How Can I Stop A Dog From Going Through Our Bump Gate?
Simply Grand replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh dwilds, tough situation. I actually think a secure run of suitable size might be best for this dog. If he's wandering, killing other animals and won't respond to you I think it's only a matter of time until that is ordered or you have mi choice and he is ordered to be put down. I'm sorry But could you build a secure area to keep him and take him out for activity once a day on a suitable chain/harness? -
Exactly! Lots of knowledgeable poodle people on here and the poodle thread is pretty active. I have a poodle x, awesome dog, my heart dog! And from what I've seen very typical dog behaviour, he doesn't know he's small and fluffy and responds fantastically when treated with the same principles as any other dog. Yay for your mum, exciting. Edited because you should have seen what my phone wrote.

Puddleduck, febreeze for BO is brilliant!

I've used napisan oxy action in warm water, scrubbed with damp cloth to get rid of both poo and spew stains. Has worked pretty well, but my carpet is old and synthetic, not sure what it would do to a better carpet. Naughty beagle, stay out of the dried fruit!!

RP hahaha Mr Funkypants, that's the cutest thing ever. Perfect name for a very dignified cat :D I really like the name Tyce Diorio, he's a choreographer on a US tv show and I think the name has a great ring and could be good for a dog... I dont particularly like just Tyce tho so I don't know if I'd ever use it. I agree, pics and personality of Rhys needed.

My step brother reckons he and his partner stopped their cattle dog mix licking by grabbing his tongue and holding onto it whenever he tried. Apparently it worked but when we tried it on Saxon his tongue was to little and too quick! Could work on a GR tongue though I you're game!

Oooh... That's lovely. A tear or two here

STOP IT! Aussie's are still top of my wish list but I'm supposed to be resisting another dog any time soon, especially a bigger dog in my little house... But I know wuffles's Ava isn't THAT much bigger than my dogs... Maybe if I get a girl... which I probably would have anyway... Oh and I've seen the Aussie in that ad, he does seem quite solid. I don't know if he's a good eg of the breed standard but he's very cute :D

Thanks for answering so well dobes I think I've said on here before that I'm really lucky not to have seen real damage done between dogs as yet, you obviously have which must be terrifying. I do see your point. I think our ACT system of basically dogs should always be leashed apart from designated dog areas (ie not roads, not walking paths, not family parks, play areas etc) is quite good as at least it is very clear what the responsibility is.

Question About Havanese And Coton De Tulear
Simply Grand replied to kenneh's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just googled Cotons! They are gorgeous!! But I can think of many other breeds more likely to be in a cross in a pound than one of them -
But dobes, what do you mean he wouldn't be ok with it? How do you think he would react? Or I guess what are you trying to avoid happening when you stop the other dog? And any dog at all that gallopped up to you? Young, old, big, small? I'm not saying you're wrong by yelling at them by any means, tho I'm not sure about kicking before any altercation has occurred, but each to their own I suppose. I'm just trying to understand. Oh and I certainly don't let my dogs charge up to dogs being walked and I don't think they would anyway but they have done it as puppies when off leash. Edited for clarity.

easy, the rude owners of the rude dogs would say it shouldn't be there. My nervous old girl did love her walks but those rude dogs did have the potential to ruin it for her, hence my carrying a riding crop and using it. Off lead area near a river = free for all. ETA I gave up walking this dog cause there were just too many idiots to contend with. She made do with runs with the greyhounds at the slipping track ;) Hang on, does the above mean that you would walk your girl in an off lead area, and if another dog ran up to her to "say hello" (yes rude but with no aggression) you would hit the other dog with the riding crop?

Oh No! I've Been Lulled Into A False Sense Of Security
Simply Grand replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
Is Lucy your little Pom? If she got on the dining table when Saxon can't he should be embarrassed! When I'm out they are both restricted by the Bunnings compost cage things which they don't seem to be able to jump. I'll see how they go, if it becomes a problem I do have the option to install doors in certain areas but I suspect they won't be needed. If I get a larger dog in this house may be needed, but quite possible. -

I know, right! He was on the dining chair again tonight, I growled at him 'no get down' and he did. He is pretty willing to learn. But super clever! -
Dog Laws In The Australian Capital Territory
Simply Grand replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
I actually think a good legal argument could be made that having a 'beware of the dog' sign bought from a shop is not any sort of legally enforceable admission that a dog is known to be dangerous. But it unfortunately would cost money (and possibly the dog's life) to argue it so I probably wouldn't, although I would applaud someone who fought against the sign being used against their dog! -
More just now on Seven News, there had been previous complaints and the man's three dogs have been seized before. There was a dangerous dog warning sign on the gate. Apparently 2 of the dogs were involved in the attack, all 3 now seized. I think this is a case where at least the two that did the damage this time, possibly all three if the other has attacked before should be PTS. The owner seems to have quite a few screws loose and should not have dogs!!

This was just on Syndey's 10 News. Apparently the woman was just walkin past the property, the dog came out and bit her 5 times on her legs. They showed the bites, they were quite bad, at least one was an open wound that needed several stitches. The dog's owner was yelling and charging at the press and throwing their equipment around. His excuse for the dog attacking: "when he sees dark people...he doesn't like dark people". The victim looked to me like she had olive toned skin, may have been middle eastern??

I let my younger cat jump up on the table to escape the dogs as he's pathetic at fighting them off when they jump all over him. He's up there now and I was just adjusting his collar when suddenly Riley was up there sticking his pointy nose in. I pushed him away... then it registered that he was up on the table Cheeky monkey, he jumped on a chair then up to the table to see what was happening. Saxon can make it onto the bed and the couch but not much else. I think it's in his head because he couldn't do it when he was a puppy as he was so small and he actually could get over the small baby gate and onto other things now - he's jumped into the car when he's excited but normally waits to be lifted in as he thinks he can't do it. Seems Riley doesn't have the same mental block!

Dog Laws In The Australian Capital Territory
Simply Grand replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ktb I'm thinking putting up signs saying 'Close the Gate' and 'Don't let dogs out' or 'Dogs on premises' (can you get those?) might be more effective if people are coming and going anyway. Not saying people are silly ;) but some may not actually make the connection to make sure the gates are closed from a Beware of the Dog sign. -
I voted Zuko. I also like Pepper and Caddy. I think I would like Percy or Arrow for some dogs but not a CKCS for some reason.

What made people think it was Dr Chris talking?

I seriously doubt she actually got that advice from 5 vets. Wouldn't be surprised if she didn't get any vet advice at all. What a stupid, selfish, totally unnecessary thing to do
