Mine would fit the bill, but you cant be sure with all which is why i say rescue so you know what you are getting. You sound like you have a lot going on uni/work and puppies are a hell of a lot of work and honestly i dont enjoy them so i am biased. Plus they become less destructive at around 2 in my opinion. I think the wont start a fight but will finish it is really because if they want to hurt a dog they can. I have far more issues with small dogs at the dog park, training and general walks but they stand no chance of hurting my big staffy so no one really cares, but if my staffy bites them its off to the vet for them. You really need a bomb proof staffy for the dog park.

I think if dog friendly is really important, id be getting an adult. With any breed you just cant know. And as mentioned stafford rescue vic are great and from them some are papered if thats important too

Totally agree. My beautiful Cougar is from them & she is just so sweet & nice natured. About the weight, Cougar is an older lady & weighs 17kg, but I have put her on a diet, as I don't want to put strain on her legs by being overweight. How do you go in VIC with the BSL and a rescue? Are they papered or have they passed some sort of "test"? Or are the council people able to come and knock on your door at any stage and take them? (genuine question) I rescue staffy xs, i havent actually been asked yet but i keep the release papers from the pound which is after the laws came in. You can get a vet to testify the dog is not a pitt bull. But it really depends on the council. There are a few i wouldnt rehome to. My council just make me sign a form saying they are not a restricted breed when i register them. I dont think they have ever looked in the back yard as i have 3 dogs and the 3rd is registered to MIL as one is a foster so my small white fluffy is registered to her. The staffys i keep registered to me as it is life and death the registration is right.

Are you sure? That sounds enormous. I think my girl is around the 14-16 kgs mark Im sure they vary between sexes but 25 kgs sounds way over. I could be wrong, I have a 24kg male Stafford Breed standard for SBT is 11 -17 kgs so 24 kgs is way oversize or extremely fat. He's not extremely fat :) But a little bit fat. Time for you & your doggy to start jogging around the block. :laugh: LOL, cheeky bugger, he's not fat at all :laugh: He is big, and very very old....I think his jogging days are over! My boy is 23kgs, obviously not to the standard but he is a pet so who cares. He is not at all over weight but is the most ripped stafford i have ever seen and he is too tall. Not all pure breds meet the standard i thought, could be wrong as i am a rescue person so dont know much about breeding He also eat twice the recommended food, but i think the weight and food is all to do with the muscle. The vet always comments on how healthy he is.

Id try staffordshire bull terrier rescue vic. If you get an adult you can be sure they are dog social and that rescue is fantastic.

Vegans and vegetarians get defensive because they get questioned and challenged constantly. And teased a lot. In the 20+ years I was a vego I didn't once tell someone that they shouldn't eat meat but had to deal with people constantly trying to trip me up. Did I use leather etc etc I wouldn't eat a humanely raised and killed cow. I feed meat to my dogs. And I fed meat to the hubby. A friend used to give me bones from her cows, humanely raised and killed. I struggled more feeding those bones than I did the ones from the supermarket. As I knew the cows. I was a vego because I am a sook though not because of any environmental issues. You are going to get different answers to your question depending on why the person is a vego/vegan. Agree with this! I've been vegetarian for 26 years and have had countless people who, for some reason or another, think it is their right to question or challenge my choice not to eat meat. Like you, not once have I attempted to force my views on to anyone else. Whether the next person chooses to eat meat or not is not my concern, and I have no interest in questioning others why they do eat meat. Those that choose not to eat certain foods should not be made to feel as if they need to justify their choice. Fortunately though it has become more accepted, compared to when I first became vegetarian, and I find not as many people question it now. Very well said. I never bring the topic up but it seems to be a constant conversation in my life. Your correct vegetarian people are dealing better with but not vegan.

