I took Misha back to the dermatologist to get another intradermal test done to see if the allergy vaccine she has been on for 1.5 years had had any effect, as I had not seen any improvement. When the first intradermal test was done, before she was put on the vaccine she only had high reactions to Dust mites & storage mites, all the rest of the antigens tested she did not react to. In the intradermal test done yesterday, she had unchanged high reactions to dust mites & storage mites and high reactions to more things: mosquitoes, house flies, horse flies & cockroaches and medium responses to feathers and low scores to plants I am dealing with the Dermatology resident at the moment and she said that Misha starting to react to a whole new host of things is not a problem and some dogs just have an ability to become allergic to things. She has proposed that the new allergens be added to the allergy vaccine and we start with the new formula from scratch, as well as putting her on cortisone tablets, which so far she has not been on. From my limited understanding of these things, this seems like a bad plan, the vaccine has had no effect in 1.5 years I have been administering it, as I understand it, the vaccine is meant to build up over time a resistance to the allergen, combating Misha’s overactive immune system, but if she is now reacting to things she never reacted to before does that not mean her immune system is becoming even more overactive which would be a result of being exposed to more and more of her current allergens over the last 1.5 years. My apologies for the long post, but I’m really confused about the treatment plan, and presently I do not have much faith in the Dermatology Resident as she has been doing this for a shorter amount of time than I have been treating Misha.

yes that would be the better solution, but I've buggered my foot and I'm hobbling around at the moment, which means searching for Misha's bone hiding spot is not so easy ( I hurt my foot in the first place in the war zone that is my garden) and I do not seem to be able to catch her with the bone. what brand papaw ointment did you use?
-
Misha has scraped a bit of skin off her nose from chewing a bone, normally I'd leave it, just clean it if there was any dirt, the problem is that the scrape is not healing well as she keeps knocking the scab off when she returns to the bone. The scrape is not infected and I can poke it without her getting upset so I don't think it hurts, but I was wanting to put some papaw ointment on it to help with the healing, is it safe to use on a dog? especially since there is a good chance she will lick some off.

pfft it just adds flavour!! second the take away container or saucepan if it doesn't freak her out! great now not only do I have the mental image of someone sneaking up ninja style behind their unsuspecting dog with a take away container as the dog pees, I'm now thinking about seasoning woks with dog urine.

http://www.news.com.au/national/abandoned-...r-1225867554682 A DOG left behind at the scene of a hit and run on the Gold Coast may yet lead police to the culprit. An elderly woman was seriously injured in the crash on the Gold Coast Highway at Burleigh about 6pm on Sunday (AEST) when a car travelling north crossed into the southbound lanes and struck three vehicles. Police said the woman was trapped in her car and had to be freed by Queensland Fire and Rescue officers, using hydraulic equipment. She was taken to the Gold Coast hospital in a serious condition. The Brisbane Times reported a total of seven people were taken to hospital after the wayward driver collided with three oncoming cars. The driver responsible fled the scene, leaving behind his V8 Commodore and his dog. Police were checking if the Staffordshire terrier is microchipped, which would provide details of the dog's owner. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

http://www.news.com.au/weird-true-freaky/w...i-1225865752274 TOURISTS visiting Sydney Opera House will be wondering who let the dogs out when a crowd of people walk their pups into the iconic building for a landmark event. The architectural masterpiece has hosted music lovers as distinguished as Queen Elizabeth II, but for one day pooches will turn the Opera House into the world's fanciest kennel for a one-off concert of music for dogs. The 20-minute outdoor show will take place on the northern foyer of the Opera House and will feature music composed in a pitch that only canines can hear. The experimental concert, held on June 5, is part of the upcoming Vivid Live music festival which kicks off at the Opera House on May 27. Tamarama dog owner Renee Russell plans to bring her spaniel Ollie along to enjoy the show. "I'm definitely going, I want to see how he'll react," she said. "It's getting harder to find places you can take dogs so it's nice they are putting on an event for them."

