Gorgeous pics! Love looking at pics of other Samoyeds - dont visit the Spitz page very often cos I'm a bit bias and would rather just see sammys!

I totally agree with Bindii but I will add something. First what are you using to brish him with? The wrong tools will actually cause pain and make your job harder. And second were are you grooming him? I suggest getting him up on a table if you are not already, it will make it much harder for him to run off on you Thanks for all your tips! I read in the grooming area yesterday that some people have been using their coffee tables so I gave it a try - massive success! No treats necesarry and got at least 10 minutes of brushing in before he wanted to go play (chase..) the cats. I'm using brushes supplied to me by the breeder - figured it would be the safest bet to purchase them from there rather than try and source what would probably be wrong. I'm currently using a Prestige pin brush, a slicker and a wide tooth comb (not sure what brands they are). Is there a particular brush I should use more than the others? In a certain order?

Hey everyone! Hope everyone's Sammys are doing great! Baccus has just been in for his snip and hasnt slowed down for a second! While the men around me are cringing when I talk about it, my boy is bouncing around with joy (minus a few bald spots!) Obviously I'm trying to keep him as quiet as possible until he's healed a bit Does anyone have any grooming tips for me? I find I can distract him for about 10mins with a treat and manage to get half of him done, so its a slow process (don't worry, I knew what I was getting myself in for and we sit down every day for a quick brush to stay on top of it!!) I have read through the grooming section on the forum, just hoping for some breed specific tips Julie pic of my boy pre-yawn!

Congrats finalflash! I definitely am glad I picked a sammy, he's utterly gorgeous and so mild mannered! We are currently working through our obedience training, and seems to be going ok so far!

Hi I have a 14 week old sammy who has been on Royal Canin from the breeder, he recommended I soak 1/2 cup for at least 2 hours in for morning and night feeds for about 2 months, then simply add a bit of water when serving - by the time he's 12 months he will be on 2cups a day of Royal Canin in one meal. I'll attach below my breeder's recommendations for feeding my sammy:- He is on Royal Canin – Medium Junior and about ½ a cup both morning and night at the moment. You will need to increase this slowly as he gets older. As an adult (12months) he will only be on 1 meal a day and should be only getting 2 cups a day. This will be plenty for him. He should weigh as an adult no more than 25-27kg. If you are going to continue with the premium food you really shouldn’t mix his food and give him fresh meat. The problem if you do is that you tend to upset the balance of the actual formula of the food. The premium foods are a complete diet and you really don’t need to feed anything else. You need to pre-soak his food for about the next 2 months and then you can go onto giving it to him just with the water on his dinner. Never feed him just dry without the water. You will do this forever. As for bones they are fine on a once a month basis as they do need them for their teeth but they are very fatty. NEVER give cooked bones, only raw. You can also give him chicken necks from now on if you want. 1 a week would be fine on top of his dinner. Obviously your pup is a little older, but I hope this can be of some benefit (or perhaps I've been led astray and there's more advice for me? LOL)

Thanks, I really like the name too - I was tossing up between Nanuq or Baccus and decided on the later!! I bought him from Peter Hill of Samloch Samoyeds and he has the best temperament (I can only compare him to my previous housemates Staffy tho! lol)

Congratulations on taking the plunge. You will have to put photos up for us to see your little boy. Any name picked out for him? 5 days in and things are going great (touch wood) We decided to call him Baccus and have been getting mixed reactions to that but he responded to it almost instantly (unlike my cats....) and is very placid (the best way we can describe him). he loves nothing more than to sit back and take it all in for now. Will try and upload a couple of pics - first is from the breeder and another couple taken on a mobile phone (definitely need to get the camera out and take more before he grows anymore)

Hi guys I'm looking at purchasing a Samoyed in the next couple of weeks and have found this website very helpful! Any advice you could offer me? I am a first time dog owner but have my heart set on a Samoyed - yes, i did actually contemplate a cross (designer??) breed, but fortunately I saw the light! Does anyone know much about the various breeders? I have been in talks with Janoby Kennels as they have two litters ready to go in November. Thanks in advance! Julie
