Grafton Shows- 7 Shows In 5 Days Canine Carnival
tommygirl replied to tommygirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Got the other half at home doing all the washing last minute as always!! Packing up the car tonight and will leave straight after work tomorrow arvo, arriving tomorrow night....then rise and shine for shows on Thursday! Safe drive to all! -
My boy King is defintley not 'King' like. If anything he should be called princess, cause he is a woos. We didnt name him though, we got him when he was 8 months old and his pedigree is 'King Chrome' so it kind of stuck. I dont think it really suits his personality though. Rogue, well we loved x-men movies/comics so we named her after one of the characters. Shes defintley a little fire-cracker thats for sure. Sushi- I just love Sushi and I thought it would make a cute name, but I dont know how much she can actually be like sushi lol. Her pedigree name we called her 'Poker Face' cause she has two black eye patches and it gives her a bit of a 'poker face'.

Pregnant Bitch Who Is Very Fussy With What She Eats.
tommygirl replied to oakeydoak1's topic in Breeders Community
My girl was fussy through-out her pregnancy last year. Wouldnt touch basically anything, but one thing she would eat was scrambled eggs. Once I figured out she would eat that, I would mix in some cheese to 'fatten' it up a bit. She was the same post-whelp would only eat her scrambled eggs and would only eat a small amount of kibble if there was tinned puppy food smoshed through it. After the first week was down she was still a bit fussy but getting back to normal. Now shes a guts again . -
Grafton Shows- 7 Shows In 5 Days Canine Carnival

Just bumping this back up- we are off on Wednesday (missing the Wednesday show), getting excited for road trip -
I have emailed them through their contact centre, so hopefully I will get a positive reply! That's the best news I've heard all day! I got an online quote of $90 from SC airport to Black Mountain, not bad but I expect it will be a bit mroe with the dogs and crates, but not $790 surely!! Thanks again for your help and to your friend No worries, let me know how it goes!
-
I just asked a friend (I live on the Sunny Coast) and she said she has flown in with pet into M'dore airport and Suncoast Cabs do pick ups with pets. You just have to book in advance. Did you try them?
-
Thanks for the reply... yeah I thought about that but I guess I wouldn't be able to tell the car hire place that its for the dogs!!! I would have to hire the car, drive to my parents place, take the car back with someone driving another car, then pick one up again the day before returning, etc. Its time consuming but doable and certainly cheaper than the only quote I have got back!!! Bit fiddly, but at almost $800 for the other alternative ...might be worth the hassle??
-
Could you just hire a bigger car for the day to get them from the airport to your parents and the day on return? Or do your parents have any friends or other family that will lend a car for the airport trip?
-
I must admit I used to be quite wary of them - although I love the look of the dog - because of a childhood experience and some terrible owners of one (again badly trained dog - not just because it was a Bull Terrier) but Boonie's (our lab) best friend down the dog park is a BT named Gary - Gary protected Boonie from a fight with a boxer when Boon was all of 3 or 4mths of age - ever since best mates. Absolutely lovely dog.

Haha tommygirl - wouldn't you just LOVE to turn around to those people and say: "are those your kids playing over there? God they're ugly..." on a ground hog day, I would love to say 'have you looked in the mirror lately?'. But I just do that in my head as I walk away lol.
-
totally know all about stereotypes with 3 Bull Terriers. I used to get mad, but now I just shake my head at how rude some people are- people often are fascinated by them and go 'oh wow, I havent seen one of these for a while' and then next sentence, 'god they are ugly though'. Hey I know they arent for everyone, but some people, especially strangers can be so blunt! But I often get compliments too from people who had Bullies in the past, or are fans of them and have changed quite a lot of peoples point of view on them, especially our next door neighbour. She had lived next door to bullies as a kid (now in her 50s) and was afraid of them as she had a bad experience with them, but now ours go over her house and are so sweet and gentle with her little jrt x that shes come around and will pat them and give them hugs. You have the right attitude in training your poodle up to be the best behaved your dog can be to prove them all wrong!

Sorry you had such a poor experience, I know how frustrating it can be. Vets arent cheap and I think you have a right to expect a service that makes you feel comfortable- both you and your dog. I can sympathize with the ear thing, one of mine had an ear infection and it took me a few times to get the vet to take a proper look and prescribe some ear drops to fix it up. I would suggest either writing a letter to complain or contact the practice manager/head vet at the clinic to let them know you weren't happy with the way the check up went. Hope Charlies ear feels better.

