That's not true - The Victorian rangers, they can go onto any property to get a dangerous dog. They can't go inside a human dwelling place without a warrant. So if the dogs are not in the house, they can go get them.

Cu For Anxious Dogs And Also Impulse Control
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to Loreley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
hankdog "doll" sounds very similar to "dog". And "good job" sounds almost the same as "good dog"... Not sure what my hockey team mates make of me yelling "yes yes yes" when someone is doing a good sequence of play. -
Cu For Anxious Dogs And Also Impulse Control
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to Loreley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I made an LAT mistake - which my dog truly took advantage of... She is nuts about the lawnmower man, so I tried to use LAT to get her to be more calm when he was around but my reward timing was off, so she figured, "carry on like a pork chop, stop look at mum, and I get a treat - repeat"... She backchained the pork chop with the calm behaviour... Arrrghh. So now she gets a pat for being calm and an increased distance if she pork chops. And things are getting better. -

CU - you mean Control Unleashed? I thought you'd found some miracle based on copper supplements -
Obedience & Rally-o

pardon my complete ignorance but what is FOOs? Is that like a mock trial - that is like a real trial but doesn't count for titles? What does the FOO stand for. (google was not my friend). -
ANKC says you can't do it. And RSPCA recommends against it. But I think people still can. It's a pity anyone thinks this is a good idea.

I don't know what the WA rules are but the SA rules are Dogs must be on lead on public footpaths including bike paths. Dogs must not harass people or animals including other dogs and wildlife. If the person isn't apologetic and doesn't do anything to sort the situation - I'd report them. I'd also report them if I thought the dog was in danger by crossing the road. Ie a busy road. But if the dog is essentially friendly and the road is quiet, then I would say hi and keep walking.

I'm not surpised someone took action into their own hands when the legal system failed. But there's a lot of people die in the illegal drug industry - that has nothing to do with dogs. There was another one near Mount Gambier last week. Illegal drugs but not dogs. The Underbelly series would be quite different if it involved more dogs.

Obedience & Rally-o
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to BrigadoonRose's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Rally is probably good for starting out, because you can talk to your dog and praise lots. Obedience - it's more formal and restrictive, you can only praise your dog between exercises - which can be quite far apart. -

Some of those little magpies just really push their luck. Especially the newly fledged ones. Meanwhile in my back yard the wattle birds are collecting the dog fur I've been removing from the evil hound - because it seems spring and shedding season has come early.

So for the novice toenail clipper/sander what attachment device thingy do you use with the dremmel.. it seems to have gazillions of the little thingies... And do they get hot, how long can you apply before it gets hot? Not that I'd get longer than half a second. Is the stone or diamond file thingy better than the sand paper thingy? Ie does a dog's claw just wreck sandpaper? -
Here We Go Again, This Time Sa's Turn?
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think this is right - not in SA anyway. Depending where you live - you can burn rubbish on your place - or not. Own more than two dogs, or not. Have horses or not. Have chooks or not. Build a granny flat - or not. Put solar panels on your front verandah or not. Park a car in the street - or not. etc etc. -

This is the how to dremmel a dog's claws article http://www.doberdawn.com/doberdawn/dremel.html SG process for getting them used to a dremmel... put dremmel (switched off) next to their dinner. dog eats dinner... Repeat a few dinners. Switch dremmel on... let dog eat dinner while dremmel is on. No messing with claws yet. you might have to start with the dremmel further away and gradually move it closer over a few dinners. with dremmel off - play the touch the claw and get a treat game. hold still, touch claw, get a treat... there's two keys to this game - dog that wriggles trying to get treat - does not get treat until is sitting still... repeat game with dremmel switched on near by then closer... etc. message to self - get on with it. got sock stockings, got dremmel like thing, got dog, and dinner and lots of treats... -
http://k9pro.com.au/services/puppy-development-schedule/ Could be in something Steve Courtney calls "puppy fear period". Pretty normal for puppy his age. Best overcome with lots of safe supervised visits with other friendly dogs and puppies. Litter mates can be good and bad - considering they start life as competitors for resources, and that can get a bit brutal depending on how available the resources are (mum's milk). Litter mates often fight a lot over everything. My dog as a puppy had a very strong affinity for other farm dogs, she was especially keen on ones that looked like her, but I expect she knew they weren't related by the way they smelled.

