  1. It's lovely that he's enjoying life now. I kept changing my mind about which photo, but I think I like number 1 best.
  2. I did about 18 months training with Alpha, including their trainers course, but I left before completing it as I got more and more disillusioned with their one size fits all training methods. My dog was becoming more and more shut down and I saw others with the same problem. You have to use head halters and are not allowed to use food. Since I left there and changed methods my dog is very motivated and super easy to train. They have some good ideas and their methods suit some dogs but the trainers don't seem to have much empathy with the dogs. My sister also took her dog there. She is a very soft dog and because the trainer was too hard with her when initially teaching her drop, she is still hesitant when asked to drop. My sister quit because her dog's responses were getting slower and slower. One of our friends took her dog to Alpha because he was reactive to some dogs when walking him. He went through the 6 levels and never reacted to any dogs while there but they didn't help her solve the problem away from training sessions. One private lesson with Underdog has made a big improvement. I'd suggest you talk to Underdog Training. I've done some training with them too and their methods are much more dog friendly.
  3. oops! I tried to post this in the original agility training talk thread but obviously I stuffed up. Sorry.
  4. Has anyone tried the 4 or 5 way connectors sold by Clean Run to see if they fit the pvc pipe sold here?
  5. OMG that is awful - but I couldn't help laughing at the end!
  6. Thanks for that luvsablue - I'll email her now. I'm going! Looking forward to it. This one is covering more advanced topics. Thanks for letting people know it's on luvsablue.
  7. Thanks for that luvsablue - I'll email her now.
  8. Hi Newfsie. Your husband showed me that at the Newf show this year. It's a great idea. Unfortunately my car has a drop down tail gate otherwise I would have wanted one. How's Tobias going? Had hoped we might have seen you at the Christmas break up last Sunday.
  9. I have an older model Toyota Landcruiser and a Newfoundland. I started by teaching her 'paws up' on the tailgate and lifting her bum in and then eventually she started jumping in herself. I usuallly get her to stand back a bit so she has a bit of a run at it and I stand beside the tailgate so I can give her bum a bit of a shove if she needs it - sometimes if she's jumped from an angle, otherwise she's fine. I always lift her out though.
  10. Where was it advertised? I thought we put our names down on a mailing list at the last one and they said they would let everyone know of any future seminars. Is it only booked out for people taking dogs - or for everyone? Hi perfect partners, Maybe you could phone the organiser from the last one and ask because it's only what I heard on the grapevine. luvsablue Thanks luvsablue. Will see if I can find the number. Are you not going this time?

  12. So did I...it has always been part of the regime here for years How much oil and Vitamin E do you give your dogs Newfsie? I give mine 4 capsules a day (she was 45 kgs last time I weighed her, although may be a bit more now) of Swisse salmon oil which also contains vitamin E and a natural vitamin E capsule about once a week.
  13. Oh Newfsie I am so, so sorry to hear that - it's brought tears to my eyes too. It seems to have been a terrible last few months for Newfs and those that love them. Your photos are just lovely - I can't imagine any dog having a better life than yours do. I can't understand how anyone can be cruel to defenceless animals either, especially a beautiful boy like Toby. At least he is having a wonderful time now. I don't think there's anything anyone can say to ease the pain, it's the price we pay for loving them so much, although Souff's post was lovely.
  14. yes no exercise, bland food...this morning he is really good, he slept on the bed and yelped once when Kevin rolled over, so there is some pain there.....but where? he got up and walking running like nothing had happened. He is sleepy because of the meds and still looks a little awkward at times when he walks, but he is waggy and eating, so things are looking good. Would be good to know exactly what happened when he jumped but we may never know. Now fingers crossed that all is well when he comes off pain relief in a few days Given the circumstances, he could have put his back out. I would be taking him to a veterinary chiropractor. Hope he's better soon, poor boy.
  15. Susan Garrett suggests releasing as soon as they look away from you for an instant and then shaping it towards looking at the obstacle. I also recommend Susan Salo's Foundation Jumping DVDs. I'm teaching my Newfie to jump using her system and it's working really well.
  16. I got a Kramar XXL - 122cm x 76cm x 83cm ( says for dogs up to 50kg) at Clipperworld, Cranbourne. Can't remember the price, but it was pretty reasonable compared to others I looked at. You could have a look on their website.
  17. Have a look at Steve Courtney's K9Pro website and Leerburg website. Both have excellent info.
  18. There are a few people who make agility equipment in Australia listed on the Aussie Agility website.
  19. K9: watch me pass this one off... Well the answer is it depends on you! Not you personally but Victorians. We sent out our October Newsletter asking what people in each state would like covered etc and when we get all the answers back, dates will be set. I'm interested and have replied to your newsletter.
  20. That's fantastic Newfsie. What a sweet boy - he couldn't have gone to a better home. What do he and the girls think of each other? Are you coming down to the fun day in October so we can meet him? We would love to come, but mike is working and I am not sure how I would manage the four on my own Tobias is such a friendly social guy he would have a blast, he is however not too well trained and we are working at that. He has no idea what "sit" mans or loose lead walking means A friendly Newf with little training is certainly a handful and with three others as well I guess it would not exactly be fun. Maybe we could meet him next time you are down this way. You'll have to keep us posted with his progress on here.
  21. Hi bertandsally. I think I spoke to you - I had the Newfie. hi perfect partner was good to meet you. i think my OH wants to steal your dog :D Good to meet you too. I'll keep a close eye on her! I could easily have taken your two home - two breeds I really like.
  22. What a fantastic effort. Well done! I was glad to be able to come along and support such a worthy cause.
