disagrees i am looking at house currently but i wont have one in time for this boy
  10. both patterns u suggested are brought and paid for on ebay hehe and i also looked at the fabric for sale and i am watching a bulk lot of flanelette over 2 kgs of the stuff lol!! see how high it gets i might go scope out the op shops on sunday to see how much clothes i can get from there its fun already lol i dont even know how to sew so im getting the old lady to teach me the ins and outs of the sewing machine and the patterns hahaha should be interesting!! when i have the fabric and machine and what not sorted i will repost for any shelters needing jackets to place an order
  11. still nothing?? Poor Spaghetti i hope he hasnt been nicked and hidden away somewhere... fingers crossed for all looking
  12. i have contacted them and am waiting for a response, if i cant get him in anywhere else he will be going there for sure but i am trying to keep him out of a shelter and i have a home or two lined up depending on how he goes with kids and cats and what not so finding out some more info tonight hopefully so i can get him organised You have all been fantastic i cant thank you enough He will have to give you all kisses to say thank you !!
  13. casster17 we are planning it for him now I couldnt deal with moving him to another home to have him hurt someone and have it all be a waste of time So he will be assessed first but needed to tell the owner we are assessing him because we have a place for him - didnt want to waste her time trying to make it really easy for her so she doesnt PTS just to be more convientient
  14. great idea im going to search on ebay and make some for the shelters around in vic!! i always wanted to know what i could do to help as i dont have much money i donate food when i can but thought there must be something else!! See what u started!! and they say one person cant do much to help!! u have started a phenomenon! hahaha
  15. WOW hahaha Is it bad for their skin?? i was always worried it would do damage? how long does it last?? i noticed ur grooming area is white!! i would have hung tarps everywhere hahaha i do love dying dogs but im not very good at it so i avoid it lol we have a couple of cavies that come in and they get their tails done in green and orange - pet este range so very solid and bright!! looks great but that about the skill range for me lol too many colours and hard areas and i get it everywhere... practice makes perfect i guess :S i also suck at bows hahaha any tips? sorry to hijack the thread :S
  16. Never thought of the sprays!! did it mark the goldens coat at all or washed out right away?? and is ur golden dark gold or a lighter colour?? sorry for the 20 questions but i have a few clients who really want to colour their dogs for special occasions but want a wash out colour and i am yet to find one that actually washes out! lol
  17. my cat was quoted 700 for cruciate surgery but after 2 weeks they had decided it was a partial tear and cause he was crated and rested so well he had healed really well himself and it was fine to just have some rimadyl injections and a bit more crateing and it came good... then he broke his hip... hahaha i swear million dollar cat hahaha I would make sure of the diagnoses first - ie that it is a ful rupture and not a sprain or partial tear as everyone else said otherwise it is alot of crazyness for something that might not have needed it... u could talk to ur vet about xrays and what not or go to another vet for a second opinion?? anyone on here in the same area who can reccomend a vet?? But i would say if its a full rupture then u should do the surgery - permanent damage is not good and very preventable. Good luck!
