I love my little EzyCoat barrel dryer/blower. I use it for all my pet grooming. If you need high pressure there are attachments. It heats the air about 14 degrees above room temp.

What Do You Feed Your Youngsters (8 Weeks +)
capanash replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Since we picked her up at 8 weeks, i've had my 4 month old standard puppy on Proplan Performance ("For Hardworking and Highly Active Dogs of All Life Stages"). So it can be classified as adult. She will stay on that food unless she gets too fat from it , then I might change it. I have my 2yo standard on the same food. -
Alcohol based ear cleaner stings alot... i tried it out once when i had a bad ear (it worked)... now I know what the dog goes thru... lol I use baby bum wipes which the dogs dont mind so much. I'm told the Malaseb solution is great. I'd be massaging her ears when ever you have her up for a cuddle or whatever and associating ear touching with treats. Don't always poke in her ears, get her to realise that you aren't always going to hurt her when you touch her ears.

First Ever Obedience Trial (ccd)
capanash replied to KismetKat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi KismetKat, Did you do Moorabbin's trials? I was there with Freya this afternoon. Since we began trialling, we have found all the CCD judges to be very helpfull and very good with picking up our faults. They want you to improve and come back. Have only done about 7 trials (for 2 passes!) all depends on Freya's mood on the day. Today, when sitting on a pass for everything else, she decided to drop on her sit stay, I think it was too warm for her in the sun. Don't get too despondant, keep training and enjoy your dog. -
Show Training & Obedience Training
capanash replied to BC's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
BC, you can do both and one can compliment the other. A free moving dog, trained to heel can look much better than one strung up tightly on a show lead. Freya was obedience trained before she began her show career, we used different collars and also changed handlers. The hardest thing we found after retiring her from conformation showing was to sit without command. I can take her son, Fabio, around the showring without a lead and he will move correctly and stay with me. I haven't taken him to any formal obedience classes, obedience people don't take a poodle in show trim seriously. Freya's daughter, Lea, will resume her trialling career soon and she will be in show trim. -
Celeste, good luck with your first trial. Let the judge know that it is your first time trialling, they will give you very clear instructions. TRY to relax, if you are nervous your dog can sense it. I would rather conformation show than trial ( we do both). BC, you would have met Zoran the Black Russian, he is a real clown. Do you know if he earned his final CCD pass at Bendigo?

I use the word "leave" for food refusal then "take" as the command to eat.
-
Well done BC, what a great start to your obedience career! Good luck for future trials.
-
Well BC, how did you go with your first trial today? We have just returned home. Freya actually behaved and scored 89 in CCD, 5th in the ring. That made her 2nd pass for CCD.

Freya (aka CH. Marlau Lucindas Princess) is entered in CCD. Good luck with your first trial.

We have used both Monash and Werribee for Hip scoring. Monash is now our regular Vet and more convenient, and they do Penn Hips. For DNA and genetic testing, have you tried Genetic Technologies? http://www.gtg.com.au They are located in Melbourne and George who runs the company is very helpful.

Who's Going To Croydon Trial?
capanash replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We have Freya (CH. Marlau Lucindas Princess) entered in CCD, but she came into season earlier than expected. No trial for her tomorrow. Good luck to all who trial. -
We feed our Standards on Coprice ( with lots of fresh meat as well ). The puppy food is really good, but not many places stock it. about $25 for 12kg puppy and $25 for 20 kg adult working dog.

Obedience Trial Kcc (hastings Obed Club)
capanash replied to ReXy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We have Freya ( Ch. Marlau Lucindas Princess ) entered in CCD. So far she has managed one CCD pass 93/100. She has been slow and hanging back with healing, really lacking enthusiasm. Does everything else well. All depends on what mood she is in on the day. -
We feed Coprice Working dog dry food, with lots of fresh meat as well. $25 fo 20kg, all Australian owned company and no artificial ingredients. They also make a good puppy kibble. We have 3 Standards in full show coat and constantly have comments about their coat quality and how well muscled they are. We think it is great value.

What shampoo/conditioner have you been using?

Victor (standard poodle) and I enjoyed our 1st weekend of obedience trials at Geelong. Everyone was really nice and helpful. Victor was pretty bad with his obedience, mainly his crappy healing! But now we know what to work on. He somehow managed to get his 1st pass for CCD!!!... the other 3 trials... don't ask... LOL It was good to meet a couple of DOL people... congrats on their successful weekend! We will be back out in the obedience ring in a month or two... once we have sorted out all my bad habits... LOL

I have entered my standard poodle in the geelong trials... it's our 1st trial!!!
-
We have entered the Geelong weekend 8/9th July

I have entered my standard poodle in his first CCD obedience trial on July 8th. We are members of Moorabbin obedience club, so we have done lots of practise. I am use to conformation showing and I am more worried about me stuffing up than the dogs obedience! Has anyone got any helpful hints on what not to do wrong in the obedience ring???

Sandgrubber must have missed my post from June 4th. Advice was to clip the hair around a hotspot and keep clean and dry.

Our 11 month old Standard Poodle eats his outdoor beds. So far he has eaten his way through Hession trampoline bed cover, another cover for the same bed, several foam/dacron filled old couch cushions, a cot size innerspring mattress and the cover from a big cushion dog bed. He also helps himself to the toilet paper in the outside loo, great fun unravelling that. He has company, toys and bones to chew.
