Byron Wants To Know! What Breed Am I?
Nannas replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in General Dog Discussion
He is cute,,but noone here can tell you anything....no matter how good they think they are... Pay up for the bitza test or do the DNA test,,,if you REALLY want to know.... Other than that he is a terrier type... -
Why? A dog can be declared as a "Dangerous Dog" if it rushes someone or threatens them. It's too late for me to go looking up the wording of the law, but I recall the interpretation could be something along the lines of "the dog jumped up on a person; this frightened the person; the person ergo felt threatened". This is the problem with the law : it is too open to interpretation by each person who reads it - people ASSUME "Dangerous Dog" means the dog has shown real/genuine signs of being dangerous. That's not necessarily the case. Sorry, I admit I don't know what is required to declare a dog as dangerous, I assumed it would be relevant to the term. My reasoning is that I walk two Staffy's every night and coming across this type of dog could be detrimental to all of us. I also see kids out playing as well. I figure a classified dangerous dog should be well secured, if it is not it is a danger to kids and others, if the owners have let it escape once they may again. I'm afraid Erny is right on this one, a dog does not have to do very much at all to be declared dangerous, they do not have to be "aggressive", they do not have to be "dog agressive", the "rush" may be in excitement rather than agression and there is no distinction between the two and if the person or animal involved is frightened then its a "rush" and is enough to declare a dog dangerous. The "council" will declare the dog "dangerous" so that if something in the future was to happen their arse is covered.......the dog may not be genuinely aggressive or dangerous. Before a council declares a dog dangerous they should have to do a temperament test of the dog.....or at least meet the dog in question themselves!! Then VIC must suck,,because in NSW your dog must be UNDER CONTROL at all times,,,,,,which means NO rushing... Think of it from the rushee points of view... A dog they do not know rushes at them. Train your dogs ya idiots...your dog should NEVER EVER rush,,get close enough,,,or bother ANYONE.... You are the dog owner,,,you own the dog,,,,,what do you thinkl gives you rights for your dog to annoy people???? No wonder VIC laws are so far behing..... Forget the dog,,lets do the owner..... I think you are all fooked if ya think your dog rushing people is OK.... Running at,,harrassing or anything....it is still fooked up.... Your DOG is your dog,,,,,not everyone likes dogs,,,,CONTROL your dog,,,,how can your dog rush someone if it is under control?????? Really??????

All you have to do is sit your dog down for the test,,,,,,same as they put pitbullsx's thorugh...if at anytime you dog passes it is NOT declared Dangerous.....but a pit is there whether we like it or not....A pitbull never had the chance to be declared NOT dangerous,,,,just the crosses... NOW people with roaming unregistered dogs are going through what I have been in,,, worse for over 5 years.. IF you really do NOT support BSL make it apparent in ALL your posts,,,,,because people facing BSL have been facing WORSE for years....too bad if others have to face it now...

I got two purebreds at that price. One now even has a Ch. in front of his name. What were they?? Some breeds in some areas no one cares for.. I wouldn't pay crap for anything under my knee (hates small dogs) Do as you will,,take as you please,,,for as cheap as you can get it.... This isn't about that They are Deerhounds, so they would not be "under your knee", I'm sure. I didn't get them because they were cheap. I got them because I offered a good home to two lovely dogs. Honestly,,,I probably would NOT have taken them.. I like bulldog breeds,,(so shoot me,,someone has to save them) Actually my pit and AmStaff were both free,,,apart from vet bills.....About $5,000 for the pit and $1,000 for AmStaff... I would not have spent the money on a deerhound though.... So sue me....I have choices and I make them,,,,,,my dogs do as I want and are great dogs,,,I have owned the breeds before and thought I would take a chance on spending the money... IF they were offered as purebreeds I would have been asked for atleast $1,000 more,,,,,,,no way....I got them off death row,,,,as they are,,,and paid out what I had to.... You tell me Elfin,,,what I would pay for another pure pitbull now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What would my AmStaff cost from a breeder????????? I have been offered so much for a pup from my pit you have no idea... You all sit there in dreamland thinking about BSL but you really have no idea....