Well that's great that you would rather have gelati than basic nutrition but not really relevant to this discussion. A dog would not choose gelati over what's hard wired into their brain to eat if they are hungry. It's not rocket science and has nothing to do with what people personally dont like. Dogs are omnivores. Their gut is designed for that. Eat what you like but dont impose it on your dog or cat, which you have said you dont so good for you. Anyone who does is a boring hipster if they're just doing it for fad rather than health reasons, and I would call them an animal abuser. One of them has a rescue dog, who is not fed a vegan diet. I have no problem with vegans choosing to have pets, but if they cannot handle feeding them meat as part of an appropriate diet, there are pets that are vegetarian/vegan....... And how is that not a reason? It is what nature intended them to eat, and they can't make a choice as we can. They have to eat what is put in front of them, appropriate or not. Because nothing about the domestic dog is as nature would have it. If you live in an apartment is that not ok for a dog as nature would have them live outside? If they are happy and healthy whats the problem?

that's interesting. What about captive animals in zoos? Carnivores like wolves, and seals etc. Do you think they should be fed only vegetables? Carnivores are different. As everyone has said all the way though this topic

I think its sad your kids don't get to chose themselves I editted they get to chose when they are old enough. But i see it as me forcing them to kill if i feed them meat when they cant chose Husband who eats meat agrees, because he is informed on the topic and he admits he has no good reason to eat it, he just likes it.

I believe killing is only ok for survival. Humans in the western world no longer need to eat meat so i dont beliee in killing anything for food. Certainly not for clothes or make up etc I have already decided my kids will be vegan because there is no good reason for them to not be. They can chose to when they are old enough to understand what they are deciding IMHO no one has provided no one has provided a good reason on here for dogs to eat meat. I dont count because thats what nature intended a reason.

Vegan is basically cruelty free lifestlye, we treat both cows and chickens horridly here in order to make maximum profit. Treating animals ethically is not a way to make mone as most dogs breeders will tell you hence why most ethical breeders make no money

Yes! About the protein, we can get all we need from other sources and it's not inferior. Completely agree with sas. But i would feed vegan through personal choice if i thought the research was there to back it. A few years ago that may not have been true but conversation with meat eaters and their arguments have convinced me, the lack of valid statements or any real facts behind their beliefs and statements such as crazy "hipster" have convinced me im right

If i could pick between vegies or gelati for dinner as a child it would be the gelati, doesnt mean anything just that a dog cant make an informed decision, no suprises there. If someone knows what they are doing there is no issues having a vegan dog, and no one so far has come up with a legimate reason not to, other than they personally dont like it but we live is Australia so unless the dog is suffering thts not valid.

We constantly impose our views on our children and pets. Pets couldnt give 2 hoots if they dont get meat so long as they like what they are being feed. We impose that they not have litters on pets all of the time, havent seen too many upset about that. The skinny pale argument is another factless argument. It basically says to me all the meat eaters you know are fat and red faced, apparently that is healthier??

I agree with cats that they will not thrive. But the body runs on nutrients not meat if the nutrients are replaced by another source they will thrive. The reason for it being difficult is nutrients from different sources are absorbed differently so the amount required varies and there isnt a lot of good unbiased research on this in relation to dogs. Mainly because meat eaters are the majority and it is acceptable for meat eaters to make sweeping statements like i believe this with absolutely so facts to back me up so i will say its whats natural and end of conversation. When there is absolutely nothing natural about the meat we eat today.

Dogs are omnivores like ppl, so they can be healthy on a vegan diet but you have got to be very careful. Cats are carnivores and therefore cannot be feed a vegan diet. Any group that promotes cats eating vegan makes me suss. The resources that say maybe ok for dogs, hell no for cats are the resources to listen to. They have the most balanced arguments I am vegan and the prejudice against vegans is huge so reliable info is hard to come by. Easiest way I have found to filter internet based research is if it says vegetarian ok vegan bad, the person doesnt know what they are talking about as a vegan diet is healthier than vegetarian. How that transfers to pets im not sure but the same would be true. Just before someone rips into me my dogs eat meat

I think the main thing to keep in mind is that a lot of groups may knock you back but it doesn't mean they all will. I got knocked back when we first tried to adopt our dogs several times. They gave us reasons, we addressed those reasons and still got a no. This was a few different groups. The more your willing to work with your dog the less important who you adopt the dog from is. The reality for us and I am sure I'll get critised for this, is that we were going to accept anything the dog did so long as he wasn't really aggressive or really sick. So we just went the pound route. I take fosters now and basically every single one I have adopted out has gone to a family that has been unable to adopt from a big group for a variety of reasons none I would call deal breakers though. for example Wanted a Staffy but had children under 12 Had never ever owned a dog before Lived in a retirement village Too young (Was 22) SO be patient and just keep applying you will find your dog eventually
