Any News On Ned Please?
efowler replied to grumpette's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Just an update on Ned. He is doing great at the kennels and assessed by numerous experienced dog people now. We think he has found his perfect home with GS Lover and member of GS Vic Club. We are still in process of organising so will update again when finalised. Thankyou to everyone for your donations and concerns. Hopefully Ned can now live his remaining years in a great home. :) -

Any News On Ned Please?

Yes sorry didn't know if I should start another thread or not. I picked Ned up at about lunchtime and he travelled very well. He is currently staying at Fernliegh Rd Kennels in Wagga. Karen and Max who run it are very experienced dog people so will settle him in and update me. I will visit him tomorrow to start some assessments. GS Club have been in contact and will help along the process. We may be able to locate his breeder and there is another local breeder who may assist with assessments. Boarding is only a temporary option and we will all wok together for whatever is best for Ned. -
Dogs In Pounds - Statistics
efowler replied to Stefie's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Yes in NSW it is compulsory for pounds/shetlers to report to the DLG. They do have some publicly availble on their website otherwise you just email them and they will forward you a spreadsheet with all the information you require. Most years they do alot of statistics themselves and trends, etc. These documents are on there website. If you get stuck just email me ([email protected]). I am doing my honours on cat euthanasia rates in NSW pounds and DLG have been very cooperative! -
A Most Disgusting Conversation Overheard
efowler replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
A show friend with an intellectually handicapped son was annoyed at his brother the other night at dinner and said to him if you don't stop it you are going to get re-homed! Priceless. Haha We do alot of cat rescue and regularly see feral cats with no real chance of rehab or rehoming. So my partner regularly calls me an unrehomeable cat because I'm neurotic and no-one else can handle it lol -

Rescue Group For Lambs/sheep?
efowler replied to ShadesOfGrey's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Wagga Animal Rescue often takes lambs that are dumped. I raised one from day old that was dumped in deposit pen at pound n we had another one last month. We have a few foater carers that are vet students with family farms they can live there lives out on. -
I am from Port so can post on my FB tomorrow. I've been to the pound in port which is run by RSPCA they are very good so hopefully he goes there. Otherwise maybe some posters there and the RSPCA shelter.

Hi Guys, Just wanted to let everyone know for the next 3-4 weeks we are having a break from rescuing more animals. Please respect this decision, it has been a hard one to make and it is upsetting to hear or be pressured about more animals we cant take in. Basically this time is our uni holidays and our rescue is made up of almost entirely Animal and Vet Science Students, so majority of our carers may be going away for some of this time. Not to mention a number of other issues we are currently dealing with. We still have over 70 animals in care with a large majority being puppies or adult cats. Our priority is to rehome these animals first before accepting anymore. I will be away from this Sunday in Cambodia for 3 weeks, I will only be contactable by email so if you need me please email [email protected] Otherwise you can still call either of our coordinators Simone or Tegan (details on the website). Thanks :)

Very strange!! If you call them and it isn't a scam let me know as I'm sure many rescue's would help to rehome pups. I am a massive frenchie fan!

I don't know anything about this situation but I do know from recent honours surveys that councils can refuse the release of any animal to rescue or adoption. One thing I noted when asking if councils worked with rescues was that they were worried as rescues aren't legislated or controlled. Council is responsible for dangerous and nuisance animals. Some councils have also had very bad experiences with rescues so have implemented similar bans.

Yep no problem!! It's not due until October. It keeps getting bigger and more complex. I have majority of data collected from pounds and DLG. I love doing it for my own interest anyway. Might PM you and can email u lit review/proposal and different things. :) Awesome :D I'll keep the on you to get it finished in time  Haha ok great I'll PM you when finally back in Wagga.

Yes I agree Alkhe opening hours and the location are very impounded. Also the name...seems simple, but pound or dog pound has very negative connotations. Shelter I believe leads ppl to think about adoption, rescue, better facilities. Some from me that would make pounds/shelters operate better in general is the attitude and qualifications of the staff. Often there is one or a few main employees who are catalyst for change. They need genuine animal loving people with qualifications. Also the pound/shelter should be the first point of call for pet owners in the community they should be able to advise on barking, escaping, etc and providing advice and options to prevent problems rather than handing out infringement notices.

Companion Animal Taskforce
efowler replied to efowler's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I thought it was posted on DOL just couldn't find it. They have asked our CSU Vet School in conjunction with uniSyd to make some comments. -
Im sure everyone has heard about the NSW Companion Animal Taskforce. The discussion paper is now available from the DLG website and an online feedback form. http://www.dlg.nsw.gov.au/dlg/dlghome/dlg_generalindex.asp?sectionid=1&areaindex=CATASK&documenttype=8&mi=9&ml=10 It is an interesting read, especially for me as my honours is in this area. But if you have an opinion in this area it would be beneficial to provide some feedback. Will also affect breeders too.
