  1. Hi all, if you are in SA and free this Sunday 12th February come to the Dog Wellness Expo. You can find more information about it here: www.dogwellnessexpo.com.au or on their facebook page. I am really looking forward to it and increasing my knowledge to help my scruffers be the happiest and healthiest they can be!
  2. Hi there, has anyone on this forum in Australia or overseas ever experienced a large breed dog with Cerebellar Hypoplaysia? Is there any supportive treatments that have helped? The diagnosis isn't formal as it would need to be done with an MRI but the whole litter was affected. We are doing everything we can within budget limitations, physio, acupuncture and massage. I have also been in touch with human therapists too. Including one man who has made the videos on youtube "Cerebellar Hypoplaysia Rehabilitation - Holly's Story" and "Holly's Story - The Sequel". He had some really interesting stuff to say but not relating to pets. It is not easy to watch but he is a super happy pup with a zest for life. We are realistic about his future but also want to try and help him improve his movement because he loves life and deserves a chance, it is a shame so little is known about it in pets, or from what I've found so far on canines.
  3. I myself have seen the site and it is disturbing. The issue with EPA is the dumping of horses in a creek line upstream and the contamination issues. And I also believe the authority with thoroughbreds in SA have issues with the dumping. It had clearly been happening over a long period of time and to horses of varying ages. I am sure the people responsible will be found and dealt with accordingly. I personally do not agree with the horse or greyhound racing industries and the amount of "waste & excess products".
  4. That's near me :D will keep my eyes peeled at the local pounds. Also how about Adelaide All Breed Dog Rescue or Australian Working Dog Rescue or just keeping an eye out on PetRescue? I dropped off a beautiful female Kelpie x girl about 6-7mths old to AWDRI just this past week, this is her > http://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/200460 says application pending but always worth a shot :)
  5. Not really informative but a good read > Great Working Dog Stories - Angela Goode & Mike Hayes. Compilation of stories from across Australia. & Outback Mongrel - David Darcy. Excellent photographs of outback Australia & his dogs, makes me really want to do a similar trip one day!
  6. Not sure if this has been posted before or not but I love it, dog looks like he's having loads of fun! :) http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=9d7_1344547665&fb_source=message
  7. If you're not on the scruffer page I thought I'd share this pic of Maloney I just received. Doing what hounds do best! :D After a rocky start he couldn't have found a better home! I just love seeing pics of the dogs I've rehomed :D
  8. Very very sorry to hear about Cookie, but glad she knew love, warmth & a full belly before she passed. There are some truly sick people out there. I once found a lamb that had been shot through the neck & been left laying in a paddock for 3 days becoming maggot infested before I found her, what sickos shoot a lamb??!! She improved lots in the time I had her & drank her bottle with gusto but sadly also had to be pts about a week later in similar circumstances, at least she knew love. I've also come across a young roo that was shot in the head but left to hop around for 3 weeks before being humanely euthanased. If people are going to kill animals there are far more humane ways of doing it! Anyway, thank you for doing what you did for her & giving her a loving home before she left this world. RIP Cookie
  9. I noticed in the video she would try to move her back legs forward when you were pushing her forward which is great! Just wondered have you thought about making her a little sling of some kind for her to be upright & maybe so she can use her back legs more? Just a thought anyway, may or may not work/be a good idea. Hope she continues to improve!
  10. just a video I saw a while ago, I found the dietary part quite interesting... Hoping for the best for Cookie.
  11. with spinal issues it often takes time esp if there's bruising, physio definitely helps. I've done that with a stud sheep before, it was left up to me as the silly thing wouldn't get up so I would get it up 3 times a day at least & walk it around, it eventually recovered & went on to produce many more lambs :) if she's happy just give it a little time. I'm hoping for the best!
  12. Thanks guys have checked out all of these sites & found some other great ones. Keep 'em coming! :)
  13. Hi all just posting this here in the hope people can share links etc. for finding educational material for school children relating to dog ownership, responsible pet ownership, dog behaviour etc. etc. Would appreciate any pictures, posters, links etc. Thank you! :)
