  1. Wow, Great job Ollie!!! My pit got over weight (almost 2 years ago). I had broken my shoulder and fractured my neck and couldn't walk her for ages. The kids were feeding the dogs so of course everything was overdone and lots of treats...LOL I thought it would be so hard to get her back into shape. She has a heart condtion so the weight wasn't good and she also could not walk too far in one go (with muzzle on) or in the heat. For some reason it seems to be so much easier for the dogs than it is for us... Make sure you keep us posted..it is so good to see the 'winner' stories!!!
  2. I don't allow anyone to feed or give treats to my dogs. Especially strangers. I don't know why anyone would let their dogs approach strangers for treats/food. Let alone harrass them!
  3. Actually if you go read a few of the other threads you will see there is quite a bit of discussion about irresponsible people walking dogs offlead. Not only the worry and fear it causes to others but the risk ok of unwanted aggression and harm to any dog involved, let alone the dogs themselves being harmed if something was to happen. I don't care if they were pits, staffies or pomeranians. It is not only illegal to have them offleash in onleash areas it is downright dangerous and irresponsible. OP..No matter what anyone says about stereotyping these days, just about anything can be perceived as stereotypical. The amount of threads (everywhere) that keep mentioning 'bogans' and their dogs (or similar) is way beyond this thread. You can hardly describe someone (to explain your viewpoint) without offending one stereotype or another. Fact is offleash is no good and something there are many many threads and complaints about. Almost time for me to go walk my lot, no doubt we will pass our usual line of offleash accidents waiting to happen.
  4. A bit OT but will be quick. My son and I were walking our 3 girls. Pit, AmStaff and GSDxRotty. We came to a bend and a guy (much like you describe) stopped, looking behind him began whistling and calling to a dog. This guy was pretty big, muscular, bald, tatted, mean looking (just the way I like them). We stopped and waited for him to get his dog, which we couldn't see due to a fence. He bends, clips and starts walking again,,,with the teeniest, tiny, fluffiest cross (which was strutting it's stuff). It had on a pink harness with glitter on it and matching pink leash with bling.. Might be reverse stereotyping in my case but my heart just sunk!!!
  5. hahahaha yeah! If he was buying legal drugs he would have had a shirt on....
  6. It doesn't matter what breed of dogs they are,,, No matter where we walk there is someone with a dog offleash and it doesn't bother them if it is a street, park or main road area.
  7. UPDATE on the lady with DA dog we bumped into 3 nights ago. We bumped into them again last night. Her dog was off leash once again. We stopped to allow her to get her dog onlead, then we backtracked down the path to allow her to keep walking and turn the way she usually does. She was right on a bend in the footpath that runs between a house fence and safty fencing so we couldn't see her once we backtracked. We waited and I took out my phone prepared to take photo's of her dog if it carried on again or got away from her. Just as she rounded the corner and seen me with my phone she turned and took off running in the other direction. I wasn't sure if she had kept running or just gone back behind the corner, so we just waited. A minute later a lady walking came round the corner so I asked her if the lady/dog were still there. Lady says "no, she was running down the hill" I asked lady if the dog had a muzzle on. Lady says "No, she was holding one, but it wasn't on the dog" So, this lady with dog obviously HAS a muzzle for her dog, I gather she knows her dog needs one OR after her big runaway last night I started thinking maybe her dog has been DD listed and she by law required to have it on her dog. I think when I had my phone out she thought I was ringing Rangers/Police, which makes me think she KNOWS she will be in trouble. Anyway, this lady has a muzzle so she must know she needs it. She seems to know she will be in trouble if Rangers/Police are called and YET she still walks her dog offleash (in onleash only area), without a muzzle, knowing her dog is DA and she will abuse people who say anything about it. ON a better note. We bumped into another couple walking a 10month old staffy boy. He was a little charmer (the dog not the man) Our 2yo AmStaff was quite smitten with him and was quite a show off. LOL They seemed like 'real' doggy people. They were not scared of my pit and let her meet their little boy, who was still being a little charmer. THEN shock of shocks,,,,,my GSDX who has DA issues wanted to meet this charming little man. I explained to them she had some issues but their little man was all up for saying "hello" and my GSDX seemed really relaxed and was being so well behaved so we carefully let them meet. My GSDX showed no issues at all. She was certainly on her best behaviour, so that is another step forward for her!!! WWWoooo HHoooo. Thank gawd for all the sensible responsible doggy owners in the world!!!!
