  1. Oh no, how awful I hope they are (or already have been) found safe and sound soon. Of all the breeds to be lost in the bush at night
  2. Those diaries were awful. Did the story explain how where that footage came from?
  3. Naawww, you might have lost your mummy's girl there :D PS does he realise he is now also under the scrutiny of most of DOL?!?
  4. She is, and from what I've seen and read one of questionable ethics. Of course I want all animals to be cared for appropriately and agree that there need to be checks and balances to make sure people do the "right" thing, but from what I understand Debra Tranter accesses people's properly illegally, films without consent, provides ambiguous footage etc etc in the pursuit of her cause. In my mind as soon as that happens, the evidence is tainted. According to the story Kate Schoeffel admitted that she was not meeting the standards the organisation she founded (Australian Association of Pet Dog Breeders) have set and has withdrawn from the organisation. However I'm not sure the AAPDB standards are the ideal anyway - I haven't read them. It is unclear whether any laws were actually broken, though from the footage the facility looked ok to my inexpert eye. The story did mention that Ms Schroeder may not have provided the vet care she should have, which is very concerning if true. I'm all for animals being treated right but I don't think I'm for it at the expense of people rights to privacy and fair legal process.
  5. Oh Roo, gorgeous girl Jelly, you and Nek both think she's no better (maybe worse) on the meds so I agree, take her off them (not that I know anything about it ) Thinking of you
  6. But the person who appears to have brought the story to the press is Debra Tranter. I don't know what to believe
  7. Does anyone know what the name of the FB page is? I wonder if the poor little pooch has been found
  8. Yep, what Cos says. With a strong (physically and willed) dog like an Akita already 5 months old I wouldn't let it go any longer, get someone recommended to come and see in person what is happening and advise you.
  9. I don't know, I think managing is making her better. A lot of health issues, including mental, in humans and animals can't be completely "fixed" so we figure out the best way to manage them so that life is good. I know it feels like forever but like OSo says it will probably take a long time to figure out exactly what gets the best results, and she may well need to be "managed" for the rest of her life but you are getting closer to finding that point where she is fine and your own life is good xxx
  10. I looked through heaps of the daycare FB pics, soooo gorgeous! It looks like a great place. Love Roo's crazy ears in most of the photos
  11. Oh Jelly, that's great news! Very exciting :D and who could blame him for loving Roo, hehe.
  12. Interesting. Quinn must be 7 or 8 weeks after her first season and she has little boobies, and has been digging at the bed and couch lots. I don't think she's actually having a phantom but maybe a few little signs...
  13. Aww, lovely dog. She looks so happy :)
  14. Hall Vet, especially if it's still run by Geraldine. She is a trained animal behaviorist. When I took Saxon there she was working as a vet nurse, by the time I took Riley she had left to run her own training business but came back to do puppy school because she loved it :) The classes were well structured, play between puppies was only 2 at a time, matched in size and temp. Focussed on teaching +ve reinforcement training and shaping and lots of info about regular handling all over for health checks etc. With Quinn I went to Queanbeyan Vet, it was run by a young vet nurse to a set franchise-type curriculum. She was lovely but didn't have the knowledge to really explain the what, why and how of training. Play was also a bit of a free for all.
  15. It's addictive Jules... Miah will be a dog (no longer a puppy) before you know it and you'll miss that puppy breath  ... then you may get another puppy or two and say to yourself "what on earth was I thinking!?!"
  16. Oh a pure Maltese puppy, yay! Can't wait for the photos :) I have a poodle x malt, he's a great little dog. We've discussed on DOL before how unfortunately you don't see that many pure Maltese around these days so I'm excited to hear about and see your little one.
  17. Oh cute! It would be nice if the public knew how often the dedicated rescue folks organise such surrogate mums as all part of the job too though.
  18. Oh I think this must be to do with the crate, it wasn't me who donated it! That lovely DOLer remains anonymous, but definitely amazing. I just wanna meet Roo and Jelly :D
  19. Billy is lovely. It makes me laugh every time because Quinn would do exactly what he does in that situation (except she wouldn't have been told to do it )
  20. Aaawww, beautiful girl! Thank you for the photos :) If I'm ever in Melbourne I so want to arrange to meet her! (oh and you of course  )
  21. Ok, this isn't really news, but has anyone seen this ad? It has a Scottish (presumably) man wearing a kilt standing on a grassy hill overlooking the ocean as a gorgeous black and white Border Collie comes bounding up the hill towards him... Won't spoil the end for anyone who hasn't seen it but I think it's a brilliant ad, not only is the dog gorgeous but the ad is simple, clever and classy
  22. And they can fit through smaller spaces than you'd think! (or maybe as you say, get themselves stuck trying). I'd make the door big enough for both of them once puppy is old and big enough to use it safely. Once you are confident leaving them alone together I would expect them to work out their play and sleep schedule themselves whether they are inside, outside or both.
