Rescue Lumping Breederswith Byb And Pet Shops
efowler replied to Kavik's topic in General Dog Discussion
That add is just horrible!!! As a rescue we always recommend people to go and buy from a registered, responsible breeder or adopt. My mum is a registered breeder of Rhodesian ridgebacks and JRTs. And I hope to one day show a pedigree dog myself. I have often been criticized for this but I don't mind they are just extremists. -
I use one in Wagga called 'Wet Dreams' lol I always rinse n scrub with the disinfectant first. I've also spoken too the owner n seen him do it after nearly every wash. I've used many public showers at showgrounds when competing with horses n would probably prefer the dog wash over them LOL

Wagga animal rescue gets alot of staggy/wolfy. We have really nice dog ATM named fergie on our website. Transport to VIC is quite easily organised too. -
Haha that's gold! I'm a serious competition enterer so I can relate LOl

We did a santa photos fundraiser on the wknd for our rescue. Loved seeing all the dogs reactions. Most of the little dogs looks terrified but always sat still n posed properly. Some dogs were too hyperactive or excited to even notice him. Some were very fearful. Every single Staffy LOVED Santa n jumped all over him. I'll post some pics of my Staffy soon, she would just chill out with Santa everytime there was a break lol

By law (well at least in NSW) it is illegal to take or even hold onto a stray. It's a pretty big fine too. The owners will look at pounds first thing, that's if they r looking. Has she called pounds? Would hate for her to get into trouble for trying to do the right thing.

Yep we have had to open up many rescue dog n cats only to find out it's been done, very frustrating! It would b great if tattooing when desexing was common practice.

Has anyone seen this show before? Quite a good show, the lady that runs the rescue seems quite knowledgeable and realistic. I think they have parolees volunteer there. Not show but because I missed the intro bit.

Temperoary Care For Old Kelpie And A Cat Needed
efowler replied to efowler's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Yes, I'll add something more on to my original donation. I can't speak more highly of those folk who run the kennels. I agree Fernleigh Rd Kennels are GREAT!! They do so much for rescue. I saw them at 6am yesterday meeting pets2u with animals n then yesterday afternoon dropping and picking up animals from vets. Going today to take some photos for AWDRI so might check in on these two. -
My ex best friend who helped foster n rescue when she lived with me for a year went out n got a free kitten as soon as she moves out saying she rescued it as otherwise they would go to the pound. Felt like the biggest slap in the face to me n my rescue as if I can't even change the ppl closet too me how can we expect to change others opinions n actions.

Wow they look awesome! Will definitely look at ordering one. Have u thought about getting sponsors to cover the calendar costs so then all proceeds will b profit. We are doing our first calendar for next year and got 12 sponsors at $100 each which means we can buy 300 copies straight away n all there sales will b profit. We had some companies want to sponsor the whole thing so will up our price for the next time we do it. Just a suggestion

wow, that's late for a kitten. Some breeds of cat are capable of reproducing at 4 months and most responsible breeders have pets desexed at around 10-11 weeks for rehoming at 12 weeks. Are they recommending 6 months for the cats benefit, or because they don't have the skills to desex a 10 week old kitten? Yes that is late for a kitten. We desex all our rescue kittens at 10 weeks. They can be responsibly done at minimum of 1kg or 8 weeks by an experienced vet. I would never recommend leaving a cat until 6 months because most of the dumped females with litters we get arent even 6 months old. There are numerous benefits to early desexing of cats! Dogs on the otherhand are different. But saying that as a rescue we desex everything before it leaves our care. For our pups we wait until they have definete adoptions then desex, usually 10-12 weeks. We have done hundreds and hundreds and not had one problem, and most often we are in contact with adoptive owners as the pups develop.

One of my foster carers who adopted a cat from us months ago has asked me this question today and I really have no idea. I saw on Bondi Vet a few months ago someon got a xbred dog tested to see if it was a pitbull coz if it was they would put it down even though it was a lovely dog n played really well with her son...anyway Has anyone ever had there pet DNA tested to determine its breed? If so, where and how much, etc? Thanks

Temperoary Care For Old Kelpie And A Cat Needed
efowler replied to efowler's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Thanks for your help everything. And Nina thanks for the photos. I could possibly find care for the cat(after speaking to the nun, etc. I have been burnt in the past!) Would be great if we can speak to the church/nun and maybe get some donations. I will give Julie a call tomoz and see if they have spoken to her. Sad situation as he obviously wants to keep them. -
I am posting for a friend so only know the retold story for further details please contact Julie on 0427419122. She has been contacted by a Sister (nun) as an inmate at Junee (near Wagga) Jail has been boarding his 2 animals and now ran out of money for longterm care and needs somewhere for them to go urgently and they will need care until around september. He has a sick, dying mother and is not all there intellectually. He is in for driving with a suspended license. Hopeing the church can pay for some more boarding or some food if he goes someone. I have seen posts like this before so just wanted to know which groups organisations help out with these kinds of situations. Obviously rescues may not be able to help due to rescuing other very urgent deserving animals and all rescources need to go to them. But if anyone can help or know of a group please contact Julie or reply here and I can pass the msg along. Thanks
