  1. I'm still learning - but in the last 6 months since becoming a dog owner i've been been wrong on so many things, namely 1. Purely positive - pfh - not anymore. If I went purely positive with Sophie she'd destroy me. 2. Crates - hallelujah for the crate. I initially thought they'd be "cruel" for dogs - Chase loves sleeping in his crate all night and it's a godsend 3. Dog Parks - yep - I thought they were the bees knees - i've alot more careful now and if I go to one it's with dogs I know are well balanced. The biggest truth I had to face is that Sophie is not a zero-issues dog, she can be really rough in her play if I don't intervene occasionally and have stopped myself saying "they'll sort it out". She is 100x better now than what she was, but still, no dog is perfect, so i've stopped deluding myself that if the play gets rough it's never her fault.
  2. So cute! I love puppy birthdays! Wait till Jan next year- Chase and Aticus (Kissindra's Great Dane pup) will be having a joint 1st birthday party for Brisbane Dol'ers - i've decided. I should consult Kissindra on this at some stage i guess :D
  3. Cool idea though! It'd be cool to have Sat or Sun arvo playdates weekly or fortnightly - we're always happy to play with other freindly dogs - actually half the time it's the owners who are the problem - so always nice to meet normal dog owners too!
  4. I'm in! I have Chase the 17wk old Border Collie and Sophie is a 2yr old GSD - she can be a bit chasey and rough if the other dogs want to play that way too but generally shes pretty well behaved - can always put her back on lead if need be. ETA i'm in the Murrumba Downs area.
  5. Would love to get involved and sew some too when i can manage to sew in a straight line - i'm working on it, i promise (-:
  6. You have said they're registered in your name - so call the vet as you are the registered owner, therefore the dog, deceased or not, is still yours unless you've signed a clear contract of sale.
  7. I FOUND HER she is going to get back in contact with me regarding obtaining saffrons papers and she will let me know saffron pedigree name she cant remember off the top of her head. so fingers crossed she didnt just spin me a line I'm so glad to hear that (-:
  8. Do you have her Pedigree name? Or the kennel name? I'm surprised they didn't give you their prefix - can you contact them to get it or do they have a website? Any of that info may help you. Good luck - I hope it was just a misunderstanding with the breeder but with the prices you'd mentioned I'd suspect they're bieng a bit dodgy and I hope they've not swindled you.
  9. That's great for you - but I paid top $$$ for a pedigree dog that had the parents with all clear health scores and a pedigree as long as my arm, and yes, i'd love him regardless but i'd have every right to be pissed off if I found out I was lied to - it's not always about "your feelings" and "the cry of your heart for the love of your dog" - it's about breeding quality dogs and ethical responsible breeders being supported. I would be very concerned that you were told you'd have to pay $400 for papers - not saying Saffron isn't purebred, but i'd be doubtful about pedigrees.
  10. Beth Sophie can demonstrate the very complex and impressive "lay down and embarrass mummy by going to sleep in the middle of class and don't move again until you get a kick in the arse so mummy looks like a deranged dog beater". It'll be added to CCD runs soon i'm sure.
  11. You'd have to ask the breeder that. Until the OP clarifies the situation and maybe asks the breeder, nobody can say anything for sure, it is all speculation. Yep - we're all reading it differently. Before we can comment much further we need to know if the dog has Main Reg. Papers or none at all.
