Stolen 4 Week Old Maltese X Shihtzu Puppies - Frankston Vic
Nic oh lah replied to sugar's topic in In The News
:p I'd like to see this 12yr old moron spend a week in an Iso. Pen at a Refuge. Little Ba****d. -
My opinions on all of this have become really solidified since i've been volunteering at a shelter and seeing the abandoned animals look up as i walk past, tails wagging and hoping someone's coming to take them and love them. I strongly believe that people should either purchase from a registered reputable breeder a purebred dog, or rescue one of the lovely dogs that end up in shelters and pounds. And stop with the "I can't afford a purebred" crap - at the shelter this weekend we had 2 pure Tibetan Spaniels, at least 3 purebred Staffy's, a purebred Bull Terrier, Pure Border Collie, and a Pure Dalmation. And Plenty of X breed pooches who deserve the same love and affection. From here on in i'm probably going to get crucified for anything i write, but I believe it so i'm entitled to say it. I acknowledge that due to accidents, eg, Snoopy jumped the fence and visited Millie and now we have an unexpected litter of snoop-lies, X breed litters happen, so take responsibility people to find them loving homes and have people purchase the pups at the cost of you desexing them. Don't make money out of the transaction - as for feeding puppies etc, i'd put this down as your duty of care for allowing the pregnancy to occur, and if you have an entire bitch or dog without intentions to show or breed, then you run that risk and should be prepared to cop the financial loss. Instead of spending funds making people walk their dogs i wish the RSPCA would conduct mandatory yard inspections to ensure animals on the premises are a) registered, and b) desexed - if they're not desexed registration should cost more (it does in my council) and if gentleman really feel that their dog will hate them for chopping off the jewels (c'mon men, grow up) then have them chemically castrated. Otherwise expect higher registration fees unless you are a registered purebred breeder in which case you're already paying CCC membership (that's my understanding). And here's a radical idea - if you can't afford a purebred dog from a registered breeder and don't want to rescue - WAIT! Save your money until you CAN afford it. Alright - i'm vacating the soapbox - and to those who will say "you didn't pay thousands for your dog" no i didnt, I took her as a free to good home from some people who didn't look after her, and if she hadn't come along and been the beautiful pedigree dog she is I would've waited to purchase a purebred from an ethical registered breeder.

This is me trying to get a photo of the big scary dog sleeping with her teddy - but alas I must've made an exciting noise because what I got was a rabid green-eyed dog with a floppy ear and a loose tongue. Sigh. Or trying to get a nice shot of me and my girl - until she decided it was time for kisses. I think my girl is a bit spheschul.

I'm in Bris also, and yeah, those pavements get awfully hot. I've decided that I just need to either walk early morning, like, before 7am, and then after 5.30pm as it's cooling down then, and the pavement is ok. If we're out in the middle of the day, like on the weekends, it's only at leash free parks where she can run on the grass and then doze in the shade under a tree - it's just too hot this time of year. I'm looking forward to winter when I can walk anytime!

The Pedigree is bigger, comes in all sorts of different colours and patterns, and i think that's about it except that the lead is reflective. I just got the standard and i'm really happy with it. I think it's got heaps of space too - i didnt realise that there were 2 big zippered compartments, one of them with a mesh zippered compartment inside, plus a velcroed compartment for my phone, keys, wallet, camera etc, and then the treat compartment and bag compartment. Really roomy. Plus the water bottle holder on the side, and the elastic holder for the ball thrower on the side. A+ for the person that came up with it - brilliant. And a sound investment! hehe.
-
Hehe - they're cute hey. I got grey and black in the end because pink and black was out of stock and going to take weeks to arrive. It's a great size though - i only got the standard and am surprised at how roomy it is! Fit the poop bags and treats, plus extra treats in a ziplock in the main compartment, phone, keys, wallet, camera, water for me on the side and in the bag for sophie, a bowl for her drink, the loop on the side for the ball launcher, and heaps of room for any other random stuff i could need to carry, plus the dreaded no 2's! Found really neat little bottles of Hand Sanitiser at Aldi too, $1.49 and they have a little caribeener clip on the end to clip in on the side of the bag! I like to double bag Sophie's offerings and then clean my hands cause i'm paranoid, so perfect to go with my Houndbag! I want to take it to training tonight but it's dog-free night for the intro and i dont want to look like a total moron - lol. I think i'll do it anyway, teehee
-
Houndbag is FINALLY HERE! There was a delay from Petsonline website because the colour i had chosen was out of stock! Lol. It looks great, plenty of storage, can't wait to take it for a spin tonight!
-
By any chance, Would you mean 4 Legs? I use that for my puppy too and he loves it. Besides that I use Nature's Gift Beef and Liver as well. I've seen that - it looks interesting as an occasional treat to jazz up Sophie's kibble - i might get her some for an occasional addition.
-
I was a bit sceptical about aldi-brand schmacko strip type things and liver treats, and my girl loves them - they're very moist which she likes and boy can she sniff em out. I've tried other things but she wont touch it. Those and peanut butter in a kong and she's over the moon (-:
-
As far as training treats, Sophie LOVES Liver Treats from Aldi! At $1.99 a bag i'm happy!

