  1. Anyone know where I can buy Chris Bach cheap?
  2. Wow some really good advice there guys. Im taking it all in. I will update you all on how we are progressing.
  3. Nah he can bark anytime of day. Since I work a mixture of early shifts, getting up any earlier to exercise him will be hard. He acts the same in the morning as the afternoon, so it wont solve the complete problem. I feed him twice daily, morning and night. I would love to have him inside all the time, BUT, he is a 7 month old high drive German Shepherd that seems to never relax. He chases the cat, jumps on the tables, knocks over everything and eats food out of the bin. So when he does come in, I devote 100% of my time to him or at least constantly watch him. The only down time inside seems to be at night in his crate. the bolded bit is attention he earns from barking. What training do you do with him each day, and how long is he walked (and how often?) What toys does he have ...are they ones which provide a lot of mental stimulation? Was he brought up around lots of different noises? What does he do when he's inside with you? Is he calm, or noisy inside as well? I train twice weekly at either the German Shepherd Club and the All breeds training classes. I clicker train and play with him on "off" days. I take him to the off leash park 4 days a week for around an hour. While there we train and play. I also track train with him around once or twice a fortnight. As far as stimulation, he has Kongs, squeaky toys, daily bones (which help) and hidden treats. I try to take him everywhere I go. He isnt bothered by loud noises e.g fireworks, storms or loud sudden noises. He reacts to people and my cat. So if he hears me inside or the cat meow, he will bark like crazy! Thanks, I will try to get a copy. I would like to thank everyone who has posted so far. Im going to try to take your suggestions on board and see what works. Ill keep you guys posted on how we go.
  4. I have a 8 month old German Shepherd, Reno. Ive been clicker training him with positive reinforcement. I was wondering if anyone can help me to stop Reno from barking like crazy using a clicker/positive reinforcement? Reno barks at everything. He sleeps in a crate at night inside, as soon as i let him out in the morning, he barks like crazy for the next hour. If he hears someone inside talking, he barks. If he hears the toilet flush, tap run, the door close, it will set him off in a barking frenzy. Im sure my neighbors are going to kill me soon. He barks from sunrise to sunset, so I need HELP!!!! Ive tried ignoring him, telling him to be quiet (which works for 15 seconds). I never try to give him any attention when he barks. So how do I clicker/+ reinforcement train him to stop barking? Do I click from inside enough so he can hear it and throw food out the window when he does stop? If I go outside to praise him, he will only associate barking with me going outside.
  5. My 7 month old German Shepherd (Reno) has been scratching like crazy for a month or two and im starting to wonder if its his diet. Ive seen the vet and they cant find anything (e.g flea's etc), so I have been using flax seed oil in his food. At the moment he is eating Nutro Large Puppy, which was working well for him, but he now he is scratching all over like crazy at times. Can anyone recommend some dry kibble that is equal or better in quality than Nutro? I can get most brands of food other than Artemis (Live in N/E Vic). I have looked into BARF, but for now im looking for a kibble.
  6. www.vetproductsdirect.com.au isnt too bad for the basics.
  7. Thanks for asking Shelle. Reno went to the Chiro and found out that he over extended elbow, which left him with some cartilage damage in his left elbow. With anti inflammatory cream, some rest and light physio, Reno has stopped limping and is almost back to normal. He will go back to the Chiro in the coming weeks to check his progress.
  8. He is also very reasonable in his pricing.
  9. Yeah i might have to go to him. Ive been to Ian once before for an unrelated issue and found him fantastic, so i might give me a call tomorrow.
  10. I have a 5 month old German Shepherd Dog. Just recently ive noticed that Reno has been walking funny. Its seems he has a slight limp, but its so minor I cant pick up which foot is the problem. It doesn't seem that he is in pain and is not lifting any foot more than the other. I check his feet to make sure he hadn't had any prickles or damage to his feet, but found nothing. I took him to the vet the other day and he said its most likely growing pains and puppies do this occasionally when young. What do you guys suggest? Should I get a second opinion or is this normal. Like I said, he doesn't show any signs of pain or discomfort.
  11. Are those pour on flea treatments better?
  12. Pretty much as soon as i let him out. Ive also tried feeding him as im about to drive to work. So the time im leaving for work, he is busy eatting breakfast in the backyard.
  13. Im not sure. Any other time of day he is fine. He is outside and being a quiet perfect dog atm. I can leave the house now and he will be just sitting there, not caring at all. He seems to only do it in the mornings (6am - 8am). He runs arounds barking at nothing. I watch him through the kitchen window and he runs around crazy, sometimes looking up and barking. There are no other dogs in my area either, so he isnt responding to any other dogs. Its almost like its a build up of frustation of being in a crate all night.
  14. I have an 18 week old GSD (German Shepherd) that has problems with constant barking. I clicker and crate train him and so he sleeps in his crate from around 10pm til 5.45am. In the mornings he is let outside to be feed and so I can get ready for work. The problem is when I put him outside he starts barking flat out. Today I had the day off and he started to bark from 6am til around 6.30am, then again from 7am til 7.20am. As soon as I walk outside he stops, so It's hard to mark and treat with clicker training. I've tried making loud noises when he barks, I've tried telling him to sit and most of all I've tried to ignore it completely, but nothing at all works. As he is very vocal and loud, im sure my neighbours are sleepless in the morning and will eventually call the council. Im starting to think that my only option is an anti bark collar. Should I really go down the road? If thats what helps I do it. My local petstock (Vic) sells the Petsafe Deluxe Bark Control Collar. Has anyone used this collar and do you think it will work on my 18 week old GSD?
  15. The crate is normally kept in the next room (Lounge/dining). I might try moving the crate to the kitchen... Thanks.
  16. My 15 week old GSD (Reno) has been crate trained and is doing fantastic while in the crate. On these hot days, I bring him into the kitchen to help cool him down. Reno has been wee'ing and poo'ing in the kitchen, even though he gets taken out every 10 minutes. I take him outside and he wee's on command, then comes back inside and 10 minutes he pee's again. Surely I dont have to take him outside every 5 minutes. Can anyone help?
  17. HAHA Thanks, I did get a good laugh out of that!
  18. Renos brand new bed after spending his first night outside of his crate. (15 week old German Shepherd)
  19. I feed my 15 week German shepherd nutro and he seems to love it! It's not cheap, but it's meant to be one of the best dry dogs foods out there in the market.
  20. x 2 If it was sudden onset and not veterinary diagnosed, my first reaction would be a grass seed in the ear. I thought it was a grass seed at first, so i took him to the vet. His ears were checked and given the OK, but to make sure it wasnt an infection, the vet put him on antiboitics. The antiboitics had no effect on him, so i took him to a Chiropractor. He was given the all clear. The chiropractor did say that it could be a Vestibular Apparatus problem, but to be sure, I would have to travel 500+ km to Sydney to see a neurosurgeon. My vet reckons that isnt necessary and that we can try some alternative options.
  21. Ive got a beautiful 13 week old German Shepherd that has a unconfirmed problem with his vestibular apparatus. In a nutshell, its a problem with balance and causes a head tilt to the left. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this with a dog so young and if so, what sort of treatment has worked for you?