  12. I strongly recommend and naming of names be done by PM though guys - i'm sure Troy has enough drama on a daily basis
  13. Victory! I have a freind who Facebook messaged me months ago saying "oi - we'll have some Dogue puppies soon!" which confused me greatly, and upon furthur discussion I learned that his parents (who he lives with - uni student) had acquired a Female DDB from a registered breeder, she was 3yo, and they were going to breed her to their entire male DDB (who was papered) because "they're so cute!". ARGH! Got into a really lengthy preachy discussion with him about the horror that is breeding ( ) and about all the dogs at the shelter I volunteer at who were probably bred because "they're so cute". Have seen him a few times since but It didn't come up again as I figured i'd said my peice and couldn't do much more. Ran into him last night at church and he whipped out his Iphone to show me photo's of the 2 4wk old puppies! I feigned enthusiasm until he explained to me that they would have had the pups a season ago but after talking to me and then going to his folk's with what i'd told them and them deciding I was right they had to wait for their CCCQ Prefix applications to be approved and to get health tests done on the sire and dam as they decided to become registered breeders! WHOOOOO And they contacted another breeder closer to home and asked to be mentored as breeders, and are going to keep one of the pup's for show to get their prefix out there - DOUBLE TRIPLE WHOOOOO!!! I'm stoked. They're really taking it seriously and saying they will consider a repeat mating in a years time after some showing. They have done alot of research in the past it seems and both their dogs have had success in the ring before coming to them, and they have the blessing of the breeders and now a good understanding of breed standards and that their dogs are suitable. Yippee!!! Half an hour later I asked a guy I know how their 5mo GSD bitch is going - "good" he says, and goes on "and my sister just lay-byed (yes - he said LAYBY!) their male GSD that we're gonna mate Bella to". I was appropriately horrified and jumped on my high-horse immediately with ranting, raving, and stonefaced lies about it being $10K if a bitch needs a C-section (god will have to forgive me for that one) and trying to put him off. He's determined that he "just wants some puppies" because they're cute and informed me he wants to name one Rufio. ;) You can't win them all. ;)
  14. I'm sure serial killers have been known to sound "really nice" - . Just kidding - not meaning to cause offence I know as someone who recently purchased a pup that I would be concerned to not have received papers. Chase's Certificate didnt arrive until he was 11wks old - we took him home at 10wks, but I was provided a copy of the application for registration and the breeder is a very close friend so i knew it was above board. At the end of the day the registration of dogs (as far as is my knowledge) is to maintain breed standards and ethics in breeding, and to make sure people aren't just churning out litter after litter for anyone that will pay the price. As far as i'm concerned if you're paying top dollar for a dog you should have the peice of paper to put your mind at rest that corners aren't being cut. There are some great CKC in pounds and shelters too that don't have papers - I know you love your dog dearly (as i love mine) but at the end of the day if there's no papers then there's not proof of pedigree. I'm not diminishing your dog at all, but I am concerned as to why a breeder wouldn't want to register a dog or why they couldn't produce registration papers to verify that they have registered the animal - then again I work in Law so it's my job to be paranoid I personally wouldn't purchase from a breeder that allows people to purchase dogs without papers, and I wouldn't be impressed if they listed all their puppies on main register.
  15. No papers = no proof. I wouldn't have a dog without them. That said - I can't remember where I put Chase's Certificate of Registration! Eep! lol. But at least I know he's registered.
  16. Is it just me or does this sounds dodgy as hell? I would never purchase a dog without pedigree papers unless I was adopting from a shelter or rescue group.
  17. RIP Magnus - I bet you're taking really good care of the other's.
  18. I didn't have a way to light a candle last night, so myself, my husband, and our dogs Sophie and Chase all climbed into bed and we had 15mins of silent prayer whilst we hugged our dogs, one minute for every doggie life lost, and three for Jed and her loved ones. Our thoughts remain with you Jed.
  19. Absolutely wasn't referring to you or your post, you were only helping based on what you were told. I have nothing but respect for all you're doing to help in this awful situation. I was referring only to the post that i quoted as they the colour of the dog has already been confirmed as gold, and furthur speculation wasn't necessary especially as the poster was stating "they weren't sure". If not sure, then best to check the facts rather than further complicate the matter for people who are looking wildly for this poor missing woofer. No disrespect or blame to you Hesapandabear. Anyway - more warm thoughts coming Jed's way and prayers for Magnus to find his way home.
  20. As steve has posted MAGNUS IS GOLD. I also reiterate as someone has already stated it's important not to post incorrect information - if you can't remember then best not to post. Don't want to sound like a cow in the middle of all this drama but unless all the info stays accurate it will just get harder to find this lovely boy.
  21. Is someone staying at the property or nearby so they can see if he comes home? How tragic if he were to come home and wander off again when no one was there to meet him It occured to me that everything will have a very scary smell after a fire for a small doggy trying to come home too. C'mon Magnus - be safe little dude.
  22. What?! Really?! not recently i don't think, but yeah, if you have a read back a few pages steve has posted that it looks like Magnus new his mum wouldn't want him to go with the RSPCA and took off!