  8. Oh Bonnie and Naomi, It was golden!!! Was even funnier later on when his mates came over and my 5yo went on to tell them ALL about it, doing all the actions and sound effects and EVERYTHING!!! She was running in a cirlce waving her hands above her head screaming and because everyone was laughing at her, it became her favourite story to tell everyone. She even started showing everyone her jar of maggots as proof of her story,,,,hahahahahahaha
  9. EEEWWWW, hahahahaha My ex had a really weak stomach. We lived on a block of land behind the chillers (place were people sold wild pigs/kangaroos that they had shot) sometimes if the chillers were full or if the pigs were too small, instead of taking them home, the people would throw them over the fence (into my side yard!!!) My (at the time) 5yo daughter was really busy down the back one day so I called out and asked her what she was doing. She had a jar and told me she was collecting 'bugs'. It was common for her so I thought nothing of it until she came waltzing in with half a jar of maggots.. I told my hubby to go and see what was there. Watching him out the window I knew something was wrong when he leant over the small (hip high) wire strand fence and vomited. Smiling to myself, knowing I should have checked I kept watching thinking it served him right for being a butt head earlier. He was holding the wire to balance himself as he lent over and heaved again when he lost his footing. The wire gave way under him and he basically somersaulted over the fence...LOL not only did he land in his own vomit but right in the guts of a fly blown pig that had been dumped sometime in the middle of the night. Ha ha, if that wasn't funny enough, he was so disgusted he jumped up running and began ripping of his clothes yelling for me to grab the hose. It was quite a sight seeing this big grown man squealing like a little girl, running around naked, kicking and screaming. AAAHHHH, one of my fondest memories...
  10. oh oh oh, Had to tell you that I had my own maggot issue last night. A really gross one that people should not even own up to... The day before Xmas my meat supplier had large meaty bones on special so I bought a few bags (some to freeze) I came home with the shopping and gave my inside girls their share of bones and pushed the bag aside telling my 20yo to take them outside for the GSDX. I packed away the shopping then went back downtown to get last minute buys. I came home packed more stuff away, brought in the washing. Folded it up and left it on the kitchen table for the kids to grab theirs and pack it away. When I began cooking tea my 20yo sons pile was still on the table so I pushed it to the side, up against the curtains. Now we don't use the kitchen table much. It is usually full of school bags, work eskys, folding up and odds/ends. I only use the front part with everything else being pushed to the back near the curtains. A few days later there was a smell in the kitchen. I got the kids to empty the bins and sprayed the bin cupboard with Glenn 20 and all was fine. A few days later the smell was back. Did the bins, sprayed and all was good. The next morning it was smelly again,,,so out with the bins, cleaned in all the cupboards/fridge looking for something off, then clean dog bowls and surrounds. Sprayed and everything was good. This continued until last night. Again I was trying to find the source of the smell when I noticed it got worse when the wind blew. Thinking it might be something dead outside the window I pulled back the curtains to look outside and to my HORROR, there is the bag of dog bones from the day before Xmas!!!! The curtains had blown over and covered them and when my son finally went to take them out he thought I had already done it as he couldn't see them. Then I had pushed his folding up over, which inturn had pinned the curtains to the wall, stopping them from blowing and uncovering the bag of bones. The bag was literally wriggling ON MY KITCHEN TABLE!!!!!!!! The smell was horrendous and there wasn't a stitch of meat left on anything. The bones were naked... Needless to say everything from clothes to bags to curtains and eskies have all been scrubbed, the table cleaned off, washed and is now being sanded back and revarnished. Thank gawd I didn't have anyone over for coffee and pull back the curtains to let the breeze in!!!
  11. If my pit wants something NOW she barks. If I ignore her she growls and acts all tough, shaking her head and growling/barking. We usually all start laughing at her, as she will go person to person trying to get a reaction. When noone reacts she gives up and asks properly, by sitting infront of me and putting her paw in my lap while I run through her list of words. When she hears what she wants she barks and runs off in that direction. The AmStaff just sits near what she wants and whinges. When you ask her if that is what she wants she begs. Looks so cute/odd now she is getting big. The GSDX (outside) will bang her metal bowl on the step to get attention. She does it for everything. Food, water, if she is hurt, lonely, bored. Really great at 4am!!! One night I went out and my son forgot to feed her. She sure let me know when I got home...
  12. I was in a similar position a while ago and no amount of talking seemed to beat the 'other' amount of talking my freind was getting from other people. Instead I collected (online) as many stories of puppy farms, youtube vids, etc and sat my freind down to read and watch. She (like all of us do I guess) was crying at some of the vids and pics of poor abused/neglected pups and dogs. Then I simply asked her did she want to keep places like that open by helping line their pockets with money. Now she is hell bent on showing other friends and talking to them about what is going on. Most people have no clue. Seeing is believing.
