  1. Dasha there is no way I'm after a "free Aussie Shep". I have my own, along with other animals and have no interest whatsoever in taking someone else's. If I did I wouldn't post about it on the Internet. I'm not going to explain the full possible course of action that I, percy and percy's friend might take should it turn out that the dog is not microchipped but don't lose sleep about me trying to steal someone's dog.
  2. I know there has been discussion on here about having found dogs at home rather than taking them to the pound but I don't think it's illegal...I'll take the risk if need be anyway. Personally I'd much rather my dogs be in someone's home than a pound, so long as they were trying to find their owner. I also agree about tags, again people on here talk about the risk of injury from collars, which is fair enough I guess, but I feel the risk of them getting out is higher and I'd rather they have my number and address on them. Having said that, they can slip collars, chew through, just been washed etc etc. I'm confident you'll find an owner by microchip :) but if not, happy to help.
  3. Oh no! From what I understand there are not too many dodgy Aussie breeders around so hopefully there is a microchip!! Good on you and your friend for trying to help. Hopefully you'll get a hit from here if not a microchip, if not please PM me, I'll check throughout tomorrow. I'm in Canberra but I can probably arrange to come get him/her to look after I need be, I have an Aussie here and could manage to put up another one ;) Fingers crossed owner will be found ASAP!
  4. I wish my Sheltie would put his barking to good use like Jack!! What a cutie :) I do think from the pics it's quite possible he's a Collie x Pom, or something else rather than a Sheltie, but who knows.
  5. This is the most comprehensive thread I've seen on DOL! I think we could just cover every topic in this thread and not have any others. 30 pages down, 50 here we come (without anyone making it go poof) :D I don't have kids but I have been known to open a bottle of water whilst shopping when I was really thirsty... Then pay for the half finished bottle at the end with everything else...probably good that I don't have kids to corrupt in such a manner ;)
  6. I have some bags of sheep fleece on the spare room that I'm storing for mum, whenever I go in there the dogs come in and sniff around VERY interested! I can only imagine the the scene if they got in there without me, wool all over the house in 2 minutes flat I reckon! And I'm sure the Sheltie and the Aussie Shepherd would be very proud of themselves for sorting out those sheepies (eye roll)
  7. So funny!! I'm impressed with these dogs that remember to fake a limp. Love the stepping on a bit of food and the tan bark in the toes
  8. This How much better would that be than: For a start it gives buyers an idea of what things their pups SHOULD come with. And getting price out of the way deals with tyre kickers and lets buyers know what they are in for. And this! Like alpha bet said, it's not just about finding good homes for individual puppies, it's about raising awareness of pedigree purebred dogs as a "brand" and "selling" the benefits to the public, exactly like Telida said. The more exposure of the "brand" and the associated terminology, not so much just registered, registered pedigree purebred, health tested etc etc (as per Telida's eg above) the more the public would see these dogs as a realistic, and eventually hopefully the best, option for buying a puppy. As has been said again and again the general public don't know and/or aren't necessarily interested in the ANKC code of ethics and associated breeding practices as it relates to them getting a puppy but most pet buyers are interested in the welfare of animals and good value for them.
  9. Does this make 30 pages?!? I was jokingly going to say on saturday at 15 pages, when it looked like the thread was dying down, can we make it to 30? And here we are :)
  10. Bullish, that's a great photo! :) Um, is the dog wearing pants??
  11. New discovery, Riley just watched the cartoon squirrel thing in the end sequence in Ice Age with complete fascination! I could see his eyes following it around the screen, then when it finished he went up to the tv to look for it :D
  12. Saxon will watch most larger animals, dogs and horses he barks at. Haha I had just types that when ad for Fancy Feast with a bunch of cats came on, I pointed at the tv and told Sax to look, he saw them, ran over and barked at them. Riley responds more to the sounds, when I have the sound system on Riley looks at the middle speaker am head tilts when there are animal sounds. Quinn doesn't seem to have favorites yet but she definitely looks at dogs on tv. Interesting about the eye shape/set, both Saxon and Quinn have clearly been able to recognize animals on tv and follow them around the screen from when they first came home but Riley doesn't really seem to do it and he has a much longer snout and his eyes are smaller and set more to the side than the others.
  13. Yay Paula and kody! Keep doing what you are doing and don't stress about set backs, sounds like you are doing great :)
  14. See my problem is I have very specific cravings, I have both chocolates and ice-cream in the house at the moment, but now I specifically want a block of chocolate, or now that you mention it tsd, cookies and cream ice cream so the others don't seem good Wine on the other hand, well wine is wine!
  15. Oh and I prefer cheese but wouldn't mind some chocolate right now ;)
  16. I like this thread, it's great! Plenty of interesting points raised. BUT poor Liz, I don't think I've ever seen what the OP has actually said being taken out of context so much as in this thread... Ok well maybe in the burning building thread...
  17. Maybe it's the wet weather... We're all going stir crazy and it's resulting in super long threads that start on one topic and wind up as philosophical debates about life...
  18. Even though this thread has gone all over the place and has become a bit weird for general dog discussion, I've found it really interesting reading people's different points of view! I like kids, especially babies, they generally like me, I don't have any, would quite like to but don't know if I'll have the opportunity. I hadn't really thought much about other people's feelings towards kids and their reasons for feeling how they do, probably because I don't have any, but this thread is a good reminder that you can't assume how other people react, think and feel towards any one else really, or why.
  19. It's totally cute! Nothing more cheerful than a waggy tail dog :) It does make me smile. There's a Supercoat ad showing a Goldie growing up with his family from baby puppy to old man which makes me smile too.
  20. I can't see the subtitle on iPhone, is this the if you're happy and you know it wag your tail ad??
  21. I was going to say pretty much what you said emgem, it makes biological sense to me for humans to value the lives of our own species over those of another species. I already said my other reason for believing I would try to save the life of an unknown child over my much loved pets, however much I love my pets it is highly likely that they will die before I do so I will have to deal with losing them. Parents should not have to deal with outliving their children, I know it does happen but if I had a chance to try and stop it I would.
  22. Aussie3 I thought that about the weight too! Sounds like they've had him for 2 years, how is it still overfeeding by the previous owners? Pollywaffle, I wonder about why too. Usually people will say we're moving etc especially with older dogs. The poor dogs sound like they've been passed around a bit already, I hope they find a nice forever home now.
