  1. Awesome much appreciated guys, I'll go check em out this arvo.
  2. Hello, I have tried the search function of this forum and have been keeping an eye out for dog parks around my living area (Macgregor), so far fail to see such a park around.... Does anyone know of a good dog parks around or close to macgregor southside brisbane? Cheers, Yots.
  3. I'd offer to take one off your hands if you like to offload them
  4. Hrmm.. a slight offside question.. anyone have experience with racq's pet insurance?
  5. I have this problem... the only way I found effective is to have a plastic bag handy most of the time.. as soon as the dog does his poo go and pick it up immediately or when I see one pile on the ground I'd pick it up as soon as possible. Everytime my dog does it I would ignore him for a while too and do my thing. He has stopped eating his poo for a while now or he has eaten it very quick.. either way I haven't seen him done it. I have tried pineapple and pineapple juice neither made any difference.
  6. Me Milo was doing this for a few days. He would bark at one corner of the yard when I in the yard.. I originally thought he was barking at my shadow (bbq light behind me) but later saw and found out that there was a small blue tongue lizard there and once the lil lizard moved on Milo stopped barking.
  7. Hey guys, I took yesterday day off spend half the day cling wrapping fish tanks (bought a roll of the heavy duty stuff from bunnings), used a protector smoke thingi and a 3 flea bombs.. All me fishies are all good, short of having half the house ash smelling from the protector smoke bomb.. all went ok so far... wish I had the time to check this post yesterday but she who I must obey has had 2 sleepless nights.. one more and I would be spending time with Milo outside.... If the current situation doesnt improve, I'll check out home remedies and try some of the suggestions there too thanks. Will also look at the derris dust too. Cheers Yots.
  8. Pet City at macgregor I have been to Southside Dog Obedience twice now, they are breaking over Xmas break atm... The people there are really friendly, me lab is a really excited doggy. When I first get there he would chase after anything that moves.. people or dog. After the first lesson, he has settled down alot more, the lessons are short (relatively since time flies when its fun) and everyone there is really friendly. Didnt think Pet City at Macgregor does classes (maybe I'm blind?), sure you are not referring to the one at Mt Gravatt showgrounds ?
  9. Hey guys, Got an issue with fleas atm, they have appeared in our carpet lounge area and also in our hardwood surface in our bed room. I have spray surface spray to kill them in the lounge area, however not sure what to do with our bed room. The dog is an outside dog and sleeps in the shed so I'm thinking I should treat the shed too just incase.. Dog is on advantix monthly so he should be good, I just wanted to make sure his sleeping area is clear too. So far the only product I have found on the web is the mortine flea bomb that has IGR, since I have quite a few fish tanks in the house.. I cannot use it, so need some advice on it.... I am thinking of using the mortine flea bomb in the shed when my dog is not in there too. Is this going to be issues? so the questions are.. what can I do/use inside the house that will treat fleas but won't kill my fishies and wether using a mortine flea bomb in the shed is ok for my dog afterwards.. Cheers, yots.
  10. Physical, I take him out for a walk in the morning and in the evening. They are at least 25 to 30minutes and its more of a casual walk than jogging tho I have just started to go a lil bit longer in distance since yesterday. Mental, I have just started doing some mental activities just after the walk as I am trying to teach him a few things. "Leave it" one thing I am trying to get consistent with atm. I still get him to do the usual sit, hand hand and also down. Can start him with obedient school this coming monday as I couldn't start him earlier as it was in the middle of an already running school. With my brother, this is only according to my parents as my brother is still overseas atm. He gets one walk usually, sometime none, sometime 2 in terms of physical. Mental he was going to puppy and then obedient school once a week? Environment wise he has a big backyard (3x the size of my brother's backyard) and he is free to roam during the day.
  11. Yup he gets bones every now and then (a piece every 2 to 3 days), there are left over bone pieces around the yard which I am considering removing as they have been there for a while now.
  12. It used to be after its dried for a while... but because I have been picking them up he has been going for it as soon as he's pooped. I am teaching him "leave it" at the moment so thats helping.
  13. A mixture of Bonnies and also supercoat puppy dry food. More so the Bonnies than the supercoat at the moment. So the main food he gets are dry. I do mix boiled veg, left over cooked rice, bread, etc in about every second or third meal he gets. This could be in his breakky or his dinner.
  14. Ok I can say that the pineapple trick does not work for Milo..... so next step a change in diet..
  15. All good no kittens here anymore Cool good to know, I'm not so sure with Milo... He does like to scratch himself abit lately, hence why I'm thinking re-apply in a week's time.
  16. pineapple eh... I have a can in my cupboard.. simple to test. I'll looking into BARF and also the pineapple suggestion. thanks
  17. Can you share some tips/methods/technique/tools on how you train them (or url if you have previously posted this tip)? I have have my challenges in trying to get my 6 months old lab to stand on one spot without them trying to avoid the brush or trying to chew the brush.
