Just When You Don't Have The Camera Handy
Simply Grand replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
They're just so helpful aren't they? Mine normally 'help' by play fighting with each other under my legs :eyeroll: or jumping on my lap... Sigh. -
That's so funny, when I looked at the pics I thought "aaawww, Bonnie and womby". Saxon's favorite is Polar Bear (who is, surprise surprise, a polar bear toy from Sea World). When Saxon first came home as a baby he pretty much the same size as Polar Bear so I love seeing Sax with him now. Sax likes to bring PB over to me and push him against my arm or leg, then when I look he "kills" him (shakes) Riley is the funniest, he tends to get attached to the bits left over once a soft toy has been de-stuffed and pulled apart. So he'll walk around for weeks with an unstuffed toy arm or leg or head

Aaaww, poor little Frankenpuggie. You're doing a good thing taking care of him :)

Stopped A Dog Attack This Morning...
Simply Grand replied to Ruin Maniac's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just wondering about the lifting by the back legs thing, I did this to Quinn once when I was trying to stop her eating a mouse she had in her mouth. I hoped if I lifted her leg and pulled her backwards she might open her mouth and drop it. She didn't, she just held on tight. I understand that it was a totally different situation to a dog fight, but does anyone think it might indicate that not all dogs will let go when you lift their legs up? -

No tlc, they just know, like mine, that you obviously need assistance in there  -
Thanks for explaining, no wonder you were shaken! Yep I would report it. Whatever happens to him won't be your fault, it will be his owner's fault for not containing him.
-
I wouldn't think the fact that he knows where Poppy lives now will make much difference when she's in season. If he's lose he'd probably be able to find her anyway. Was he actually being aggressive? It's hard to tell from what you've said. If he was i would probably report it to the ranger. If he was just following you maybe try talking to the owners? Depending on what they are like, maybe be careful about mentioning that you will have an entire girl, it could be risky if the wrong people knew that and maybe tried to steal her.

Good on you RM :) poor little dogs, amd their owner, I hope they all come though it ok. After reading everyone's comments, I do agree with reporting it yourself. Like you, I wasn't sure if I would when I read your first post but now I think it is the right thing to do. If people were coming and going from the house the owner of the dangerous dog should have shut him in a room, tethered or crated him like you said. -
Totally OT, but is Tralee male? HW mentioned 'he' and I'd just assumed 'she' so just wondering...
-
Do you think that would happen at an all-breeds show piper and others? Not being a smart-arse, genuinely wondering. Espinay, how did you find it as an operator? I can't see the benefit to an operator spending a day or two there if there is no charge to users, maybe the club paid a daily rate or something
-
Oh, I always thought it was Ack-eron, I shall say it in my head correctly now :)
-
And you'd probably have to charge by time use, with a large increase for going over your booked time, otherwise you'd have some people taking forever and others missing out and probably getting very cranky! Plus different breeds obviously take longer or shorter times, and even within breeds the drying time can vary heaps, depending on the coat so you'd need to make sure people were realistic with their booked times. Oh and if it's humid/damp/raining drying takes even longer again.

Trouble with places like beaches, parks, markets etc is that you need access to water and power supplies (unless you have a powerful generator and massive water tanks on board).

I knew an Iggy called Cello (pr. chello), I thought it was a good name. One of Quinn's litter brothers is named Donkers..Unusual but not so regal
-
I agree not at trials. At shows where people have to travel and camp they may well like to make use of the bath & dryer, though probably have their own tools and products. I expect show people would want to do it themselves and might be quite particular about residue from other products, thorough disinfection between dogs etc etc. And I don't know what the liability/insurance issues would be with having multiple other, untrained people in the van and using the equipment.

I got the impression there were multiple doggy parts in Chitty? I have seen the movie but it was a loooooong time ago when I was a kid, I dont remember much.
-
 She's just the cutest thing! She reminds me of Saxon when he's cranky, I call him my evil Gremlin - as in the cute fluffy kind, before midnight or water, but in a bad mood!

I know, I was quite alarmed by how they were running that boarding / "training" place I wondered whether the apparent celebrity clients knew what the place was like.

Things Dog People Get Excited About
Simply Grand replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
Learning leg cocks is so cute, when you watch them lifting the wrong leg or shifting trying to figure out which one, or losing balance :) -
How cute! I'd love go see it. I can't remember if I posted it or not but I saw an ad in the paper a couple of months ago for "pawditions" for doggy roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the stage show. They only wanted muttleys, as they were meant to be street dogs. If I had been closer I might have taken Saxon along for a try out, he's quite happy being centre of attention
-
I keep coming back in to look at it  Poor boy, you've shared his most embarrassing moment with us all.
-
Such a cute thread! Louieeeeeeeee :D CC, how funny and adorable.

Mrs RB, I did almost exactly that this arvo when Quinn opened the door to the spare room (a new talent of hers :eye roll:) and took herself in and onto the spare bed. I didn't use a lead, although I gave her collar a tug, which she resisted by just holding firm - I assume she found being on the forbidden spare bed very rewarding. I then realised that rather than physically lugging her off the bed, I should just go out of the room calling her excitedly and then praising her when she came out of the room (then closing the door and promptly installing a lock  ) It worked for me as I have spent every day since Quinn arrived (she's 12 mths old) doing NILIF, reward based training, building our communication etc, and she's never shown even the slightest aggression or defiance (apart from brief non-violent resistance, like she did when I tried to pull her off the bed). It doesn't sound like the OP has that sort of training relationship with Layla at this stage but I think they should be aiming for that

Bahahah I dont have anything to rival that!

Like dancinbcs said, Shelties are really easy to groom! A brush once or twice a week is plenty, I probably average 5-10mins per session, although my boy doesn't have a big coat. I do the occasional comb or trim out of matts behind the ears, which he gets because he and my other dogs are chewing on each other. Shelties are sweet and gentle, and very focussed on their person. Trainable, energetic but with an off switch. They tend not to be all that interested in other people, although shouldn't be fearful, just indifferent. With my little weirdo it depends on his mood, some days he's friendly to people and happy to have pats, other days he steers completely clear. He seems to think children are weird aliens and jogs ahead of them looking back over his shoulder with concern when they try to pat him  He's not a wimp though, he plays roughly with my Aussie Shepherd who is 3 times his weight and holds his own. Thy can be NOISY! I had heard this and thought I could manage it, but Riley barks ALOT! I wasn't strict enough from day 1 though, have other dogs who rile him up etc, so hopefully it wouldn't be a problem for your mum. Best of luck with the decision and the search :)