  13. Hi leighw, I almost seen the same thing in Queanbeyan a few weeks ago. People who walk an aggressive (DA only I think) GSD were walking passed my house when another couple who own a JRTx (that is never ever onleash and just as aggressive) were walking by. The JRTx raced at the GSD barking and growling and the people with GSD turned to walk in the other direction and crossed the road but the JRTx just kept running in at the GSD trying to snap at it. I ended up walking out and yelling to the people with the JRTx to "keep it on a lead like the law states they have to." The JRTx was ignoring it's owners but pulled it's head in when I yelled. Once I noticed I yelled at it again and it ran back to owners who picked it up. The lady owner yelled back and told me to shut up, so I just said "well I'm calling the police now" They took off and by then GSD was safely down the road but I was so scared it was going to turn out bad at one point. The people with the GSD have been really trying hard and doing a great job. He looks great and his behaviour has improved since I first seen them walking a few months ago. (I think he is only young, maybe around 2yo to 3yo) I would hate to see something happen to him because the idiot JRTx owners are always walking offlead. (they don't even have a lead with them or a collar on the JRTx to grab him).
  14. I think a few years ago I met the BIGGEST IDIOT ever!!! My GSDX has issues.. We have all the Dangerous Dog Warning signs on our gate/fences (because of the restrcition laws) and our yard is secure. A few years ago my GSDX was going beserk and looking out the window I notice 3 young boys (7yo-9yo) IN my front yard, kicking my fence and going "pssssss, pssssss" to a staffy pup, which is also going beserk at the fence. I yelled out and told them to get out of my yard. Next thing I know my dog is at the driveway going beserk. (I live on a corner so the kids just walked around the house and up my driveway and were kicking my gate) I yelled out again and they took off. This began happening almost everyday, with the kids running down the hill giggling each time I yelled. One Sunday I was outside and heard the usual noise so I walked round the house and called out to the kids. They came over and I asked about their dog. They said her name was Zoey and about 4 months old. I asked if they loved Zoey and they said Yes. I said "well if you keep teasing that dog and it gets out, it will kill Zoey." One kid sticks his chest out and replies "I'll kick it in the head" I said "It will bite you too, it hates kids" The next day they returned as usual!!!!!!! When I went out they stood on the path and yelled out to me ""Our dad says if your dog gets out and attacks us,,,he will have it shot and we will sue you and get heaps of money"" YEAH!!!! That's a quick way to get a few dollars...Let your kids provoke a large dog, get attacked and sue the owners!!!!! BARGAIN!!!! I had to phone the Rangers who came and took a statement then went to visit the parents of the children. The Rangers told them IF the kids were continually teasing and provoking my dog and something DID happen, they would have NO right to sue and in fact I could actually have them charged and sue them. At which point the father says ""The kids don't mean to go in the yard, the pup drags them in there" The Ranger then told them if the children could NOT keep control of the dog, then the children (by law) were NOT allowed to walk the dog, without supervision. The father said he and mother didn't have time to walk the dog and as they had no yard it needed to be walked each day. Ranger told them to either make time, move and get a yard, or get rid of the dog, but under NO circumstances could they allow the children to walk the dog anymore. Soon after the father (with kids in tow) began walking past my house throwing rocks over the fence at my dog, yelling out abuses and telling me next time he'd throw a bait over the fence, not a rock. I put up with it for 3 days and called the police. Haven't seen the father, kids or dog since. How can a parent allow thier children to be in danger and only think of the $$$$ they may get in a law suit???
