  1. Metro Dog Obediance Club at Chermside is where a few of us DOLers attend - I know BC4me has had great success in Dancing With Dogs, but not sure where she does that. but yeah - Metro has all levels of obediance up to advanced trialling members - the website is www.metrodogclub.com if you want more details.
  2. *peeks head in * eep - scary names i see from my thread in rescue! Not too keen to get flamed again but get my first foster tomorrow night, been told he's fine with cats and other dogs but going to be excessively careful and keep him away from the kitties regardless until there's been a formal temp. test done. Very excited to teach this boy how to be a couch potato in any case
  3. I can guarantee these are low maintenance. No pro groomer is going to want to see one anyway. ;) So i could probably just douse it in pink food colouring and put the bow on myself? Or can you make ones that can tie their own bow?
  4. Which suburb? Clontarf! Peninsula Animal Aid to be precise - i'm there every week, usually washing or drying dogs. its $5 as I said and it's 8am-12noon Saturday. Everyone come say hi! So many people come to Kroll Gardens next door to the shelter and have no idea we do it every Saturday - i'm thinking of making up some cheap business cards to pass out!
  5. Wow - wish you guys all lived in Brisbane! I volunteer at a shelter and Saturday Mornings we do a $5 hydrobath - full shampoo with flea and tick rinse, we do it all, then towel dry and brush and treat. The owners just hold the dogs lead, hehe. I know it's not the full treatment or anything but lots of happy dogs and all proceeds go to the shelter.
  6. Volunteering at a shelter hydrobathing dogs for fundraising, i find it really hard to bite my tongue with people and their FAT dogs. I just make a joke about "you haven't been missing many meals have you, you poor starved creature!" and if i get a giggle or similar response, I generally say to the dog "you mummy / daddy had better put you on a diet so you keep coming to see me for baths for lots more years!" That generally gets the point across. People are killing them with kindness, so i make a point of jokingly calling their dogs "fat-ass" or something like that. Funny - but not for the dog.
  7. Deelee I get this all the time aswell - mainly from GR / Lab owners that have turned their dogs to kegs-on-legs. Whereas at obedience everyone comments on her beautiful condition. It gets hard to ignore though doesnt it!
  8. Cool - so hubby can't complain about being the only OH dragged to a crazy-dog-lady convention, lol
  9. Am i still a crazy dog lady if i bring OH to the meet? lol.
  10. Oh it's not an implication that you're not looking after your pets or over feeding them - when i was given that advice it was for the exact opposite reason, that my dog wasnt eating enough. By making her meal a once a day thing that only lasted a set amount of time i could make sure i knew she was getting enough food in her, and encouraging her to eat up and put on some weight because food was to be eaten when it was available. I was trying to be helpful - but take it as you will
  11. Yeah, i find that too. And sometimes if i'm going to be going out or something and feed Sophie beforehand i too leave her with some of her Kibble - i'm not a kibble-nazi with her, hehe. She used to be a pain though and just graze all day, which would be a nightmare when we start trialling etc.
  12. I too had that problem till i took the advice of others on here and only gave my girl 15-20mins to eat her dinner. But if that's not suitable for your situation i'd try getting a shallow container with a big surface area, eg a cat litter tray or paint roller tray and filling that with a shallow pool of water, and then putting woofer's bowl in the middle - same thing as an ant-proof bowl but a much bigger moat to really drown the little suckers,
  13. Purebred GSD, and 2 x moggies, all of my girls are rescues, the cats were from a shelter, and the dog "free to good home" with a bit of a sad backstory. Should I ever get another dog, will go to an ethical registered breeder, or adopt a purebred from a shelter, but yep, i'm a breedist, I love crossbreed dogs, I'd just prefer to own Purebreds. Cats, I will only even adopt from a shelter due to the ever-exploding cat population that I don't want to contribute to by buying a cat from a breeder. But that's just me - each to their own. Irregardless of species I think all animals should be purebred from an ethical registered breeder, or rescued from shelters.
  14. Eep! What a predicament! Is it certain times she's making a run for it? Eg, when you leave for work or something? If so can you construct a special big dog run for that time and then let her have the run of the yard other times? What an odd council!
  15. Sophie is the first dog that's been "mine" as in, my first dog since married and not living with my parents. I grew up with GSD's and rescue mutts, we have quite the menagerie on our farm in NZ, including countless dogs and cats at any given time, chickens, sheep, goats and my horse Mum was an Obediance Instructor and our "best" GSD Jake went on to be recruited into NZ Police after becoming Obed. and Agility Champ - he needed a job, and my parents had me and 2 little brothers, so it was a perfect fit for him. Then moved to Aus, 1cat and 1dog in a suburban yard was quite a shock to the system. And the dog is a mutt of mutts - bought at a pet store in a shopping centre when we'd only been in the country a few months, and to be honest didn't know better - all our dogs in NZ were breeder dogs etc, and to think back I can't recall that pets were sold in our home town out of stores, so honestly, we didn't know any better. Anyway - she's a stupid mutt that is untrainable and much loved. Now I have Sophie and she's my dream dog, and I can't wait to mooch off everyone else's knowledge!
  16. Sophie gets excited when she sees another GSD - and she gets really fixated to the point of stalking with Blue Heelers.
  17. I too am a CDL - I'm so conscious of if that i purposely try to start conversations about non-dog things so that I don't annoy the hell out of my freinds, and try to write something non-sophie related in my facebook statuses, haha.
  18. LOVE my furminator. HATE the coat king - it cuts the hair which I don't like. The Furminator leaves my girls (2cats and 1 GSD) all feeling lovely and they all love being brushed with it because it gets out all those itchy little undercoat hairs. I've started carrying mine in my houndbag for when people ask about it so they can give it a go, and everyone that's tried it has bought one of their own. And I got it for $20 on ebay with free postage
  19. This has inspired me! I've now looked up the numbers for my local snake catchers and put them in my phone! Hope they can get rid of your visitor GoldieGirl, i almost had a heart attack when i saw a snake slithering past sophie on her 2nd day with us! Amazingly she just barked at it twice then ignored it, and it was just a tree snake, but still *SHUDDER*
  20. Are you suggesting that your family and wellbeing are more important than the forums? Shame on you Bonnie Parker!!! ;)
  21. I don't find it easy! There's a cool lady at the dog park I go to with a Tri BC that I was certain was an Aussie cause he's a pretty solid boy for a BC - but apparently he is a BC so there you go! A freind of mine has just had a litter that includes some blue merle Border Collies - Wonelook Border Collies - absolutely stunning pups, can't wait to see them grow. And Staffylover from these fourms has a sable BC - she's a darling!
  22. email said leave the pups at home for the first meet, so we'll do that Hehe - we attended that one last week so will have Sophie with me this week - be sure to come and introduce yourself! Sophie is the stunningly gorgeous GSD with the pink collar, pink lead and pink rhinestone nametag, hehe. I'm a mean mum (-:
  23. Yeah i'm not so much a fan of getting drenched.
  24. Whooooooooooo - just a nonsense post to vent my excitement at finally getting started tonight. See you all there!
  25. I'm in Murrumba Downs (-: We're practically neighbours!
