  1. Oh he's starting to look so grown up already! at Sassy's elegant sleeping pose.
  2. Oh how awesome! I'll definitely go watch if I can!
  3. Hahaha, silly puppies :D Nova does not look impressed with his inadvertent swim! And Treble
  4. Oh that's a good one! That's the beauty of it, they get the food then they get to destroy stuff that I would have just thrown out anyway All I sacrifice is having a clean house for more than 2 minutes, hehe.
  5. kc, I have a feeling the bottle would be destroyed in an effort to get to the yummy stuff quickly here, patience is not Quinn's strong suit
  6. Keeshonds are gorgeous! I've only met two and they were lovely but quite stubborn, it was at obedience school and they were very capable of learning what they were meant to do but just as capable of deciding they didn't feel like doing right then :D I think a Collie Rough or Smooth would be easier to manage in your situation than an Aussie Shepherd, Aussie's can be pretty full on energy wise and are generally pretty destructive when young, out of curiosity I think, they seem to want to have a good feel, taste and destroy of everything. Mine loooooves kids but is way too rough with them, Collies seem less inclined to jump all over everyone
  7. When I'm going out at night I leave the dogs kibble in various empty food containers give them something to do. The food's always gone, and the containers mostly destroyed, when I get home but I've never watched them go through the process of getting all the food out. I decided to do the same tonight even though I'm home as I didn't get to take them out today so they were restless (and being annoying ). It's hilarious!! I used an empty water bottle, an empty peanut butter jar still with traces if pb, and the cardboard box from a wine cask. Quinn's pretty good at pushing the containers around so the kibble falls out and Saxon basically just followed behind her hoovering up the bits she didn't eat, but Riley's the funniest - his solution to getting kibble out of the wine box was to stick his whole head inside the open top and then lift his head up so the box is covering it but the kibble falls out past his head! Then he stumbled around with the box stuck on his head until he managed to pull it off with his paws and then finally got to eat the kibble on the floor
  8. Oh she's just beautiful. I hope she's found safe and sound soon
  9. Ah yep, the PetStock ones are dry and hard. Probably not quite as tasty but much more pleasant for us hoomans.
  10. I got Saxon an antler piece from PetStock to try, he's not into bones and it shows on his teeth but he liked the antler! It didn't go smelly for me either. May have to try them for everyone but I'll look online, the bigger ones for the other dogs will be pricey at PetStock.
  11. Aww, pile of sleepy Pugs, too cute. Quinn and one of her sisters saw each other regularly at the dog park, probably once a fortnight on average at least, from about 5 or 6 months old until we moved when they were 18 months (to the other side of town so not too far, hopefully we will still see each other). Anyhoo, Quinn reacted differently to Cleo than she she did to other Aussies, it was funny because it was like as soon as her little sis was around Quinn would turn into the big grown up sister who would neeeeeever act silly, and look at poor Cleo in disgust when she tried to start games  Mind you, whenever Cleo wasn't there Quinn did and still does, run around being just as annoying and silly :D The last few months, as they got older, they starte playing together much more, and working together a bit more against other dogs they were playing with, Quinn must have finally decided Cleo was grown up enough to be her friend *eye roll* Oh, just to be clear, they are litter sisters and the whole litter was born in a couple of hours I believe, so it's not like Quinn really was older!
  12. Thanks for the tip Nushie and TJ, I've set up this kind of arrangement inside in my new place until I get the outside area appropriately fenced for the dogs to toilet. They are adults and were toilet trained to take themselves outside thru a doggy door, but then two were kenneled for 7 weeks, and as I said we're not set up yet for them to take themselves out, so they were picking where ever they decided was good to toilet. I set them up with a plastic tub lid with pee pads and a towel they'd already decided to pee on over the top, and voila! Two days later and they're using it reliably :) Soooo much easier than puppies (but not quite as cute :D )
  13. I think it's embedded in General now, good luck to any newcomers seeking sensible dog advice
  14. A lot of them are pretty good! I like the Aussie Shep and Sheltie ones
  15. Great photo Jules! Happy birthday gorgeous Renae! Lovely girl in a lovely family :)
  16. Small animal wise, i would make sure any dog was kept well separated from small animals, but yes, I can see how a herding breed would have less prey drive than a gun dog so definitely something to consider :)
  17. All the Rough Collies I've met have been beeeautiful dogs, physically and temperament wise! Although STD Poodles are lovely too... I've found Collies to be slightly "softer" I guess, and more sedate, as in mire interested in hanging out with each other and their family than investigating other dogs. I've never owned either but have a poodle x Maltese and a Sheltie so grooming wise I'd suggest a Collie would be much easier. Although you'd have less hair around the place with a Poodle! I think exercise wise either would be ok in your situation, both are smart and active but both can chill when neccessary. I like Lagottos (Lagotti?) too but the few I've met have seemed a bit more timid than the other breeds. I imagine they would need more grooming than a Collie, slightly less than a Poodle as the coat is a bit looser I believe. Really, I don't think you can go wrong with choosing whichever of these breeds you like best!
  18. Agree, sympathies to his family however I certainly wouldn't leap to the conclusion that the dogs (or their breed) are defining factor in his death.
  19. Oh Peace, joy and no pain at the Bridge for an amazing old boy who I'm sure did just as much for his owner as his lovely owner did for him.
  20. Nice :D Shall check with my parents but I've never heard them mention Amelia Earhart. I do have red hair! I don't think they dyed it for me tho
  21. House mistress of a school for gifted young ladies who moonlights as a witch. Antoinette Edgewood is totally the young wife of a British Earle who tragically died after falling from the turrets of the castle he finished building before her just before he left for war. I want something good for my not very exciting one (based on the first street name I remember): Amelia Goulburn
  22. My personal feeling, after some consideration, is that this is just a thing that happened. Dogs being dogs, humans being humans and no one doing anything against the law or even particularly wrong. Sometimes dogs run up to other dogs, sometimes dogs react to other dogs, nearly always as humans in public with our dogs we need to manage situations. In this case, you managed your dogs, the other owner managed their dog, there obviously were some scares but everyone was ok and hopefully there are no after effects. ETA - snap haven!
  23. chris, I hope you stick around, it's pity DOL baggage from past threads got brought into yours thread. You're asking questions, getting good advice and taking it on board and trying to figure out what's best for the dogs so I agree with you, there shouldn't be a problem. DOL can be a bit tricky until you get used to it, many passionate people and of course limited info about each other available just based on what we say here so sometimes it gets heated. There really is so much great info and advice here though so try to ignore the personal comments and keep doing what you've been doing!
