  1. Well done mogda, keep at it and you'll get there! Consistency is definitely the key
  2. I moved with my three a few months ago from a house with a small yard, but big enough for them to get a run going, to this place, with no yard apart from a balcony sized area I've fenced off outside so they can go outside when I'm home (not secure/safe enough to leave them out there when I'm not) - definitely not ideal but through life circumstances here we are for now! I walk them in the am and take them to the off lead park for a run in the evenings and they have clear floor space in the living room to play with each other like idiots a lot of the time when they're inside (less of an issue with only one dog). It's do-able, they're happy and healthy, but the house is certainly not something to be proud of and TBH it can be a pain in the ass for me not being able to kick them outside when they still have energy to burn, and I'm sure they'd rather have a yard to play in when I'm not home. This place works for now because I sacrifice any sense of house-proudness and spend most of my non-work time keeping them entertained but I'll definitely be looking at moving when I can. My point is you could well make it work but if you have a different option where you can keep the space I'd recommend it...
  3. And nor should you have to divulge your entire personal life details, sheesh! I agree with those who said it depends on the the dog. Some dogs do seem to bond very closely to one person/family at a time, which is not to say they can't be rehomed and successfully bond to their new person, but that type of dog probably would find it stressful and confusing to have their previous 'person' coming and going. I think dogs that are pretty easy going and comfortable around all sorts of people could adjust very well. I agree with dogmad (I think?) who said to leave the dog to settle for a couple of months without visiting so he understands that he has a new home and people, but after that visits would probably be along the lines of visits from a well liked walker, trainer, groomer etc. I do think it would be hard on you, as you would have to accept that he'd only be happy if he was more bonded to the people he was now living with than to you. If it turns out to be your best option you could definitely try it but you would have to be very aware that you may have to cut ties if he wasn't happy in the situation.
  4. WOW some harsh judgement in this thread! Maybe SamMan is trying to consider ALL options and asked the question to see whether this may even be one at all. Looking into the option of possible rehoming is hardly the worst thing a person can do to a dog.
  5. So cute that he'd love that as a present :)
  6. Thanks everyone for the input, it's looking like the dog won't need to go to rescue after all, yay :)
  7. I agree Mogda, you are doing a great job with your little terror! She is gorgeous :) You are getting lots of good advice, but as you've seen there is soooo much information out there and lot is conflicting so it can definitely be overwhelming. I'd just suggest for now you take on what make sense to you and what is feasible for you to do, and once you've had the trainer come in and actually work with you and puppy in person you will hopefully have a much clearer plan for your individual situation. Don't give up, you'll get there!
  8. Beautiful. The photos must be so precious to owners. Tears here too.
  9. Ah, thanks griff, I hadn't even thought of the clubs. I'll try the rescues too :)
  10. Tried posting in Rescue and Rotti threads but trying here to reach a wider audience - does anyone know of a Rotti rescue that I could talk to fairly urgently about a Rotti in the Canberra region? Doesn't appear to be anyone local but if anyone knows of someone i could cotact I'd very appreciative. Thanks.
  11. See this is the trouble with trying to express the sounds in our heads in writing  There was once a thread about how people pronounce DOL/DOLers, that produced a surprising range of different answers!
  12. Well yes, but that's kinda the point, W in German appears to be pronounced differently to English also :)
  13. Ah, see that does sound like "Rott-vwyler" to me, like kc said.
  14. I've seen it written, I thought if might be "slof-fee" Glad I never said it out loud!
  15. So BlackJaq do you mean it's not actually pronounced Rott-vy-ler?
  16. Hi guys, Anyone know someone involved in Rotti rescue in Canberra or nearby that I could contact fairly urgently? Thank you :)
  17. Awww, that is pretty darn adorable :)
  18. This is how I pronounce it and people always look at me like I am stupid ! Thank you ! Same  You see their brain ticking over for a few seconds, then it sinks in what I have said and they just move on. I know it actually is vy-ler but is why-ler forgivable? They already think I'm weird just for that!!
  19. Pyroknees Since another one of these threads where Rotti people confirmed that it's Rott-why-ler not Rott-wheeler I can only say that way even though everyone I work with says Rott-wheeler. I think they think I'm weird Oh, we do actually work with dogs, not just chat about Rottis a lot :)
  20. Oh I didn't realise Basset was "bassay", although makes sense coz it's French, thanks! I think Lowchen is just "low chen"... :) And Keeshond is "kays hond"
