  1. defiantly get the watches and other pieces valued by someone else, it could be worth going going to an auction house and getting them to value/sell it. It is always good to remember that when businesses buy goods from customers they are not going to want to pay top dollar for it. I was raised surrounded by antique dealers and some of the stuff they got cheaply off people who didn't know the worth of the item and then sold for a much bigger profit was amazing.
  2. You poor thing, unfortunately some people just don't learn, and it will take something horrible to happen to make them realize what morons they are. Since we live in what seems like the dog roaming capital and fear is so often used in the media, my boyfriend as a joke suggested making up fake fliers to be stuck in the neighbors letterboxes warning people that a recent spate of missing dogs had been associated with a dog fighting ring in an associated area. Small white and Fluffy 's are used as bait and anything big is conditioned into becoming a nasty fighter.
  3. wow, it always amazes what morons are out there. good on you though for doing the right thing, I know how it can make you want to tear your own hair out though. I picked up a cattle dog once who was wondering around the streets with no collar, took her home and called council and was told I'd have to wait for 4 hours till someone came to collect her. Ended up wandering around the streets for 1 hour door knocking with the dog to see if I could find where she lived. Council called me back, the owner had reported her dog missing and she came around to collect her. The owner was quite miffed that I had picked up her dog and said " I let her out every morning so she can have a wander around and play with the neighbors dogs. The dog doesn't like being fenced in the backyard or wearing a collar or even a lead, so I just let her do her own thing" I mentioned that the cattle dog and my dog had had a bit of bark and growl through our front door, the owners reply " yeah, she can be a bit dominant and nasty with other females." She then called the dog and they wandered off home, no leash or collar on the dog. Funny thing was, this dog walked perfectly on the lead when I was dragging her around to all the neighbor.
  4. I've recently been looking into this myself, after someone pointed out a loose dog in the car (even behind those gate things) can turn into a projectile in an accident. Which honestly scared the crap out of me. It seems that some people recommended not using a harness that goes up high around the dogs chest, as if you break suddenly, the harness can severely damage the dog's trachea. that being said, it was advised by the vet endorsing this particular harness. 5. to answer questions: we tried ignoring the behavior for 3 weeks last time we have 3 fans, 1 in the lounge room, 1 in the hallway leading to the loungeroom and 1 in the office none of the fans make a noise when the fans are on they are always on low, and always only 1 is on as we have a semi open plan house and there is no need for more than 1 to be on at a time she also has a habit of 'checking on' of the fans even if there are off, if the fans have been on in the last day or so. thans for the advice, I will keep you posted with how it goes.
  6. I have a bit of a problem and I hear that this is a great place for advice. Our dog is scared of the ceilng fan, everytime I turn it on, she runs out out the lounge room and will not return unless there is serious bribery, even then she keeps her eye on the fan and jumps and whines at it unless we distract her constantly. it has gotten to the point that even when I go to turn on the light switch which is located next to the fan switch, the dog will start to leave the lounge room and only stays when she realises the fan is not on. We had this problem last spring/summer and after reading up on it, we decided to take the aproach to ignore her behaviour, which did not work then tried slowly introducing her to the fan being on. it didn't quite work, after a few weeks she would enter the room, but always keep an eye on the fan and occasionaly whine at it. This spring though, she has gone back to her previous behaviour. Since there seem to be a multitude of ideas on the internet on how to deal with this, I am quite confused as they seem to suggest the opposite of what the other say. Your help would be greatly appreciated. by the way, the dog is a 2 year old, female, ridgeback x mastiff (or at least we think)