I Cesar. Hehe. He's cute too! I like his philosophy, and his instinct with dogs, which are especially pertinent in some cases to my GSD, but I agree with most of the other repsonses to the OP being that the DVD's are fascinating watchnig and entertaining, but not intended to be instructional. All dogs are different - if it was as simple as watching a DVD Cesar would just give people his DVD and be done with it - there'd be nothing to film if it was that easy In my case i'm starting obediance with my girl, and having private sessions with an instructor from our Dog Club, so definately head down that route and keep the training to the trainers and instructors - the thing i've learnt is that in many cases it's you that needs to be trained to guide your dog into the correct behaviour, so I think it's important for Dog and Owner to learn it together in a structured training environment - especially first time round.
-
Exactly. Very sad but the mother's fault. She'd had it an hour! I've had Sophie 2 months and I still watch her like a hawk with cats and kids and other dogs as i'd rather be safe than sorry.
-
From news.com.au Awful - but horrendous that this is being brandished on the web with "warning against taking in older dogs'.
-
Came home from work last friday and Sophie patiently waited by her trampoline bed so show me her haul - 2 small scooby doo basketballs and a green squeaky toy with rope. Lol - Balls thrown over by neighbours kids - now have puncture wounds from GSD teeth so they didnt want them back - (they had been warned that over the fence and they're gone into sophies mouth of doom) and the squeaky stolen from neighbours dogs who left it too close to a hole under the wire fence, lol. They're always trading toys with sophie though and vice versa - sharing is caring (-:

Pet Store That Provides A Rehoming Centre For Awl
Nic oh lah replied to mita's topic in General Dog Discussion
Very cool - and a great idea. Just mentioning that Pet Supersavers at Murrumba Downs also rehomes for AWL through their store, and doesn't sell pups from BYB. Long may these places continue, and soon may commercial pet stores disappear. -
Disgusting. Some of the most lovely dog's i've met are smiling Staffies - it's horrid that a few bad owners can ruin it for everyone else.
-
I feel better after this poll, hehe. With a 35kg German Sheperd, I'm glad that she doesn't jump on people (she did but once she's got a gentle knee in the chest twice she's learnt her lesson) and she doesnt pull on leash. Only problems are really Recall, which we're working on, and digging up the yard and destroying anything in sight - although I was prepared for this when we got her, so i'm not really surprised.
-
Woohoo! That looks great! Love the front porch
-
If I have misinterpreted you or your intentions I sincerely apologise, and as i've said - i do wish you luck. The way I read your posts led me to think that you didn't support the right of this breeder to charge what they felt appropriate, if this was not what you meant than i'm sorry if you feel i've been unfair.
-
I can't speak for anyone else but I was not intending to make fun of you, but if you're saying you're aware of most of them selling with papers for $1200 - $1500 then why have you not purchased one of these dogs? If these dogs are not of what you consider a high enough quality, and you would prefer one of the dogs that is more expensive, then buy that one. If not, don't expect that you can post on a public forum hoping for someone to provide you with a pup of exceptional quality for the cost of a pet. And as opposed to cost I was more concerned about your intentions to be possibly breeding with a dog in the future, as i'm sure we'd all rather see breeding left to registered breeders, and you haven't mentioned that that's what you're intending. If you're looking for the best possible dog, save for it, and if you're not wanting to purchase from great lines with papers, and you dont intend on becoming a registered breeder, then don't breed. And I would never mention the name of a breeder and then state that in your opinion they're charging too much - i've never bred dogs but have a freind going through her first whelping and establishing herself as a breeder, and I have the upmost respect for what she's doing - You cant put a price on a breeders blood sweat and tears and to say that a respected breeder is overcharging i find quite rude. I am sincere in wishing you luck - this forum is very welcoming to those with the right intentions.
-
I'm a little concerned that you say you aren't impressed with peoples dogs, and therefore that you would like to possibly breed yourself, but don't want to pay for a dog with Breeding Papers. I completely understand money and the lack of it (don't we all ) but I would hope that if you are looking to breed because you're passtionate about the breed and for the love of the breed, then surely you would understand that premium pups cost premium $$$. Don't get me wrong, if I had a money tree I'd buy myself a massive property and have all the beautiful show dogs I could love and train. I expect that a breeder has a high cost on premium dogs to try and avoid them being purchased for "family guard dogs" and to "maybe" breed down the line, as of course they'd hope that their best dogs will be showing or trialling, as well as having that happy home life. When i get my next dog, I want champion lines, A+ health, and have intentions of purchasing for trialling in agility and obediance or showing if the potential is there, and thus I expect to pay whatever the breeder asks and i'm imagining it won't be cheap. That said, all the best - I hope you find the dog you're after and that in return for you giving him a wonderful happy life, you receive all the love and affection you'll deserve.
-
Cool - all welcome obviously - would be nice to see some other doggies! I'll mention it in the social meets topic too.
-
Sounds good! Well lets meet at Kroll at 2.30pm at the bus-shelter style bench at the agility equipment - hehe - it sound's like a date "I'll meet you on a breezy afternoon infront of the A-Frame" lol. I may or may not bring hubby with me. Drop from a distance! That's so good! Sophie is a bit behind your Lottie but had a private session with Sam from Metro last night and she learnt so much in an hour - so worth it.
-
I've not tried it when wet because the product makers say specifically not to. I might give it a sneaky try - I just assumed they say not to as it'd probably tug on the coat and cause discomfort...
-
I got mine from Ebay - Large Furminator for my GSD was $27 - and yes it's a genuine Furminator, and works like a charm! Love it! I'm even going so far as to carry it around with me for all those people that are skeptical that it can be so good. I should really invoice the makers for my time
