well i dnt want to use a clicker... but i do use words like 'yes' so yeh i do mark behaviours and i use tug as a reward or method whatever u wanna call it im not into the technical side lol
-
bahha thankfully so far we havent destroyed anything but there is still PLENTY of time!! I thought i must be doing something wrong cause her brother and all my mates puppies are doing some things sooo much better nad jut fluked lead training and what not... but i shouldnt compare her... she hasnt had a single accident in the house or on the concrete ever!! so nah nah nah to everyone struggling with toilet training bahaha once i get the mouthing rules through to everyone we will get that under wraps
-
just not my style personal choice... i have enough stuff in my hands during training i dont need a clicker as well!! i have played with them at tafe nad with a mates dogs who are clicker trained and i do get the appeal but yeh pretty much just not my thing i would rather lure for show training and tug for obedience work

hahhaha a baby pap throwing tantrums!! i bet its frustratingly adorable!!! Dallas is good her training is going well she watches and stands for me like a trooper hehehe she doesnt do tricks yet lol thought best to let her get a good grip on her showing first then add tricks and what not
-
When i hold her mouth to make her care i would have to use all my strenth! it doesnt bother her if i hold really hard thats why i was going to consider the growling... oh well just keep trying!! Emery i have tried holding the food just out of reach but she just launches at it and her front feet never touch the ground hahaha Oh well just keep going on the walks and what not and fingers crossed next show training session is better!! Nekbet - the comment she si only 9 weeks old... i needed to hear that!! i think i panic and think omg am i the only one whos dog is like this? so its nice to know its normal hahaha i am alwasy being told ur doing this wrong and that wrong - everyone has an opinon and dont u know how cruel i am for crate training her!! so i guess i just needed to hear someone say its ok relax hahaha so thank u!!
-

ewww cheese in a can!!! bahaha Dallas isnt great at the kong yet hahah she gets distracted easily and peanut butter seems a bit too hard but honey is a hit but an outside or crate treat only as makes a HUGE mess bahaha she will get there!
-

hey everyone!! great advice thanks!! I was going to try the thumb under the tongue trick but i wasnt sure if it was a good idea so young - conflicting stories!! i shall implement it as of now! I have been doing lead work of a night just walking up and down the court with lureing and she si pretty good the worst bit is when she is trying to get to the other doggies.. but m hopeing if she gets the walking in a straight line bit right the rest will come with time I know she is young and im not pressuring her i just looked around and thought wow is it me or am i the only one whose dog is feral on lead?? maybe i shoudl fix that bahaha its hard cause i compare her to her litter brother who was also at show training but so tired he struggled to lift his feet so he looked like and angel in comparrison hahaha i always go to work and look at the dogs there and think if those families can raise a dog this well then so can i!! bahaha no probs hijacking thread either i learnt alot from the detour thanks i am lureing for stand and watch and sit and now walking on lead so i hope she will put it all together soon Thanks again!! SG - she used to scratch at her lead all the time so now she wears a collar all the time to help get used ot it but with the way her coat is growing she wont be able to wear it for long before it starts buggering up her coat bahaha bloody fluff ball!!
-
walking down the street she is perfect really its when there are dogs around that she goes feral... the distractions!! she jsut wants to play... whens ur next show??
-
i lure for stacking as she is a goldie she stands nicely that way, i struggle with the lureing on the move though hahaha i dont clicker train i have considered it but its not something i want to get into unfortunalty.. thanks for the advice :)

I need help!! Dallas is great with everything... except walking on a lead!! and as a show pup she needs to get over this hahaha I walk her everywhere off lead and she trots along great but on lead she is desperate to get to everything and chokes herself... being a 9 week old golden she can get very boisterous lol She is starting to mouth alot as well and ARGGHH!! doesnt work anymore so trying the yelping and walking away... i have to be very careful though seems all my hard work is undone by friends and family when i take my eyes off them their hands mysteriously end up in puppys mouth.. VERY AGRAVATING!! she is standing and sitting and does 'watch' - looking at bait in my hand and we are working on "FREEZE!" she thinks its great fun lol So lead wise.. we have tried holding bait next to me on the left and walking but as soon as the bait runs out she is off in the other direction and if i hold the food out of reach she LAUNCHES at my hand and takes my fingers off!! I have also been letting her say hi on lead and then baiting and calling her away and giving treats but after a while she thinks the bait and cuddles are boring and she really just wants to play... she gets VERY worked up and then wont do ANYTHING for me wont even sit or watch.. not even sniff bait... Any help would be great

Is chicken or beef stock ok for a puppy?? or is it too high in salt?

Puppy needs to learn to be in open spaces from a young age, let him free roam whilst u can watch him when u cant only allow him acess to areas u trust him in.. dont want him to toilet on the verandah dont let him out there... Dallas my goldie baby goes everywhere with me off lead... to get the mail - quiet street- and around the property at the kennels...however she is pretty feral on lead now hahaha workign on that now ;) When we are at work she is in her pen so has room to play and a spot to sleep (no paper down as she only wees on grass) then at morning tea time she come sout with us and free roams with the Leonberger and Greyhound, she never goes far... when we are at home she is generally whereever i am so if i go in she follows and i have puppy pen panels to stop her going ino rooms i dont want her in like the study and everyone elses bedrooms... she wanders around and plays with her toys... she is 9 weeks old atm and has not had one single accident... she only chews things she isnt meant to when im not watching and that is my fault LOL If she is at the door i let her out and she has toys and what not out there and she plays with my 16 yr old doggie Beau outside she free roams and we have moved things away if we dont want her to play wiht them like shoes etc... but i like her to be free as much as possible and of course she does need to be contained! She si crated at night as well... I think its important her her to learn to be independant... ok rambling hahahah
-
Agreed Swayd!! LOL i woudl pay triple for a time out area where it is quiet and we can take the doggies for a break!!!

i think i have seen u and this baby out and about lovely man he is!! all the best wiht him!! Gorgeous paps!! goodluck with the lil mites!!

Vaccination Schedule For Show Puppies... Any Different?
kirst_goldens replied to Merrirose's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree 100%... i recently was judged quite harshly by a fellow breeder/EXIB caus ei took my 8 and a half week old baby to a show and let her on the grass to lead train in the ring at lunch... i think A... i need her used to the hustle and bussle of the ring and surounds and B... she needs to be well socialised... she had one vacc at this point... but i was carefull and she had a great time! she will be at show training for her first class tomorrow night! at 9 weeks old!! -

woo hoo ill be checking in for pics!!! -
interesting topic! i agree wiht a few above it would depend on the degree of unsoundness or lack of type.. Goldens~ a dog with acceptable but less the perfect angulation may still be balanced and ok... but a dog with a yuk head is no good for me... their head is soo important - jaw for holding game and expression etc... i am seeing more and more light eyes as well which is GROSS!! hrmm... interesting lol love reading everyones replies - most make more sence then mine hahaha
