  1. Sounds fun! Is there a link to the site? I work Sunday but depending on what time it starts might be able to go...
  2. This. And exactly Bartok, who decides if they're reputable or not?
  3. That's the issue. Some of the groups when I looked last weren't reputable. All groups/shelters that want support need to be totally transparent etc. and shelters need to be open to the public. Anyway the public & supporters deserve to have honest, responsible rescue organisations to support.
  4. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8400629/kayaker-rescues-dog-after-fatal-car-crash A kayaker fishing in the Gulf of Mexico has saved the life of a traumatised dog who swam out to sea after its owner was killed in a hit-run incident. The kayaker, who had a camera attached to the front of his boat, posted the footage online and later made the link between the dog he found and the nearby car hit-run that killed 53-year-old Donna Chen. Drunk driver Blake Talman, 22, ran into Ms Chen on Sunday morning (AEDT) while she was out running with her dog Barney in Sarasota, Florida. Police believe Talman was trying to flee from the scene of another crash when he lost control of his Nissan Altima, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports. The car crashed into Ms Chen, Barney and hit street signs, a telephone line and some wooden poles. YouTube user midget2000x, who was the kayaker who pulled Barney from the ocean, said he found the dog more than a kilometre from the scene. "Our guess is that he was so freaked out and traumatized that he just wanted to get as far away from there as possible," he wrote. "And when he ran out of land, he took to the water." He said Barney seemed distressed and was shivering and bleeding. Barney has since been returned to Ms Chen's husband and two children. Video is shown in attached link.
  5. x2, no point in discussing this point any further. People will believe what they want. ;)
  6. I love the one with the black cat when the human says he's brought a new puppy home
  7. I saw him too & he reminded me so much of my Auntys beautiful WHFT 'Jack' who was adopted from a pound too. I really hope it's good news for this boy!!
  8. yep it's a stupid stupid stupid idea. I agree, how will they know who is reputable or not? Many people have had many different experiences with groups. Oh what I have seen . But I think it is poitnless. And... it's facebook. People will do & believe what they want.
  9. I thought what is referred to as a staghound (in Australia) was a deerhound x grey?? Many people now though cross the finer staghounds with bull breeds for pig hunting etc. There is no such thing as a purebred 'Staghound' they are crosses between Irish Wolfhounds, Scottish Deerhounds, Greyhounds & some other breeds. You only have to look on some of the country NSW pound sites to see.
  10. no advice but I was bitten by a feral cat a couple of years back, where I was bitten still itches even now. It is all healed but every now & then will be very itchy, same goes for where the neighbours dog bit me, it took ages to heal & was very itchy & even now after about 4 months it can be itchy. No idea why though!
  11. Maloney has gone on trial to a wonderful new home!! I really hope it works out for him! We met at the dog park yesterday & they said they weren't going to make any decisions on the day, by the time they left they asked if I could come and do a yard check then I get there & they ask if he can stay They're going on holidays but plan to take him with them & their other dog. Hopefully they will post some pictures on the facebook page soon
  12. This doesn't suprise me, especially when most are crossed with more solid type dogs for 'pig hunting' & then treated like crap. Very sad.
  13. I lost my beautiful old boy Kaspa in January He was a Curly Coated Retriever x Border Collie & my most special dog. I couldn't have asked for a more loyal & better friend. I too didn't post his passing on here but most knew. I knew the time would come when I would have to make the decision for him after he had a 'funny turn' 6mths before he passed. It was the worst day of my life but his passing was quick & peaceful. My world will never be the same. No one to share my morning toast with. I will miss your soft woolly coat to snuggle into, & your comfort you gave in sad times or your 'roo roooing' - your morning greeting. You were my protector & took a piece of my heart with you my nooni boy, love you & miss you forever June 7th 1998 - January 10 2011
  14. This is mine > http://sendables.jibjab.com/view/yQ0wutmAnlymXZgz?cmpid=jj_fb_self_holidays Bit dissapointed I didn't have a more suitable pic of Elsa but anyway.
  15. I think it IS very important to remember that not everyone involved in rescue believes it. Sadly though there are some in rescue who think that you're terrible because you breed and some in the show/breeding world who think its terrible if you rescue. Can't please everyone so in the end you just have to please yourself. This.
  16. Bruno I meant whilst travelling, not actually in a paddock working.
  17. After witnessing a dog fall off the back of a ute once & be still attached to a rope & dragged along I would never ever not have a dog tied to a short tether or secured in some way. Even working dogs (& yes I have worked on a farm) It was absolutely horrible & there's no excuse not to have any dog safely secured, even if they're loose they can still do major damage if they fall off or even be killed. You never know when/if the dog might come off so best to have them secured.
  18. I used one once but found the water pressure was pretty crap so really didn't do much at all. I wouldn't use one again.
  19. Hi all, as the title suggests, is carprieve a painkiller? Or is it another type of drug used for arthritis?
  20. Whenever people post somewhere that they've found a dog I tell them to ring every council around there area but even then it's still hard because a ranger I know works in a town along a major highway & the amount of times he's had a dog brought in from places sometimes 4hrs away is incredible! He does usually try to get in touch with the council area the dog came from but sometimes you just don't know where the dog has come from. I just don't know what people think when they find dogs
  21. It is interesting, I find many rescue or animal related orgs/groups who go on about not taking dogs to pounds, RSPCA or AWL because to quote 'it will just get put down' so many have a fear of contacting anyone when they find a dog & either want to keep it or hand it straight to rescue. If my dog was loose & found I would want the council contacted & my dog taken to the pound to be scanned etc. These other organisations/councils are just doing their job, we need to do they right thing by the dogs owners & notify the council. In most instances the council will collect but there have been times when I have notified the councils in the area with as much detail about the dog as possible, even passed on a photo so if anyone phones them it can be returned & that's been fine. But please people don't create hype so people are fearful about doing the right thing & if you find a dog please contact your council & take the dog to be scanned.