We have no idea if the dog had ever bit before,,,,,or why the dog bit.. The DAD is as much to blame as the mum....stop blaming the mum... My dogs got in a fight afew years ago,,,while trying to break them up my GSDX tried biting one son,,,,but not the other.. BOTH sons were trying to stop my GSDX she was the instigator...my pit just got stuck defending herself... Noone can ever know how or why.. The son my GSDX tried to bite was her best mate,,,who saved her,,,,(my other son had nothing to do with her) Dogs do bite,,,,for whatever reason,,,,we should NOT leave them alone with kids,,no matter how long you have had them....but it is hardly just the mums fault,,,,The DAD wasn't doing anything...he could have stayed and watched the kids with dog... Short and long,,is they didn't know anything about dogs,,,,,that is 75% of the people out there.... Should be no flame throwing,,,should be working out how to get the message out////

There is NO WAY we will get media on our side when most attacks are from unregistered pits/x's. Those are the people we need to rid society of.....the idiots with unregistered pits...and still breeding. I had a electrician here last week asked me if I wanted to cross my AmStaff with a pit bitch.. Told him my Amstaff was a bitch and if his mates pit DOG was smaller than my amstff,,,he could piss off.... Got lots of offers to cross with my pit bitch.... APBT mating is still going on,,,shame that most of it is crosses....but it won't end BSL... Stats is all that will end BSL...there are just over 2,500 registered pits/crosses in NSW but how may pits and crosses are there really??? Some people say as many as 5,000..... We need to make people be responsible....for owning a pit....BSL isn't the answer... From NSW Dog Bits sites,,,,,pits had LESS than 3 bites in each 3 months.... Didn't even account for 3 bites in any 3 month reporting.. month this year!!!!!!!!!!!! It is just a joke
-
AmStaff may get confused are are really nothing to do with BSL
-
Actually,,,the person who posted about lost/stolen bull terriers...that you all supported,,,I think is advertising in our pet shop... Not many purebred bull terriers here,,,,let alone advertising... So you help and support that chit????

Rubbish. I bought my gorgeous girl from an interstate breeder, she has a lovely pedigree, parents are both titled (dad is a Gr Ch), lots of relatives with performance and conformation titles both here and overseas. Including her plane ticket, she cost me LESS than $650. That is around half the price of some of the labrador x poodles I've seen advertised. She was not "going cheap" because the breeder couldn't get rid of the pups....I chose her from a photo the day after she was born (I was particular about colour, markings and gender) and the entire litter of 9 puppies was sold by the time they were a month old. The breeder I bought her from has been fabulous, each and every time I have a query, she responds within hours, sometimes minutes. She adores the photos I send her of my lovely girl and it's so nice to have someone appreciate her like I do. A few weeks abo I looked at some of the DOL puppy listings. Some of the breeders have the prices in their ads. Maltese puppies for $1000. Tibetan Terrier pups for $600-$800. Poodles (little ones, can't recall if they were toy or miniature) $950. These breeds have similar "looks" to the Maltipoopenschnoodledoodles being pumped out by puppy farmers and sold at astronomical prices through pet stores and over the internet. But they pay it for cross bred mutts. So why wouldn't they pay it for purebred puppies with a pedigree from a registered and ethical breeder? YOu kidding,,I got my pure pit free,,,,,as BSL came in,,, I got my AmStaff free,,,as they thought she had parvo... I also got a "pure" rotty,,,,,that stood more than the max for standards.....seen alot on here too, IF you wanna talk PUREBREEDS......then stop crossing... Who here has a pure registered rotty?? Standing more than 52cm at the shoulders??? That is NOT pure it got that way through crossing.....be real breeders.... You cross breed to make things better,,,you just think you do it better than everyone else...........
-
A purebred dog costs less than $2.00 per week over a 10 year lifespan on the purchase price. It can be difficult to find $1000 to buy the dog initially, but less than $2.00 per week I think is cheap for quality potential when looking at costs this way??? OK,,,one at a time here,, I have had cross breds that in 15years have had NOTHING wrong with them ever....and were given to me with 2 bags of food. You cannot get a purebred at that price.... Sorry
-
Just get out of bed and let your dog know it is wrong.... For fooks sake your dog isn't angel glass.... If your dog snaps,,,,get out of bed and correct your dog.. I have a pit and she knows her place....it is not rocket science..... Maybe go back to square one...obviously your dog has no idea.... Time to make your dog realise she is acting incorrectly,,,,(no trainer needed) you think packs call a trainer in all the time???? Get out of bed and correct your dog,,,,not too hard....rouse,,put her outside,,,who cares....your choice
-
Purebreeds cost a fortune....esp from areas where no breeder is available.. Some people just want a dog...for a pet,,,,,not for show or to better others.. Saying that,,,I will NOT crossbreed any of my dogs... 1 is already cross and is quite mad...crossing her may lead to worse mad pups. Although I do not agree with all the breeder statements,,,I do agree that cross breeding needs lots of thought and background.. Geesh,,,Rotty's should by old standards stand 52cm's at the shoulders,,,,,but we have ""Purebreeds"" in here standing almost twice that...They got that through cross breeding... Cross breeding goes on alot in all breeds.... Find a fault in a standard and breeders will cross breed to fix it,,,,,to make pups better or fix the problem. Crossing in your own backyard is way different....they are NOT to fix a problem..they are to sell pups. BUT people wanting a family pet should NOT have to pay almosy $1,000 for it... Two minds here.....lol

