  1. Heehee, sounds like we'll both be hard to miss!! Ooo just remembered, make sure you bring some poo bags, they don't supply them and you get dirty looks if you don't bag and bin (including from me ;) )
  2. Cool, that's usually about when we're there anyway. It will probably be busy-ish about that time but there is an entrance down the far end as well as the one near the car park so if it's busy it might be easier to go in that way. Not too many DDBs there so I should spot you guys. I'll be the one with the noisy Sheltie, the Aussie jumping on everyone (if you hear "Quinn down" that's me) and the poodle x begging everyone for food :)
  3. Agree wuffles and HW, concrete and steel do not make for safe agility equipment!! Go to Casey or Belconnen MUP, much better for running around (not that I've been to Casey yet. Belconnen is our regular), and closest to where you'll be (other than Forde). What time will you be there? We (me and the dogs) may drop by and introduce ourselves :)
  4. Yes it would be sad for the puppies to be pts but if no one ever reports these people breeding and selling illegally and they never have to face consequences, how is it ever going to be stopped?
  5. Mrs RB, that just reminded me of Saxon once begging for Wasabi peas because that's what the humans were eating. We have him one and he tasted it, the look on his face was so funny! He kept spitting it out but eventually ate it, just because he could see we were eating them, then came back to beg for another one :)
  6. Probably bringing it up again and mentioning one name doesn't help either, maybe everyone could just drop it?
  7. I REALLY hope people don't derail this important thread by bickering with each other, it's not fair in what is already a horribly stressful time for Natasha and all involved. Maybe just think about whether you need to comment negatively on what other posters say. So hoping for Orange's safe return xx
  8. I've had many more years of giving tablets to cats than to dogs. The only way to give them to cats is to wrangle them into a full body grip, pry their mouth open and shove the tablet right down their throat. Dogs are way easy after that... Treats wise, cheese is the favourite! (Quinn's top priorities in lfe go: cheese; little kids; other food; people in general; dogs). The Love'em Puppy Treats are also popular. Pretty much anything will do though. Carrots are enjoyed at home, good for crunching on.
  9. Heehee, a smoosh-hound! I call Quinn smooshy-face all the time, maybe I should get one of these and have an actual smooshy dog.
  10. It's a bit disingenuous to declare some risks definite and some risks only potential. By definition of the word, all risk is potential and not definite. Sorry, what I meant by that was that if you desex as a baby you ARE risking certain consequences, which may ore may not happen. However your puppy buyer MAY or may not desex the dog when it has matured more but before it has any opportunity to breed, so the breeding risks are potential depending on what happens in the future. Hope that makes some sense!
  11. Cross over posts! I do see what you're saying juice, and there are breeders who agree with you and desex babies of various species before they go to pet homes. As you say, there is much less room for debate in adult dogs being rehomed from rescue or a breeder, the arguments against desexing young for developmental reasons just don't apply.
  12. Yes I thought that would be your argument juice. I guess most breeders decide that the definite risks of desexing their puppies as babies outweigh the potential risks of the people they place them risk breeding irresponsibly from them. Re the OP, I'm sure many breeders would love to check in with their pups at 12-18 months to see how they've turned out, and most likely desex them if they were then going to rehome them so I too find it odd that this breeder didn't. Sadly the dog has paid for it. Let's hope he isn't treated too badly
  13. Wow, these guys are cool looking!! ETA - the Dutch shepherds (photo quote didn't work)
  14. It is different from a breeder selling a litter of pups undesexed. The debate you raise is around juvenile desexing, not desexing of adult dogs being rehomed, which is what this thread is about.
  15. She's not warning because she doesn't know when she's about to go! She's a baby, she doesn't think about it until suddenly she can't hold it in. Hard floors are a godsend, keep up the high value rewards when she goes in the correct spot, ignore her when she goes in the wrong spot and she will get there :)
  16. Awww kg, cuddles :) I have three dogs and me in/on my queen bed. Over winter they all seem to want to be touching me so I usually end up with Saxon (5kgs) on one side of my legs, Riley (7kgs) on the other side of my legs and Quinn (22kgs) stretched along the other side of the bed with her back up against me. So I can't move from my one position on one edge of the mattress!! Now it's getting warmer I'm getting too hot so I sometimes manouver right to the edge so I can stick my feet out from the doona. I'm hoping in summer they'll move away from me of their own accord otherwise I may have to kick them out. As for special cuddles, which I don't often have, I would have to kick them out of the room as no doubt they would be jumping all over the bed trying to join in on the weird 'game'
  17. I think punishment, within reason, definitely has its place in dog training. A verbal or mild physical correction shouldn't traumatise your pup :) I tend to think that around 16 weeks is when theit little brains start challenging us, not just going with classical conditioning, especially in such a headstrong breed. So you probably need to show her who's boss sometimes (without hurting her, as I'm sure you wouldn't). Puppy school, Erny - *thumbs up!*
  18. It is exciting! I was quite excited when Riley's pedigree papers arrived in the mail as I'd never had or thought about a pedigree pet before and thought it was all quite fancy :) then I walked into the lounge room to find said pedigree purebred puppy lying on his side on the floor furiously digging at the side of the couch with all four paws :) So fancy! My avatar shows Saxon and Riley, my little fluffy boys, I havent yet added Quinn the Aussie Shepherd, she's still fluffy but medium sized (22kg ish) and a whole different kettle of fish.
  19. *Waves* to MUP, you fellow night owl you!
