  1. Absolutely. My prayers will be with Jed tonight at 9.00.
  2. Burst into tears when I saw this, what a divine idea, I will be lighting a candle for sure. What about starting a new thread in General for this particular thing at 9pm and pics of our lit candles? Too much? I just want Jed to know how affected we all are and how much we're thinking of her and her children and dogs. Camera and candle will be at the ready alongside you Fran in the hope that Jed will know how much we appreciate her.
  3. Big problem being that unless they add Pacers as a freind and Pacers accept you can't see any details on how to make a donation - I'll put a note on my facebook now anyway.
  4. Newest report from The Courier Mail It's a bit clearer than earlier ones about the RSPCA's involvement and not "the dogs were seized".
  5. The MDBA have (or will have?) the horses, but need someone to take them as they're not set up for dealing with horses, Steve was looking for someone with space for them in one of the other threads Last update said they had someone attending the property to look after the horses at least in the short term.
  6. That sounds like a great idea ill be there to help out. Me too.
  7. That's a lovely thought that i'm sure will be much appreciated. Thank you Julie & the MDBA Pacers for being so quick to help. Ditto. Donation made - I only wish I had more to give - RIP dearest puppies, healing prayers on the way to Jed, and my offer of help however I can is on the table.
  8. I can take 1 or 2 woofers too if they need somewhere to bunk down while things settle - as long as they'd be fine with a German Sheperd and a BC pup. Not sure about the horses but I do know of some agistment at Carseldine that might be ok short term - about 12 horses in the paddock but alot better than nothing if its a problem. If I wasn't so bloody freaked out of horses i'd be happy to help feed and water them - will do what I can to help though.
  9. There's a 17yr old maltese at our local dog park who gets wheeled around in a pram and smells the smells and feels the wind - she's blind and deaf, but she loves her walkies i'm told - it's lovely!
  10. Hmmmmm, interesting thread! German Sheperd (have one now, - GSD's are my heart dogs) Border Collie (Chase has convinced me how lovely they are) Leonberger Great Dane Greyhound (one as brilliant at Yacket's Mum's Biscuit!) Aussie Sheperd Bullmastiff Shiba Inu Keeshound Pappillon (gotta let one little one in my top 10!) I'm a fan of the big dogs!
  11. Nawwwwwwwwwww....... so cute! I am now convinced that whippet puppies are the cutest puppies there are! Chase was cute at 3wks but they're so cute it should be illegal!
  12. I've never owned a Dobe, but have a 2yo GSD at the moment, Sophie, and can tell you she is the best dog in the world, and unfortunately you can't have her. Lol. In my experience GSD's are loyal, social dogs that (when well balanced) are a wonderful family pet and companion, as well as terrific watch dogs and guard dogs - my girl has my back no matter what. I am always going to be a Sheperd girl (-: The only Dobe i've met is very fear aggressive due to a lack of socialisation, so i can't make judgements on the breed knowing that the dog i've met is not a "normal" example. I think all dogs given the right direction, socialisation and environment have the ability to be amazing pets and working dogs.
  13. Lol - problem is he doesnt try it with them! He's a sleaze bag! His little sisters ganged up on him and told him to get stuffed which was good, but i was standing inside looking out the window at Sophie and she just sat there before wandering off! I was saying "tell him to get nicked!" but she loves him i guess - stupid dog!
  14. Wow! I had heard 9 months but yeah - Chase already has his balls pretty much fully descended so i did wonder. He's not allowed to throw a leg over anything, he'd be told off if he tried it on me but for the most part i don't want to correct him harshly so much as tell him "not now" and coax him to shift his attention elsewhere.
  15. Oh really? I'd been told that this wasn't uncommon as he's just figuring his way around things - apparently his dad was the same. He's only tried it with his little sisters and with Sophie once. Thing is I don't want to yell at him as he's possibly going to be a stud in the future and i've been told some male dogs will then be too afraid to "do the deed" if they're discouraged too vehemently. The couple of times it's happened i've just distract him with something to chew on or by giving him a sit or drop command and he gives it up straight away in favour of some mental stimulation - also he's only done if the once with Sophie, the other few times it was his litter mates when he'd not seen them for a few days. I will watch this though to make sure it doesn't become a dominance thing or a regular occurence - I don't want non-stop humping. If he's persistant we will have him chemically castrated. Anyway that isn't my question .................... anyone know the answer?