  18. Thenks for the info aidan, any chance you could link the high-quality diet recipe or the url to the recipe if its already been posted before? Cheers, Yots.
  19. Hello all, Got a couple of problem that has been bothering me abit now... I have a 6 months old lab milo.. He likes to dig around the yard nothing huge but big enough to be annoying, not too much of a deal.. but he also eats his own poo. >.< Was seeing people mention about using the dog's own poo to stop them from digging... in my case this wont work as he will eat his own poo and then dig anyway.. So the couple of questions are: 1) How do I stop him from eating his own poo.. 2) How to stop him from digging.. Since he started eating his own poo (previous owner my brother has told me he's had this habit since puppy), I have been removing them manually from the garden each time. But since he has the whole backyard there has been times when he would be eating it before I got there to remove it. He also only eats poo that is not just been put down so he'd only go and eat them after a few hours or much later. So any suggestions on how to stop him from eating this own poo first then trying to stop him from digging? Thanks Yots.
  20. Thanks guys, I'm using it for fleas and ticks... So far he seemed ok with it, his coat is not very long but I have seen him scratch himself every now and then since yesterday. Think I'll reapply it in 2 weeks time properly just incase.
  21. Coz that is the only time I could have him standing and on one spot, which means I can only put it on him in two different times a day... otherwise he'd think its play time and I'll have a hell of a time trying to get him to stand still on one spot and not think its play time. If not putting it on him so soon, how long to you think I should wait?
  22. Hey guys, Me 6 months old lab Milo is due for his fleas, ticks treatment today and I applied it without fully reading all the instruction... IE. I put it on the 3 spots on his body while he was eating but on his fur not on the skin.... Afterwards I thought it didnt make sense and read the complete instruction :S It mentioend skin.... So given that I have put it on his fur and not his skin, I am thinking of redoing it tonight onto the skin while he is eating dinner.... Is it ok for me to do this or would this cause an overdosage? This is the one I have... http://www.bayeranimal.com.au/default.aspx...0&ItemId=14 Yots.
  23. All good, I just called the vet hospital that my bro used to take the lab to and they tell me the next vacc is not due till next year aug. So he has had all the vacc. Ah so its based on the membership period not based on joining date. ok thanks for the details. Will check the lad post soon. I am not sure where my bro got the dog from.. I only see a receipt for the dog in the folder of doc he sent me and it doesnt contain any details of where my bro purchased it from.. pedigree papers.. I dont see anything with the pedigree with any of the papers I have, so I assume that would be a no. :S With the lab thread you meant this one yeah? http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...rador+retriever Thanks again. Thanks luvsdogs, I will check out that website too.. just saw the other post so have download the two pdf Before and after you get your puppy.
  24. With the certificates I have two infront of me now... one is Vaccine * Canine 5 in 1. It does have next vaccination details of 01/09/2009 Distemper Hepatitus Parvovirus Kennel Cough. I am asking my brother to check wether he has had that done or not (IE. he may have forgot to sent me the papers, as he was in a rush to head overseas due to inlaw family emergencies). The other certificate is Vaccine * Protech Duramune C4++BB, with a next vaccination of 26/8/09 Distemper Hepatitus Parvovirus Kennel Cough. Last one I have is Certificate of Sterilisation. So its possible he is due for one more vaccinations... going to wait for me bro to get back to me before I call up the local Vet.. With the training cost. If I pay the $10 this coming monday (assuming no issue with vaccination) does it mean the due date for membership afterwards would be next year 16/11/09? Ok thanks for the info on the treats. I have been taking him on a between 30 to 45 min walk.. as he just keeps going otherwise :S Tho this is him walking and stopping alot on sniffing and stuff tho. Anyway I'll make sure its only 15 minutes out then back. This is the first time I owned a dog yes, the last one was really looked after by my old man a long long time ago. With books, reading, etc. I have started reading who's the boss by Val Bonney. So i'm still reading up slowly. Thanks again for the info and advice.
  25. Hello Seita, Thanks for the welcome and information. Monday night... cool, bummer on the last one for the year tho.. but I will still rock up on monday (if I can get him into the car ok, will have to see and try). What time does it start normally on mondays and what are the cost involved? With the Vet, I know where it is now I will go check em out tomorrow or day after. Problem is I am not sure if he have had all his vaccinations yet, my brother told me he has and I have all his papers but i have no idea what I am looking for/at to confirm. When I take him out for a walk, I do take treats with me but I have only given him when we get home and I try to get him to do sit, stay and down before giving him the treat. I have given him treats before while on the walk (when he has done something good), but as soon as we get home he would go nuts when I try to unleash him. :S So now I only give it to him after I unleash him. Btw what are some good treats that I can get for him? I have had him close to a week now, he arrived last wednesday. So I'm still learning and he's still settling I'm guessing...