In my admittedly limited experience, it is a game before a zoomie moment. I sometimes do this with Tamar. She will be standing looking sweet/confused/lost in the yard and I will go into a bit of a crouch and stalk very slowly towards her. Her body starts to stiffen, the tail will give a little wag, she will look a bit uncertain and then simultaneously she will leap and spin and I will rush towards her. Sometimes, it will mean a big zoomie around the yard with others joining in and sometimes it will go nowhere. She enjoys whatever happens. thank god I'm not the only one that stalks their own dog, Its nice to know I'm not too far gone.

Misha was put on an elimination diet for six weeks before the testing, to rule out food allergies. The testing for environmental allergens involved Misha being knocked out, the side of her being shaved and concentrates of allergens exposed to small parts of her skin, each reaction was given a rating and the allergens with the highest reactions where the things she was allergic too. I think it took about 1.5 hours, well worth it other than Misha looked like a Borg with all the dots on her shaved side . Misha is allergic to dust mites something that I would never of thought of and don't think I could of worked out any other way than getting the test done. This is though my very basic understanding of the process, I'm sure someone else could give you a more detailed description.

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/drunk...0-1225859837087 AN allegedly drunk man shot his puppy in the behind with an arrow, causing an injury so severe the dog had to be put down. The suspect was angry because the one-and-a-half year old puppy wouldn’t come home to him when he called it, Huron Township, Michigan Police chief Greg Hinzmann said. The suspect whipped out an arrow and shot the animal as his 13-year old daughter watched, a source told the station. The daughter and her boyfriend rushed the dog to a veterinarian, but it was too late, myFOXdetroit said. Though a source told the station the man was drunk, Hinzmann said it wasn’t immediately clear if that was the case. Huron Township is 225km north of Detroit, Michigan.

It depends, I prefer how black dobes look over the brown ones, but I think that's because I was raised with a black one, some breeds to my eye seem more striking in specific colours but at the end of the day, a dog is a dog and I would choose a dog based on temperament, size, sex and other things I feel are more important.

I was moving out of a pet free apartment due to a nasty incident and since I was moving in with my ex into a house rented from family, I was finally able to have my first own "big girl" dog. I was still researching and browsing when I saw a photo of a small brown puppy with a white diamond on her head at the RSPCA, we went to look at her and honestly I think she pinned us as the suckers who would take her home. We had a meet with some of the other dogs at the shelter before and after meeting her, they were all lovely but as soon as they were put back in their cages they lost interest in us, especially the puppies. Misha though stood at the front of her cage and stared at us the whole time. When she was brought out, she jumped all over us, nipping, licking and chewing on my toes. She was full on and looking back not the best puppy for me. But I was hooked and there was something about her I adored , so a few days later she came home with us. Its a decision I have never regretted and cannot imagine my life without her. When she reached about 8 months, the diamond on her head that first made me notice on her disappeared, personally I like to think that the diamond was Misha's advertising ploy and it disappeared because she no longer needed to advertise as she had found her home. I know this is bollocks, but I like the idea.

I have been thoroughly treating the house for a fortnight and when I used advantage on the cats, that seemed to kill them off instantly on them, all I found was very dead fleas on the cats and their surroundings. I think I may have an infestation instead of a problem, how do treat a very large yard?

Get a Capstar tablet from the vet, it will kill the existing fleas that are still on her , and that will give the other product time to work. I always use a capstar first for any dog coming onto my place and then Advantage or similiar. bugger forgot about capstar, I'll pick some up from the vet
-
I have just switched to Advantage, as when I first discovered Misha had fleas a fortnight ago, the frontline did not work. I treated Misha with Advantage yesterday afternoon, washed all her bedding and other soft furnishings as well as sprayed any other soft furnishings I could not wash with Fido's Free Itch and vacumed the house. This morning I discovered about a dozen fleas on her bed, not dead and while they can't jump they were still moving around, I then inspected the dog and she has these zombie fleas on her as well. The advantage is meant to kill all fleas on the dog within 20 mins. I'm a bit stumped and was wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar or had any suggestions? ETA: the problem is I'm finding mainly half dead fleas, not dead fleas.
