  1. also as far as the food goes, raw chicken mince from your local poultry shop & cut up raw chicken carcass is great for nutrition, as well as adding things like yoghurt or cottage cheese, some vegies occasionally for variety & also some fish like macarel or sardines. As far as the monetary costs go I hope your friend can figure something out, could she find a vet that may offer a payment plan?
  2. Yes I definitely want to be getting something that can be easily maneuvered & isn't a truck. But something that is preferably 4WD because I do love offroad driving, I realise I'm probably getting way ahead of myself... but this IS research ;) The outlander does seem nice too, just depends how much I can save!
  3. this seems to be the car in the other thread (link above) that most people either have or prefer, although the mitsubishi outlander seems good too. I'm probably getting way ahead of myself here I am just so excited (& a bit nervous) that I'm going to FINALLY have a job! & I'm going to work my little ass off to keep it!
  4. Thanks guys for the tips & links!! Probably getting a little over excited ;) but I start a new job at the end of the month & if I can stick it out I will be earning a good amount of money. I am hoping to save for a car first as my little lazer which as done me soooo well is getting on a bit & I would like a new car. I do have 2 staggies though so was hoping to find a car with a nice amount of room in the back but also maybe a 4WD as myself & the dogs do love off-road driving :D
  5. I remember seeing a little while back a thread asking for suggestions for the best cars for dogs. I don't know how to find it though & just curious to have a look Thanks
  6. only other alternatives are the grey snap traps (more humane than the metal ones & glue traps) or the blue/yellow square box type traps which catch the mice live & you'll have to dispose of it :S
  7. Great pics! Was great seeing him go to such a good home with a little brother to run amok with :D
  8. I went looking around once & found lots of breed specific items on cafepress I think it was...
  9. I used to work on a sheep farm with Poll Dorsets, Dorset Horns, White Suffolks & a couple of merinos. We would go out shooting each week - foxes & rabbits, esp around lambing time & yes we did have some lamb fatalities from foxes, but very few & they would never eat that much. Not once did I ever see a ewe be taken down by a fox & if the whole throat has been ripped out that definitely doesn't sound fox-like to me. There are a lot of foxes around at the moment though. Also as far as Alpacas go I used to work at a horrible petting zoo type place & we often had peacocks/hens etc. killed by foxes & the Alpaca didn't help one bit so it leaves me skeptical about that. If I was to ever have sheep in a large capacity I would be out regularly spotlighting & have a dog like a Maremma to protect the stock. I hope you find out what is going on & soon!
  10. I think it looks a perfect weight. I see SOOOO many overweight dogs that apparently it's become the 'norm' now to own a dog that looks like a whale. People now probably think working dogs look "emaciated". I don't know what the solution is but poor dogs
  11. I see you have mentioned that there are a few places dogs aren't allowed. I have always wanted to do the 'outback' trip but many people have advised I don't take dogs as some NP lands & Indigenous lands don't allow dogs. Would be a good idea to research this thoroughly if you haven't already. One book that I absolutely love is called 'Outback Mongrel' & the author/photographer takes his dogs on an outback journey which is AMAZING but I do remember reading that at a few places he had special permission to allow him to take his dogs. Have fun!!
  12. Don't think so but we travel down from Mannum sometimes. Also the park is pretty easy to find
  13. If I have to go to albury I always go this way, through Ouyen & Hay. There's a great little Motel in Hay in the main st (can't remember the name) but the people were lovely, had a little courtyard that the dogs could run in & then they slept in my car, even though the people offered for them to sleep out the back of their house at the side of the motel There's a good park at lameroo, also at Murray Bridge. There is also quite a large stop point just before the left turn near Balranald, it's just off the highway & it's a good piddle stop.
  14. I think there's a few funny ones of a GR eating with 'human' hands. It's one very well trained dog and along the lines of the 'talking' dog, I love the ones of the black cat 'talking' & Simons Cat are always great!
  15. ;) and old dogs do learn fine! I taught my 12yr old CCR x BC boy to say 'please' with his paw, guess which hand the treat was in with placing his paw on the right hand & play dead after me saying 'bang bang' all within a week & using treats, although I'm still young . He has now passed on but it just goes to show you can teach old dogs new tricks
  16. Good on you! :D I'm always the "party pooper" too when people start saying things like that but I don't care :D
  17. what a joke, but not surprising... PP were selling Mastiff/Deerhound pups in one of their city stores not long ago. Yeah great mix of breeds, esp to be selling to people with suburban backyards :D
  18. Oh dear, I used to own a black CCR x BC who was black with white feet, he had a wonderful life & lived for 12.5yrs but I must have some bad luck coming my way soon I think it's a bit of nonsense. Lots of people say black dogs are harder to rehome but I've known quite a few that have flown out the door & they look soo shiny! But some people don't like the fact that some turn grey around the muzzle faster & it's more noticeable.
  19. Yeah interesting concept that one. I saw it too and wondered WTF they were on. Our new neighbours have a large female Lab x mastiff and a small male (Pom?) mix, both entire. Apparently it was fine to leave them together when she was on heat though because the male is "too small" to get to the female. Errrrrrr really? I'll be expecting some interesting looking pups next month... :D
  20. Some idiot in the local paper last weekend was selling.... 'Purple Heelers'!!!! One parent was a Red 'Heeler' & the other a Blue 'Heeler'. They obviously believe that like paint > blue + red = Purple!?! So unbelievable but I am sure there will be people who have fallen for it. Bit sad really :D
  21. Mine is very similar it says 'A home without a dog is just a house'. Except mine should say 'a dog or TWO' And I know this is DOL so of course there will be people out there wanting to turn this 'funny' thread into a debate but seriously people, keep it to posting funny signs you've seen or have!