You have a TRUE APBT?? You know what they look like??? hahahaha,,,a true APBT can look like anything,,,,much like a true rotty or terrier.. Can you tell me what a true ABPT looks like....I need to know
-
From his head and stance I would say APBT...
-
My pit holds her ears up,,,,,not cropped.. My AmStaff (at 2yo) still lets her ears flop around... I would never crop,,,but ears have nothing to do with it.... Some dogs hold their ears like some people hold their pinkies up... You can see my dogs have big ears,,,,so does one of my sons.....
-
Good to see more people with an opinion on what an APBT should look like... Nice to know the RSPCA and Councils have backup...
-
You got it Amika
-
I would say black,,,but looks the same as my girl in photo's and she is dark choc brown,,, In sun you can see she is brown,,,but in pics etc she looks black... My gal is SorrellxJeep line..people keep telling me I cannot have a black pit!!! I am not up on enuff to say he is even a pit,,,I'm not that much into them... To me,,,from my gal,,I think he would be dark choc brown,,,,photo's always turn out black colour....esp with shiney dogs
-
One part of me says YES you are being a sook,,,,,but the other part says,,,I won't leave my dogs in a kennel either... Not much help....just letting you know it is not just you!!!
-
Gosh,, I know a guy was devout Catholic,,,,in his aged years was diagnosed as schitzo,,,,was a great guy but rambled alot at times.. Church kicked him...didn't want to know him,,,,,was too much trouble... If a church will do that to people,,,,they will do it to animals...
-
I wonder what they are going to do when people stop buying the puppies? Will they keep ALL the spares or dump them?? Maybe place with just anyone, who will dump them later anyway? I would be writing and stressing the compulsory microchipping BEFORE they sell the puppies. Maybe if the puppies end up being not such a profit then they'll start baking more cookies.. You might find they sell them on jumble/fete days also.. I have seen this before. By people from the church,,, the church wasn't breeding them,,,just allowed it's members to bring pups and sell them at fetes etc. (mainly crosses from unwanted litters)

Survey For Dangerous Dog Legislation On Vic Dpi
Nannas replied to gundoglover's topic in General Dog Discussion
At the moment, BSL is "regulation". Regulations don't have to go through parliament to be passed in, so it is easier for the Government to make these rules without the hurdles imposed by parliamentary rule. Conversley, it is easier (note that I did not say "easy") to get regulations changed. Moreso than it is to have legislation changed. Would someone please correct me if my understanding is wrong (or confirm if my understanding is correct)? IOW - Government have seen fit to implement BSL as a part of the Feral and Nuisance Animals Act (I think this Act has a new name now), and not JUST as a regulation. Wonder why they would do that, seeing as it is already proven to have failed ??? No. I don't "wonder" nothing any more . They aren't changing BSL or really even asking about it. They are upping the Dangerous Dog Legislation,,,that covers ALL dogs declared or deemed Dangerous,,,regardless of breed. Even though there was a question about Restricted Breeds,,,,the questions were about ALL breeds... I prefer DD legislation to BSL. -

Agreed. What if the Ranger is just having a bad day or life crisis and is in one hell of a bad mood?? What if the dog belongs to someone the Rangers etc don't like?? -
I tried it with 2 dogs and ended upon my a$$... One of my dogs is OK,,,but she gets puffed and keeps stopping, laying down, then getting up and running again. The other runs like she's playing armies. She ducks and dodges, side steps, pulls, stops, races off. No running for me...
