Thanx 4 results Sway! How did my Shimmy go? Very happy i stayed in bed

I know they will let you feed your own dry food... so i think they are reasonably flexible with other food. Melb Q is about 15/20mins from the airport.

From what i've heard... Melbourne is much easier to deal with than Sydney. I've babysat friends dogs in Melbourne Q and found the staff are very good. A friend currently has a coated breed in Sydney Q and she is only being given 30mins in the grooming room!!!

The Best Thing I Heard At The Royal Was...
capanash replied to Elfin's topic in General Dog Discussion
As I fought my way to the ring through a thick sea of the public at the royal, I had to shout at people to move. A guy behind me said to his family, "quick follow that lady cos she can get through the crowd"... I did use my bossy school teacher voice... lol One of the best things that has been said to me was by a lady I met while out walking my white standard poodle. She stated what a lovely afghan I had... I set her straight and she then proudly told me that she once had a standard poodle! We had a clipped off standard at a show along side the showdogs and a couple walked over and chatted to us. The man of the house said that he wanted one of the short coated poodles... lol -
Standard Poodles are extremely protective of their people and property. Don't confuse being protective with aggression, our poodles are very friendly with new people when we are with them. They will growl at strangers if approached without us. None of our dogs have been raised with young children, only socialising with my nieces and nephews at family functions. They are all very happy to play with children at the park or at a show. You do have to be careful with small chidren, a big excited Standard can easily knock a child over accidentally. Freya has a wonderful relationship with a friend's 4yr old grand daughter who handles her at Poodle club members comps. My friend has Miniature poodles and says that Standards have a more even temperament. Freya is a VCA certified Pets as Therapy dog, both Freya and Athena (her grand daughter) have passed the temperament test to become demonstration dogs for the Responsible Pet Ownership education program, can't do that with bad temperament.

It does help to have an experienced mentor. The basic work required to grow and maintain poodle coat is not difficult, just time consuming, especially when poodles are going through coat change. There is a wonderful book written by Shirley Kahlstone which describes all aspects of coat care, a must for beginners.

We allow 3 hours for bathing and drying, very important to straighten the coat before scissoring. Another hour or so to clip and scissor. On the day of a show, about an hour to brush, put up the topknot and finish with hairspray.

Well done TSD. I was watching you doing your heeling at the first trial, nice looking Dally! Great start to his trialling career.

Today at the AM Berwick Obedience Trial, Freya gained her final pass for her Novice Title with a score of 181 and 2nd place in the ring. She is now CH Marlau Lucindas Princess CCD CD.
-
Freya finally earned another pass in Novice today, not the greatest of scores, but it was still a pass (2 down, one to go)! Weather was horrible, windy and raining. She managed second in the ring and won a lovely fringey sash for highest scoring Poodle in Trial.

Yes Natsu chan, Freya is the white standard who likes to talk to everyone, she is very social. She is the avatar pic, when she had more hair.Don't know who was most uncomfortable coming home today, wet Freya or me with wet undies after standing in the rain for stays!
-
Congratulations NC, well done in such terrible weather. Freya was in Novice 1 at Southern this morning, she was one of only two dogs to complete her sit stay in the rain and wind. Managed a 2nd in the ring, but NQ.

We only use a stand dryer on the show coats, Ezy coat blower is fine for short pet coats. Heats the air to 14 degrees above ambient temperature.

We could access the members section until about a week ago. Now a message appears saying that the membership has been unfinancial for 60+ days. This was paid on time, back in January. At least the gazette is out on time this month.

I have often wondered the same thing! My girl was desexed at 7 years old. She wasn't tattoed and her scar is very faint (good stiching by the vet ). So it wouldn't be very obvious that she is spayed.

Freya was sitting on a pass for Novice this morning, but decided to stand up for her sit stay! Never done this before. Last week she was more interested in the magpies outside the ring than heeling properly with me. Glad to hear Cooper did well in the PM trial.

My girl Lea went up from Beginners to Intermediate 1 in agility class last night!!! I have been seriously doing agility training for since June 07, and that included a month or 2 off for variuos reasons. I was determined to get Lea's contact behaviour right, so I got out the electric saw and built my own A-frame/Walk out of a section of house fence Works really well. Hopefully we will be ready to trial mid year.

Some of my lot are on Proplan, they seem to be doing well on it. I like it because it meat has the main ingredient rather than grain.

After reading this last night I rushed off to find some good bait (leftover Christmas ham ) and started teaching Lea to bow. I was amazed at how quickly she figured it out (3 lures). She will hold the postion until I release her. If she does it, then drops her bum, I tap her on the belly and give her the treat when she is in the correct position. I didn't use the clicker (even though she understands it), I used 'Yes' when she did the right thing. I have to work on getting some distance between us, instead of her doing it right in front of me. What hand signals do people use for this command? I am just pointing at the ground with 1 finger, so we don't mix up Drop. Thankyou for having this trick section!!! Now I'll have to start working my way through the previous tricks.

I'm thinking about doing an endurance test with my girl Lea. She has soft foot pads, so i'll have to toughen then up. The thought of me riding a bike for 20km's scares me Sounds like i'd better psych myself up to start training... btw it's me that needs the training!
