  3. I'd be crossing the road and avoiding her. her reaction was way over the top . Who carry's a metal pole ? weird ..... even if i didn't know that this person was scared of dogs I'd still cross the road for the reason shes carrying a metal pole .
  4. Poor Boof boy Lets hope they catch the guy and make an example of him . How can people be so cruel and thoughtless . Poor boofy boy fingers crossed he makes a full recovery and finds a loving home . When they do catch the guy they maybe able to reuse the cement blocks and chain ! i could think of a couple of good uses for them !
  5. I am so shocked that so much emphasis is put on about a dogs colour that is listed as a acceptable colour in the breed standard. I have a blue and white pied girl who has been our best friend and companion for 9 years now , she was purchased as a companion, purchased because she was the right puppy for us and not based on colour . She is desexed and does not have any health problems . She is our angel and we wouldn't swap her for the world . To state that dogs of this undesired colour are "vermin " and imply that they are less of a dog because of it , is just wrong . I'm very disappointed! However i don't agree with the amounts they are charging for a Blue as it is dead obvious they are breeding for money and not to better the breed.
  6. All these pictures of comfy crates makes me want to go to sleep !
  7. My dogs getting out is one of my worst nightmares as one of them is blind . I make sure that every morning before i go to work when im doing my poo rounds and saying my hellos etc that i do a run of fences and gates and make sure everything is how it should be - cause you just never know what may happen .
  8. uuugggh at my old house we had a dog living next door that never received one bit of attention or exercise It was a blue heeler and bored out of it's brain . The only time the dog got to go for a walk was when they carelessly left a gate open and he would then roam the streets . He barked continuously every day for hrs on end ,night time morning you name it he barked it was a nightmare ! I swear that my dogs were as frustrated as i was . The owner didn't seem to care she never tried to stop it never tried to fix it , the whole time we lived there which was 5 years . Some people should not be allowed to have animals . My dogs are never allowed to bark excessively as soon as they start its investigated as usually something or someone near the house .
  9. He sure does theres nothing like a stafford grin to make you smile !!!! hes such an enthusiastic worker with everything he just loves to work !, Thank you for help . I'll let you know how it all goes !
  10. I can take it from the side from him when hes on lead and not part of a full retrieval .But as soon as i do a full retrieval and hes coming in to present he drops it . I think your right though , i think it may be best to do lots of on lead heel work holding the dumbbell sitting and then moving in front of him for him to give i suppose if i maintain this i can then progress to a puppy recall type exercise and eventually have him running towards me sit and present Thanks
  11. I have tried doing this too which works, i can get him to sit stand heel never dropping the dumbbell, but as soon as he is in front of me reaching distance to dumbbell, he drops it
  12. thanks for your suggestions guys , I was thinking that it may be a case of taking it back to basics , have looked at the Shirley chong method , ill give this a try it seems to be a tried and trusted method by DOLers . its not a case that he doesn't enjoy dumbbell it's a case of finding the right way to teach it .it's like a big puzzle !
  13. I am having trouble teaching my staffordshire bull terrier Dumbell retrieval . He waits , fetches and holds the dumbell lovely with minimal play , grabs it correctly absolutely loves the dumbell to bits but upon presentation sits in front of me and then drops it . Now i think this may have evolved from puppy retrieval play (before i was even remotely interested in trialing ) but has now reared its ugly head . Does anyone have any ideas or methods to get him to not drop it . I have tried re enforcing the whole "hold it " stage which he has no problem with if he is already sitting or standing and the dumbell is placed in his mouth. I have also tried sitting a little distance in front of him calling but he still continues to drop it . Any advice would be greatly appreciated .
  14. I think councils just become slack with the whole trying to find the owner thing . I have had so many issues with our local council with dog registration . One year i got a knock on my door from the animal control officer telling me they had my dog at the pound , they were a bit confused when i advised them that she was actually sitting at the back door . Turns out the new years registration numbers had not updated on their computer system properly and was picking up my dogs registration from the year before ! The second lot of trouble we had was when we moved house and my female staffordshire bull terrier did not adjust to the move so well and was quite anxious if we left the house , our address and phone numbers were updated with council for the dog registration and updated with AAR as soon as we moved . we went away overnight and got a call the next morning from council saying they had picked her up and she was at the council pound, turns out this time after speaking to one of the lady's from council who attends our dog club that they had a huge amount of trouble trying to contact us as could not find any contact details for us they ended up getting it from a building application ?????? ..... perhaps if they had of scanned her for a microchip and updated our address and phone numbers in the first place maybe they would have saved them selves some time .... makes me so mad . i knew i paid a ridiculous amount of rego for a reason ?????
  15. Well done :D , its so rewarding when they learn something new -makes all the frustration worth it doesnt it ?!! 6 minutes is a huge accomplishment ! keep up the good work ! ;)
  16. I get very nervous , and people can always tell because my face has a tendency to go quite red , during my test my mouth gets extremely dry so by the time i have finished i feel like I've run a marathon race !!!! lol ! ;) My nerves are getting better the more i trial and im sure yours will too . Bisart Dobes is right (some great advice!) at the end of the day there's nothing more satisfying then spending good quality time with your dog and nothing quite rewarding as working as a team ! Goodluck !!!! :D , make sure you let us know how you go !
  17. What a beautiful girl , she really does love to work !! I wish my Rottweiler had Lexi's attention span
