Sorry to hear about your Loxy, Kirty. I don't want to get involved, as I don't have a major problem with it if they are desexed and rehomed responsibly. But I will add that even if the founder of the organisation was 23 that shouldn't matter! I am only 23, have been around animals my entire life, have been involved in rescue for 5 years, including running a rescue for the last 2 years. I have a Bachelor of Animal Science Honours, specialising in companion animal welfare and management and a graduate diploma, plus numerous courses. You would be surprised what the younger generation is capable of, 90% of our rescue organisation are under 25. :)

Hi All, Myself and another WAR carer will be in Albury this Thursday 21st Feb and decided to do a discounted microchipping day as have had alot of interest in the area. We will be at PetStock from 12-2pm. It will be $15 to the public and if anyone from rescue wants to bring animals it will be $10. We can come to houses after if need be but will be $20 unless over 4 animals. Please let anyone in the area know. :)

That is a great idea! Maybe something PetRescue could approach with places like Petbarn. One of our carers works at Petbarn and is regularly telling people where to look if they want to adopt.

Hi All, As we are closing down in the next 6 months, we are doing inventory on all our equipment and beginning to donate to other rescue. We bought a dog custome a few years ago to use as a mascot at our events, he is in excellent condition and a big hit with kids! We called him 'Digga the WAR dog' as he is dressed in camo and we ran a competition on our FB page for the name. But that is just a t-shirt we made for him, so you can easily make your own. Here are some photos of him: I would love to see him go to good use to promote responsible rescues and responsible pet ownership! We will post him if need be. Just wanted to update everyone on progress...We have officially stopped rescuing but not before overloading ourselves with lots and lots of kittens! It is so hard for our few main cat carers to say no to starving orphan kittens We now have 7 dogs in care and over 50 kittens. For the month of January all our kittens will be $150 which of course includes all vetwork (desexing,microchipping, vaccinating, etc, etc). So if you know of anyone looking for a kitten or maybe a beautiful adult cat, please send them our way. I will hopefully get some time in the next few weeks to give our website a makeover and provide links to other rescues in the area or those that rescue from this area. I will be mainitaining our phone and website for another year as a source of advice for the public.

Thank you everyone for your support, it is much appreciated. It has been a difficult decision but I'm sure you will see many of us around in the future. We will continue to support GRAS animals and try to get them adopted to public or to rescues. I have just graduated from a B Animal Science Hons so will aim to find a job in companion animal management and welfare. 10 year plan CEO of RSPCA and make some changes lol ;) so I'm sure ill continue to see you all :)

Dear foster carers, members, volunteers and supporters, It is with great sadness that I announce that Wagga Animal Rescue Inc. has made the unfortunate decision to close our organisation. This decision was discussed at length and alternatives to closing were explored in the past 12 months with no success. The decision to close Wagga Animal Rescue Inc. was voted upon unanimously yesterday the 12th of December, 2012. Our decision to close is based upon several key members leaving the Riverina in the coming months leaving no one to take on the responsibility of running this organisation. The majority of our committee and active foster carers are studying and/or working and also may not be in the area permanently. Running an organisation of this size requires a significant amount of time, effort, commitment and responsibility. As Wagga Animal Rescue is not for profit and our committee and carers are all working voluntarily it really is a lot to ask of anyone. We feel that our members, volunteers and foster carers will still be able to make significant contributions to other animal rescue organisations in the Riverina area so that animals are still being rescued and rehomed. This week will be the final week that we will rescue any animals giving us 6 months to rehome all animals in care and take steps towards closing our organisation. Wagga Animal Rescue as an organisation will officially end in June, 2013. Wagga Animal Rescue will be available until this date to offer advice to members of the community regarding their pets, assisting in private rehoming, promoting and fundraising for other reputable animal rescue organisations. Our phones, Facebook account and e-mails will be permanently monitored until the end of June 2013 so we can continue to promote rescued animals in Wagga and the Riverina area. All our equipment will be donated to reputable charity organisations or sold. Our excess funds will potentially be used to run free microchipping weekends within the Riverina. We will no longer be accepting significant monetary donations; however, any food, litter or toys are still very much appreciated as we have over 60 animals in care, many of these being young orphaned kittens. I would like to take this time to thank every single foster carer, adopter, volunteer, supporter, sponsor, business and admirers from afar. I still don't like that the rescue directory is in alphabetical order though. We are on page 9, the last page and have over 40 animals in care. Almost half of the rescues listed before us have none in care!

Still some problems with uploading photos. But our enquiries haven't stopped one but! We have had a lot of cute puppies in the past few weeks. I'm averaging 10-15 enquiries for each pup, either email from PR or phone. Adult dog enquiries slower though.

Oh no. Not the same owner of the Daschund from a few weeks ago? If you did get stuck we have some Aussie Bulldog Lovers in our rescue. Charlie the Daschund found the most perfect home too :)

We didn't get our calendar done this year but will have Christmas cards by end week. There is a calendar called Real men are kind to animals which raises money for Melbourne Animal Rescue and another one. Ill be looking at these ones now too :)

Yes I do. He is at MUP's tonight and my carer is getting him tomorrow. I was on my way to get him at 3pm today but had a tyre blow off and mess up my rims on my new car. So not a good day. But he is safe with WAR regardless :)

I've found a carer who loves Daschunds so ill call her first thing tomorrow to organise it :)

WAR could probably help if needed. We havent rescued/rehomed a daschund from wagga before and I know a few people who would be interested. You have my email if you need it :)

Glenfield Road Animal Shelter has their annual open day today! It was disappointing that there werent bigger crowds but generally I think it was a great success with all the stalls they had there. So to the rangers and WWCC!! I also think it is so great to see most the rescues come together for the day and appreciate eachother. Really really lovely to see and a great chance to catch up. There was CPR, RADAR, SMART, BFPR, BPAR, RSPCA Wagga and WAR :D

Tegan with WAR is passionate about Danes as well. So that could be a possibility if Great Dane rescue can't. :)

This year it actually did stop for a bit. For the last 2 months maybe more there has almost been a shortage of kittens lol in all wagga rescues and even others in NSW. It's been good as more adults (+6months) are being adopted.

Kitten season officially started now. This takes our total to 6 mums with young bubs plus one heavily pregnant at wagga pound that we will take. We have recruited a few new carers for them which is great though :)