  15. I was going to post something similar this morning. Last night my son and I were walking with the 3 girls. 6yo GSDxRotty, 6yo pit and 2yo AmStaff. We rounded a corner and there is a well dressed lady with a long haired black type of dog who is offleash. (This is right out the front of the Aged Care Home) The lady in long skirt, sandals, rose coloured pink blouse and her hair in a bun starts to call her dog, which has it's head down, body streamlined and is stalking towards us. She sounded panicky so we walked onto the road and stopped, allowing her to get her dog to sit while she put in onleash. She gets it onleash and is trying to tell it to sit but it is just ignoring her, so we stay on the road. She starts walking and like a bomb this dog just goes ballistic. (I have seen some bad dogs but this thing was totally wild and going beserk) It just started jumping and pulling towards us, snarling and growling, thrashing about on it's leash and she was screaming at it. It began dragging her onto the grass and she was rolling the leash round and round her hands trying to hold onto it. I stopped to wait for my son to get infront of me (away from the dog) as I was worried if it got off it would go for him and his 2yo AmStaff. (who was tilting her head side to side watching the dog like she was confused) When my son was clear, quite shocked by the dogs behaviour I said (calmly) "Wow, he really needs a muzzle" Lady says "What!" I say "he really needs a muzzle, you've lost control of him and if he gets away from you he's going to do damage" Lady yells " oh, F-off c^%t" I just stood there blinking then said "it's illegal for you to have him out like that" Lady yells "F-off you c^&t" I said "no honest. He is aggressive and should be kept onleash and muzzled" Lady (who now has the dog standing on his back legs by holding his choker chain at shoulder height and is strangling the poor dog, and is managing to drag him away) screams "F-Off or I'll let him go you c^&t" I just stood there looking like a dimwit as she dragged him away still screaming out a long line of abuse and vulgar language. Now I was talking really calm and was more shocked that 1) she would have a dog like that offleash (infront of an aged care home!?!?) 2)she didn't already have a muzzle on him 3)she was in a skirt and sandals while walking him, as she was tripping in her skirt and slipping in her sandals. (you would think knowing how he behaved she would have dressed appropriately) 4) just the way the dog was acting. 5) the language that came out of a well dressed well-to-do looking woman (especially infront of my son and the people at the aged care home) 6) her threatening to let the dog go at us. I was really quite dumbfounded at her reaction. We began quite a way apart and the dog had dragged her to within 10 feet of us. She had no control and NO IDEA what to do with him. It wasn't until she was far enough away for me to turn my back on her and continue our walk that I realised there were my girls (GSDX and Pit) sitting quietly on each side of me watching the whole affair. My pit (who is quite a snob) was looking off in the distance like she was disgusted and the GSDX was wiggling her bum, smiling at me and whimpering (probably hoping to get permission to attack) I have never seen this lady/dog before so not sure if they are here on holidays, just moved in or maybe lives up another area and was extending her walks. I certainly hope I never see her again. I should have remembered my phone. Usually if we have problems with a dog who's owner is an 'idiot' I take photo's or a quick clip if possible and report it. This time I was just too dumbfounded!!!
  16. Hi, Is this the same dog you posted about a few days ago for attacking your other dog?? If so I would be keeping away from other dogs and muzzled around people until you can get help. Really there is no way to tell if he is doing it because he is nervous, scared or maybe just does it because he wants to and has been able to get away with it before. To me, dogs like this are more dangerous than others, as you never really know and they are unpredictable.
  17. I have to agree with you. So many other issues could begin and make things worse. A hungry dog isn't a happy dog. I guess people who really know what they are doing (as far as training etc) could manage this without side effects but I doubt it would be a good thing for everyone to try without supervision. I couldn't do it..LOL My outside dog has a metal feed dish and when she is hungry she holds it in her mouth and bangs it on the cement back step. She will also do it if she needs water etc. I used to have an abused dog that wasn't interested in anything much. The light had just left his heart BUT if you sqeaked a sqeaky toy, he was in heaven!!! If you gave it to him he would race around with it in his mouth sqeaking it. (we took it off him at night or at 4 am you would wake to "squeak, squeak, squeak")
  18. Noooo,,LOL I am supposed to be working BUT I did run a search to bring up any horror stories for maggots..LOL In 1824 Yorkshire a man running a boarding school for boys was found guilty of treating them badly. (amongst all the other stuff I won't list) it was found that for Sunday tea, pot skimmings were served, in which there was vermin. The boys were offered 1 penny for each maggot they found in the food and removed..(etc goes the story) hahahaha....one way to bribe the kids into not dobbing!!! Hope noone is having soup tonight.....
  19. Cool, That's really good to know. When I mentioned do you think it would pass BA and TT I wasn't hoping you would go making guess ID's of the dog. Just if it didn't pass BA, if it seemed like it would pass TT. (hard I know, but some dogs you can look at and think NO WAY straight off the bat) I guess I have just seen soo many people begin the trip to save a dog that was supposed to be rbx,, then run out of money or not be able to cope (with the rules),,and poor dog ends up back where it began. Alot of wonderful dedicated people out there but sadly just not enough money on call to be able to keep up. Not saying you would do that, just it does happen. Usually poor dog cops it worse second time round. Looks like Christmas Dog will be having a Happy New Year after all!!!!
  20. LMAO at all the people now googling "fly sex" Wonder who was bored enough, that taking photo's of flies mating seemed like a good idea!!!