  18. pet este sell dog dye that is safe to use and also spectrum sell a safe dye as well im in vic so i dont know who would sell it up near you but i would go with one of those beacuse i know they are safe - always spot test though to make sure there is no allergies. hopes that helps a little sorry i couldnt do more
  19. i wouldnt do this if i didnt think he was a good dog - meaing i think his issues will be over come and we were only given a small amount of info we will be assessing the dog before anything further occurs, we are responsible. I know u will disagree but u dont know the dog and its temp so i think its unfair for u to all tell me to give up on him IMO. I do value everyones opinions on the matter and i have taken it into account and i wont be pursueing the dog further if he is unsuitable for rehomeing but until then i will keep trying And i missed a question earlier - he is desexed and vaccinated and vet check was clear not sure about heartworm testing or anything like that yet. Still waitning for more info
  20. no body in the class was able to - being students their parents said no, they have some friends or relos in mind though and they are all asking around like i am so we are working many angles, hopefully we can do something for him
  21. I think he isnt most likely not as bad as she thinks in regards to his aggression, he is a really sweet dog and at worst might need a little training work but i think he would come around - im not a trainer or behaviour specialist this is just my opinion Splitting hairs with the rest of the debates in this thread, but do you know the OP is a "fifteen year old"? Or was that assumption? Regards the "reported aggression" by the owner - I agree with Cosmolo. More needs to be found out in that respect. What the owner is describing as aggression might not be. Or it might have been somewhat heavily provoked. Or it might have been that she was purposely making things out to be worse than what they are. More information, carefully sought, is needed. My point is that like any other dog, this one deserves a chance, even if that's by saying "hold up a minute, can we look into this further?" As mentioned earlier - and i know Erny knows who i am!! i am not 15 yrs old i teach at this tafe... i am not a student!! LOL His teeth are bad and look to be leading to problems but he is NOT in pain and that was the VETS opinion not the tafe students - we are taught to not give a diagnoses but to refer to the vet clinic. The dog eats baones and kibble without trouble so he may be in some pain but APPEARS to be ok, i thin his teeth could wait a few weeks but i wouldnt like to leave it longer then that for fear of infections in his mouth. The owner is not thinking about her dog at all in this situation and i can say this till im blue in the face and i know we all have differeing opinions on what to do in this situation. So i will keep doing my thing and try for this little dog who really does deserve better. We are not vet nurses and we really do know the difference between cute dogs and animal welfare pls give me SOME credit, She was not guilted into changing her mind... she thought rehomeing would cost her money so never considered it - we only informed her of her options and she told us she was happy for us to look into it for her, we even entioned she could look into some shelters who can give money or cheaper surgery and she could keep the dog where he is but as mentioned earlier she doesnt really want the dog anymore... IMHO saying we guilted her into it and all the other things mentioned when u werent there to even hear what we said is a little unfair dont you agree?? We understand that the little guy may still be PTS but hey we can try u never know there might be the perfect home out there waiting for him but there might not... im still goign to try though I understand this is a tough issue that everyone will have different opinions about, really i just wanted to see if anyone had some ideas of how to help i didnt mean to cause a massive discussion on animal welfare LOL just wanted some help for the little guy, Thanks for all the input though to all i have some good ideas for the little man now to all who have PMed and offered help thank you so much and i will keep you all updated on Sampsons progress
  22. We asked and she said no she doesnt want him because the family dont really like him anyway - we thought maybe the tafe could fundraise a bit and do the surgery cheap. A lot of people would find this hard to understand. Please let us know how Sampson fares. Signing off before I get a warning. :D :D Thanks ill will have to look them up, will kepp u updated Wow, this is how I was feeling reading this. I mean, hell yes, it is sad... but I personally would never suggest someone just dump their dog at a pound. I have a fearful dog that wouldn't pass a temp test anywhere, despite the work I do and continue to do with her. I cannot imagine having to have her pts prematurely at all ever but I'd rather that than let her suffer her last days in the pound. Dont plan on dumping him, i want to find a permanent home or a foster home while we find him a permanent place to live I don't think it's professional either and for TAFE students to suggest that the owner surrender the dog or take it to a shelter is just as bad. I am a teacher not a student, u know the saying about assuming... We simply ran her through her options and asked her would she consider these options if we could make it work. I plan to have him assessed if he has somewhere to go, i wouldnt just give him to someone and say ur problem now and have him attack them! LOL. The dog is in great health and the vet was happy to put him under - there are alwasy risks though as we are all aware but other then his teeth he is in great condition - maybe a little over weight lol The owner is waiting to hear what we can plan she is happy to be rid of the dog any way possible and at the least expense to herself so rehomeing for her is the best option.
  23. He isn't bad with other dogs that i know of and his male aggression wasnt so bad the vet that handled him was a male and the little guy lives with males - whom i think may be the cause of his problems He is a good little guy in good health other then his teeth, i am trying not to have him in a pound but dont have anyone to take him RIGHT now, i know he will may turn out to be another little guy stuck in the ound but hey i can only try and to steal a quote from another thread - If i try and loose then i have done what i could but if i dont try at all i have already lost - sounded better in the other thread lol cant remember the wording hahaha But yeh basically i would rather try and fail then to just shug and accept that i can't do anything to help If everyone shrugged we wouldn't have our beloved dogs and cats we got at a shelter ETA: House training isnt so hard and he was in a very large cage all day and never had an accident he toileted outside when he was walked, so he has the basic down LOL