New Dogs Lack Of Response
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to Zoro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
How long have you had him? It could be he's just looking for his previous people. It might be that you need a program like "ruff love" or NILIF - ie no off lead time and all unsupervised time in a crate - for about a month - so he gets a handle on your new ground rules and adapts to the fact that you're his people now and all good things come from you. Hearing test - my dog can hear the sound of the fridge door being opened at 100 paces, and she knows what I take out of it too. -

My dog hasn't got any dew claws at the back. Her front ones she uses like thumbs, including digging them into me when she wants attention. They're certainly nothing like that thou I did get the vet to help clip them back last vaccination time. She used a parrot beak clipper and it was over before my dog noticed. Not like the evil guillotine clippers. Still thinking about getting a dremmel. I'd really like a dremmel that oscillates so it doesn't risk winding up fur into the mechanism. -
I guess it comes down to what the breeder told you about papers that made you choose her. Obviously you can't believe a word she says any more because everything she's said about papers has been wrong so far. You should be able to get your money back via small claims court, if you want to keep the puppy anyway I think a fair amount to ask back would be her price - the cost of a puppy from the RSPCA (though that includes desexing and microchipping). Does she even comply with the rules about selling puppies in QLD? http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/animal-industries/cats-and-dogs/pet-owners/microchip-your-cat-or-dog
-
I still think you're entitled to your money back. She sold you a pup, she claimed she was registered and she wasn't. The other breeder may not be willing to support someone like that. Ie if the dogs she bred were limited register and sold as pets - she'd have to get them converted to mains register and that might never happen if the breeder still thinks those dogs are not good representatives of their breed. Contact fair trading / consumer affairs - they will be able to do more than dogsqld. And 6 months is a ridiculous amount of time to wait when there is a puppy involved.

Impounded Bull Breed Put Down Before Breed Assessment In Nsw
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to BlackJaq's topic in In The News
As far as I know - any NSW council can put the dog down (or rehome it) after 7 days if it's not claimed. http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/caa1998174/s64.html -
Fake or forged papers are pretty easy. It's also possible that a breeder who once had a prefix and followed the code of ethics and all that, has decided to go into cross breeding and those puppies will never get ANKC papers. If someone sold you a puppy and told you it would be ANKC registered (aka "papered") and it isn't and won't be, then you can (theoretically) return the puppy for a full refund because it isn't what you paid for. You may also be able to get your money back via your credit card company - if you used a credit card to pay for it. And if you are in Australia - most of the state consumer affairs offices are becoming more interested in this kind of fraud or misleading conduct.

From a completely non show perspective... the best stands I get from my dog - First method (not so good) I got a stand by catching her with a hand under her tummy before she could sit, then building duration with a high rate of reinforcements - ie feeding her treats as fast as I can and stopping if she moves a paw or sits. The second method - starts by teaching her to target your hand with her nose, by putting a treat in your hand, and letting her eat that (if you want her to stand, place it out so she has to stand up to get it), only treat while she is standing (again - as fast as you can deliver while she is learning and the behaviour is what you want). So then you start rewarding for her tapping your hand with her nose. Then you can lead her around by moving your hand so she has to move to touch it - place your rewards from your other hand into the target hand * in position * so she stays (or moves) to the position you want to get the reward. I agree with the others about placing the reward too high - then you get yoyo bum. My dog coils up on her bum to use her back end as a sort of rocket launcher to grab the treat (a trick I call "Greedy Pig" and would not want to try with a St Bernard). Once she has the idea of the stand - at least four out of five times you set it up, then you can add a cue word of your choice eg "Staand" or "Stack" for the more formal show dog look. And once she's got it going nicely on cue, you can start rewarding for the average or better looking stands... not the slow sloppy yoyo butt stuff. there's a link to Susan Garrett's video of her stand on her facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SusanGarrettDogAgility if you like the page - you get access to the video via the picture below the profile picture - it's the picture (click on it) to the right of the number of likes she already has. youtube links are so much easier. Remember only reward what you want more of ... you might not want to use the same play rewards as SG does with her puppy.

Question Regarding Dog Attacks
Mrs Rusty Bucket replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in General Dog Discussion
you're asking what the media would do? They'd make out your dangerous and deadly dog had shredded your friend's babies. Max on drama, min on truth or balanced view.