  21. I barred all people from bringing their dogs to my house. I had too many friends who would just bring them, then expect me to watch them and clean up after them. Most of the dogs/pups had no manners and would harrass my dogs and kids, who ended up locked in their rooms. (voluntarily) If we were going to be outside or something I wouldn't mind so much,,but inside is just no go for me.
  22. Anyway, RnB, Do you think the dog would pass BA and TT?? If it doesn't would you be prepared/organised to take it on anyway??? It is a pretty big job and can make life hard sometimes. We used to go camping all the time before BSL but no more camping or holidays now. Cannot even take them to dog-friendly caravan parks or anything. Not even allowed to move or even visit overnight (in other Council areas) unless you get prior permission from Councils etc. I cannot even go visit my daughter in Wagga and take the dog with me. (made it hard when my granddaughter was born) Cannot even let the dog out in your own backyard. It's not just about cages, muzzles and warning collars, it is actually alot bigger than that. Half the stuff isn't even included on the NOI. It is up to the owner to check stuff out on their own beforehand. Pretty sad really..it can really deter people from wanting to home one knowing all the 'crap' that's involved.
  23. I wasn't really replying to the 'question asked' I was replying (quoting) your reply where you stated If a dog comes in and is chipped as a Pitbull X anything and there has been no breed assessment perfomed on the dog by an authorised Breed Assessor then it is not a RD technically as the law is written. Unless chipped as a purebreed a dog is NOT a RD until an NOI has been issued and a breed assessment and temperant assessment (if required) is performed by a authorised breed and temperament assessor. Which is really incorrect. Any RBx that is microchipped as such would have already been issued with an NOI, and if the owners did not do BA and TT (or if the dog failed) it is Restrcited. (technically as the law is written) No Council is under ANY requirements (now) to reissue a second (or third) NOI (for microchipped rbx). When BSL came in if someone could prove they didn't receive their NOI, they could apply for another one to be issued and an extenstion but the Council is under no obligation to issue one now. That is if Council has done their job. There are plenty out there chipped as PB or ABPT crosses that have not had an NOI issued yet. The problem isn't the Councils. As far as I know they did do their job. The problems arise from OWNERS moving etc and not updating their dogs microchip/registration details. The Councils only had to provide NOI's to the addresses listed and are under NO obligation NOW to reissue for those that moved and didn't update their details. Honestly, claiming "I didn't know" now is a bit too late. Those people who have microchipped RB/crosses know about BSL and if they failed to step up and contact Council to update or ask for NOI's, then it might be too late. Part of being a "responsible' dog owner is keeping your details updated and following the laws concerning your dog. No point trying to blame the Councils for irresponsible people. If anything I said wasn't the question asked, then I guess you didn't reply to the question either, as I was replying to comments you had made, which were unclear and misleading. I guess the part "a dog is NOT a RD until an NOI has been issued and a breed assessment and temperant assessment (if required) is performed by a authorised breed and temperament assessor. " is the bit that I am manily talking about. It implies that until a NOI is issued AND BA and TT are done, the dog is not classed as restricted, which is just wrong. Fact is ONCE the NOI is issued your dog IS classed as restricted UNTIL you prove otherwise. If you do not follow through with BA and TT OR pass BA and TT then the dog remains restricted.
  24. LOL I'm not sure what it is but our 2yo AmStaff does it all the time, for all known visitors. Neither of our older dogs have ever done it and the 2yo hasn't been around other dogs, even as a pup, to have been able to pick it up off another dog. The minute she hears the door she runs to hallway to see who it is, then runs like mad to get a bone (or bit of toast, anything) then races back proudly showing her prize. Usually she holds it up for you to take off her,,,but just for a second,,then she takes it back and prances around with it like it is gold plated or something. It is kind of cute but I thought she might grow out of it. Maybe not!! LOL
  25. LOL, My grandson always says to me "nannas when you were little and had to chase dinosaurs for dinner,,,did you have Playstation??"" My girl goes on and off her food, but she has a heart problem. Summer is always worse for her as she isn't really interested in food (unless it is something she isn't supposed to eat) Making sure she gets enough to drink is the main thing. We have Lectade so if she isn't eating or drinking enough we can atleast prevent her from dehydrating, until she kicks back in or goes to the vets. Hope your Mandela gets it all sorted out soon. It is so sad watching them when they aren't well. When the kids were learning to ride bikes, with mouths wide open squealing my husband used to tell them to "shut your fly trap before you swallow one" Was worse when they went up your nose though, then you looked like a real jacka$$ snorting and picking and trying to blow them out (with or without a tissue)
