Hi All, Well he saw a second vet with the same result and xrays show nothing either. Last night he went to bed lame but had eaten. This morning.................... 72hours post walking normally, UBU was alive!! He decided to find a bone buried in the back yard and bring it inside and leave reminants everywhere and decided that wash clothes work better in small pieces. Good to have the boy back.. But still no idea what happened!!

Hi All, I think this is the right area for this question. Our 13month very active Standard Schnazuer has all of a sudden gone lame in his rear leg. He was walking in a controlled manner on a footpath when he suddenly yelped and wouldn't move. A few more yelp's and look of help and he stood. He remained sore and in discomfort for 10mins or so. Off he was rushed to the vet where the cheeky thing suddenly wouldn't express any discomfort other than not using the leg. Push and prodding and no visible pain! The vet has suggested just quiet rest and continue to watch him. 48hours later and the leg is still not being used but he will stand on it if you lift his other leg without complaint. He is very quiet and not his active self including not eating. We are at a loss at what to do, other than waiting out time and heading back to the vet if nothing changes in the next few days. Any advice or anyone experienced this? Regards, A concerned parent.

This is our second standard and their intelligence is an absolute delight. Brings a smile to my face, even at 4am when he decided that my pillow was a good place to spend the rest of the night..... That lasted til about 4.01am. Unfortunately we missed puppy school due to christmas / new years and then he was too old. However general training starts in a fortnight. He responds well to most commands, happy off leash and with other dogs and great with people. We have been very lucky. Just needs some slight assistance here and there.

Yeah thought of that.... but ever door in the house is the same and reversing 10 or so handles doesnt seem fun way to spend the weekend....

Hi Guys, We have a 20week old standard schnauzer who has been growing... and growing. He has now discovered he has the ability to open a door, push it and explore the house. The door is an internal hall door. He sleeps one side, and the bedrooms are on the other side. With great joy and excitement at 3am he opened it this morning. The handle is a standard parallel to the ground, push it down and the door opens without a lock. We had 4 door stops and that didn’t stop him. In an act of desperation this morning I put an old dishwasher against the door and guess what.... the little genius is also strong and that didn’t stop him!!! Any ideas?

We have a 15week old Standard Schnauzer who is fantastic and learning everyday, but have a few questions. 1. He loves eating garden manuare... loves it!!! No idea what it is, guessing cow. He likes to bring a ball in, in his mouth and dropping in his crate with his favourite toys. Doing wonders for his breath. Any ideas? 2. He has decided to start weeing in his bed...... Hmmm, only started three days ago and his only mistakes have been in his bed. The door is not shut ever so he can wander in our out when he wants. Bed isnt there, he heads outside. 3. Crate; goes nuts if it is shut, but still stores all his toys in it. I guess it is the same if he is outside and the door is shut, he is horrified that he won't be able to come back inside. Any ideas on this? 4. I know this is a how long is a piece of string.... how long does the "biting" stage go for... He is pretty much mouthing us now, and if he does it too hard and we react, he now licks an apology. Soooo cute. Any general clues for how long this stage goes for?

Hi All, My wife and I are getting our first puppy in a couple of weeks – a standard schnauzer. We have been out and seen him and are really looking forward to welcoming him into the family. Have been reading alot of threads and books on what’s best to do and how to spend the first weeks/months with our new addition. Due to timing issues, we are getting the puppy at 12weeks and have booked in for the vaccination. We are puppy proofing the house and have even had new fences built... The question I have is: Your top three hints/tips for a new puppy?
