  1. I feel exactly the same as you. Glad to hear I am not the only one. I sleep poorly after being exposed to upsetting images that occasionally pop up on Facebook and feel sick in the stomach for days after hearing about animal cruelty. Why do I feel ill about animal cruelty more than domestic violence, or even child abuse, dare I say it? I've been struggling with this for a long time. I am also dumbfounded at how cruel some humans can be, yet try to remind myself of the many wonderful people in this world. Be kind to yourself :)
  2. My miniature schnauzer is overweight and it has been pointed out to me on a few occasions. She is on prednisone for her bad skin condition. Her vet said that she would prefer her to be overweight than ripping herself to pieces with itchiness. I'm doing my best to reduce her weight, but it is very hard when she is on steroids. It would make me sad if you pointed out her weight to me.
  3. When we made the decision to put our 14 year old Goldie to sleep, I tried to remember that having him struggle each day was only for my benefit, not his. Yes, my tears sure did flow, but felt good to know that he was at peace. Looking through photos of him when he was young and happy, and then looking at the last photos of him with his sad dull eyes gave me comfort that we made the right decision. Take care, thinking of you.
  4. It is so very sad about the tassie tigers. Wouldn't it be just wonderful to have someone confirm that they are still around?
  5. Oh thankyou, I really needed a good belly laugh tonight!
  6. Her teeth are coming along nicely. I had to help one come out a couple of weeks ago but they all look great now. The groomer we take her to was recommended to us by schnauzer so i'm sure she is doing a great job, we are happy with her. I have been massaging them down while watching tv and it will stay down for an hour of so after, but works it's way back up again. I spoke to her breeder who told me to glue them down and offered to do it for us but we are about 3 hours away. She told me how to do it so i'll give it a go. She says that they will be ok after a week or so, as long as i do it straight away as her ear has only popped up a few days ago. Schnauzer, I'm sure we will get used to it if gluing doesn't work, the kids have always wanted a rabbit!
  7. Oh dear Becks, what a shame you think her ear will stay up. Hesapandabear, thanks for the links. I did consider trying something like that but my husband told me I was cruel and won't let me. I'm going to call the breeder later today and see what she says. All of her dogs had floppy ears. I'll get over it if she continues to look like a bat, it's just disappointing. We decided on a pure breed for many reasons, one being we would know what she would turn out like, guess that theory has gone out the window. Oh well maybe the other ear might go up to. At least she will look even then. Husband has renamed her 'Batgirl' just to annoy me. lol Thanks guys
  8. I have a 5 1/2 month old miniature schnauzer who is just a delight. Her ears seem to have a mind of their own and one or both of them will often be standing up. I would prefer them down like they are supposed to be. I have read somewhere that teething affects ears, but will they eventually go back down again? I know it doesn't really matter as she is just a pet, she just looks so adorable when they are floppy, and looks like a bat with them up. Any ideas?
  9. I agree, Riverwood Downs is great. We were there mid Jan and there weren't that many dogs there. We have a caravan and probably every 2nd or 3rd campsite had a dog. We didn't have our dog at the time. With 3 little kids we were cautious but the dogs were all very well behaved and i think i heard only one bark in 3 days. Can't wait to take our dog there soon.
  10. I was quoted a couple of weeks ago for my mini schnauzer girl $230.
  11. DH wants our new mini schnauzer to sleep on our bed but I don't want her to. She is doing so well in her crate, I don't want to change things. DH used to beg for our 2 old goldies to sleep with us, there wouldn't have been room for us!
  12. How disappointing for you and them, although I tend to agree with the previous poster. Maybe they had a big dose of regret and felt that it was the best thing for all involved. Better that the pup be returned rather than be in a home where it is not cared for as it should be. Hope you find a loving new owner for it soon.
  13. It happened to me the other week as well. I was sitting down on the local dog beach and a little terrier weed right up my back. Dirty little thing. The owner was also apologetic but said he had done it before. A little warning would have been nice. Last time I sit down at the dog beach.......
  14. The first breeder we went to the pups were brought out of a kennel area which was a large colourbond type building. Behind the closed door we could hear many dogs barking in the shed. We then asked to see the parents. They were brought out separately and both held up from the puppies. We were warned that the adults dogs weren't friendly to children so we kept our 3 children close to us, although the kids were encouraged to play with the pups. It had been over 13 years since we bought a puppy, but we just didn't feel right about buying a pup from there. The fact that the dogs were brought out of the shed away from the puppies and all the dogs going crazy behind the door made us uneasy. We told the breeder we would think about it and then rang to say we were undecided. The next breeder we went to was a puppy farmer. Even thought she was a registered breeder, she had far too many dogs and breeds for our liking. Didn't stay long there!!!! Hubby went alone to the next breeder as it was in another city. I trusted him and we both knew the type of breeder we wanted our puppy from. He said the mum and puppies were running around happily and all the other dogs were friendly and the breeder very welcoming. He paid a deposit and 3 weeks later we have our gorgeous puppy. So yes, seeing the mum interact with her pups was important to us. I don't quite know why, perhaps it makes it feel more lovey dovey, rather than just a transaction, iykwim?
  15. Forgot to add that due to it only having one door on the wider side of the crate, I have been unable to find a canvas cover to fit it, as the covers i have found on ebay only have access through the end door.