  16. Completely agree. I'm an other voter for the same reason - my GSD girl is desexed (she came that way as a FTGH) and my BC boy is entire and will remain so, he's on Main Register and my freind who is the breeder has expressed that she'd like to consider using him as stud in the future if he develops to his full potential, though don't know how he'll go considering he has a blue eye which is a major fault, but it's dog sports he's bred for so we'll see how he develops there and then make a decision about his future - if he wouldn't be used as stud (eg, not 100% on confirmation etc) then we'd choose to have him desexed. In the meantime though we will likely proceed with chemical castration if he's a real humper and we're wanting to go to agility comp's just incase there's someone a bit less responsible who takes a bitch on heat out. I think the higher registration fee's is a pain but a necessary evil to try and disuade everyday pet owners who just can't be bothered desexing their mutts and then end up with puppies.
  17. Yeah I know he's not trying to mate with her, but then I don't think he's really being dominant either, I think he's just discovering some puppy instincts! He's been doing it since he was 9wks old, i'm just curious about how early on male dogs are attracted to bitches in heat, and how early they're capable of siring litters?
  18. Hi there? Weird question - at what age can an entire male dog get a bitch on heat pregnant? My little guy Chase 16wks has started trying to ride Sophie - it's kinda hilarious - he's maybe 9kg and Sophie is about 38kg - and she hasn't told him to bugger off yet because she's being gentle with the puppy! She just looks at me with this confused look on her face and wonders why the puppy is having a seizure near her back? lol. She's desexed and i'm sure at his age he doesn't know what he's doing but nonetheless i'm curious?
  19. Go you I've been so unmotivated lately and therefore a bad dog mummy. half an hour of fetch has been Sophie and Chase's excercise regime for the past few days! At least it's the weekend tomorrow! I think we'll pack up a picnic for us and the furkids and go for a walk along the foreshore at Redcliffe and then stop for lunch along the way. ETA - oh, that was my sly entry into this thread - haha. I have the chronic disease known as "Fat Lazy Ass" and need to beat aforementioned condition so walking the dogs seems like the perfect way to do it, even if a gym is way more fun. I'm hoping that i'll morph into one of those sickening gym bunnies who can't go a day without taking a jog because they're just so bloody fit and gorgeous and love excercising. Don't hold your breath though - lol.
  20. Chase is hilarious. Yesterday I got home from work, opened the door, big loves and cuddles and bouncing and fun - about 15mins later i remembered i left my work diary in my car, walked out the door, opened car, extracted diary, walked back to front door, opened - exact same reaction! Lol. I'd estimate the poor dear creature had to suffer a good 15 seconds of solitude. Haha.
  21. Yep - hardest thing for us was treating the new dog like, well, a dog. Lol. No constant picking up, no responding to whining, no encouraging fearfull behaviour, and no hesitation to "UH-UH!" at the top of our voices when he was naughty (like chewing on furniture or chasing the cats or biting us). He's a good little boy and pretty confident which is something we wanted which is why we are careful not to comfort him in a situation where he might be acting fearful, but just to get on with what we're doing and let him adjust without us pushing it, eg, mowing the lawn - he now happily trots after the mower (-: It's hard - but so worth it. I will admit we have allowed him to be a lap dog when we're on the couch - haha. I like my cuddles though (-:
  22. God Im dumb. :p I worked at the Courier Mail for years doing classified ad's - i know all the tricks in the book, including what words are and aren't acceptable in escort ads
  23. AA is just a way to get his ad to the top of the list.
  24. Just the general day to day drool - not so much my scene. Lol. Sophie is bad enough after she's had a drink - Chase sits under her and gets a nice little slinger hat. Yeuckkkk.
  25. She, althought I had to be corrected on that myself - haha. She is so sweet, she was on the list of dogs I wanted to steal on the day, along with Nala and Raz - LOL. They were all great though. The only dog I wouldn't run off with would be Danny - I couldn't handle the drool