Vaccination Schedule For Show Puppies... Any Different?
tommygirl replied to Merrirose's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its a risk you take.. sometimes with a bad result. At least its usually more of an inconvenience than a danger to the pup. Yes, she seems to be all better now. I have shown my own as soon as possible in baby puppy with no problems, and would do it again... just pointing it out it does happen picking up stuff and the show we went to where she got it from was only a month or so ago now. -

ok my bad. I just added the weeks up again, and she was 14 weeks 3 days. I had her DOB wrong. sorry! Either way, she was up to date with vaccination and got kennel cough, and the only trip out of the house was to her first show. -
Vaccination Schedule For Show Puppies... Any Different?
tommygirl replied to Merrirose's topic in General Dog Discussion
No the pup must have been older, you cannot show a dog under 3 calendar months. 12 weeks is 3 months. It was the pups first show she was 12 weeks and 3 days. -
Lol, I had a similar fb argument on a garage sale page, someone was wanting to sell her 'spoodle' and went on to say he isnt desexed and would make "such cute puppies"...I did get a lot of people tell me to get a life, but I finally got my point across after saying (god knows how many times they kept deleting my posts) "I dont care what you call your cross bred mutt, but take out the part about him making puppies" Of course I did have a really nice photo of my purebred Golden in my profile pic lol Haha same, I had a display pic of me stacking my bully at a show. I don't care if people don't like it they need to be challenged on their un-educated belief systems sometimes! If those of us who know better don't pipe up everyone who reads it thinks that what they are saying is factual! It makes me see red when anyone writes adds saying 'would make cute puppies' or 'bitch for sale in heat would make cute puppies' :D

I got the new Toyota Rukus about 6 weeks ago and it's awesome! It's a small wagon but we love it. Low fuel costs, comfortable to drive, great ride height and lots of useful storage compartments. I got the one with leather interior and it's amazing how easier it is to keep clean, dog hair comes of easy and quick wipe down. Edit to add- Toyota have capped price service of only $130 for each service for 3 years. After owning to honda's this was a big bonus for me :D

It amazes me how people fall for these 'oodles' being actual breeds. I had an argument on Facebook the other day when a friend wrote she was getting a dog and didn't know what to get and people were writing suggestions and someone wrote get a 'Jug'...a jack Russell x pug and was saying it's a designer dog etc. I wrote saying I always thought a jug was something you hold liquids in and there is no such thing as a designer dog just cross-breeds with made up names. Didn't go down too well... Glad pup was re-united with the owners, even if it took a while!

I had a friend who had a 12 week old pup in her first show, and the pup picked up kennel cough, and now has had to been kept at home while it cleared up. This was only a month ago. -

What Do You Use To Organise Your Dog Stuff?
tommygirl replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow you guys are making me feel very disorganised... I have all groomer stuff/show stuff in my version of a tack box that sits in spare room (a big faux snakeskin make up case), with all the other 'showy' stuff, gazebo, chairs, table, crates etc. all goes back into one spot after getting out of car, but its more just in a pile in the spare room than an organised space... otherwise, leads and everyday stuff is on a big box on a shelf on the bookshelf closest to front door, and toys well when I find them I put them in this box too, but its quite common they are scattered around. some of them that have been outside stay outside, they are too ewwwies to come in the house. Paperwork is all at my office at work, because that is where I make all doggy related phone calls, do show entries etc as im there during business hours. Its all in a portable file, (those ones that look like a brief case and pop open) thats divided up into vaccinations, health tests, pedigrees, show entries, litter records, and any other bits and bobs that are breed related I want to keep. -

Two weeks till we hit the road, gotta start getting organized! -
I think I will give them a second chance now, and I do appeciated the offer of a refund, I was not expecting that at all, especially the part about refunding show fees (I didnt take this up as its only a small amount of money)... I have to board the dogs again in a month or so, and from the email I think that they will make an effort to not let anything happen again, but I will mention it when I check them in about what happened last time.

Just thought I would post for anyone that was following this thread...I got a response from kennels today:: ***** I am so sorry...Easter hit and I have been underground. Ok I did speak to the team and no one has any idea what happened or why. The girl who was on that weekend has been sick ever since..so I am not sure where to go from here except to apologize and say that I am really sorry. The dogs were in together so it not that another dog got to her. I know it is not my dog rooms as the wire is "safe". What could of happened is that whilst in the yard that she was possibly 'nosing' the fence. Not sure. I agree that it was not good enough that no one explained to you about what happened. I have spoken to all the staff about this not happening again. I would like to offer a full refund of the stay - and if it makes it any better a refund of the showing fees. If you like you can have the $ as a credit or I can deposit into your account. Moving forward I would like for you to send me an email the next time they are in with us so that I can do some "formal" process review to see what happened. Please do not take me NOT responding as a sign that I don't care..I do..Easter just got in the way. Please let me know if you are happy to receive a refund/credit. **** I feel a bit better to have got a decent response from them. I wasnt expecting them to offer a refund. Now I dont know what to think!
