  1. There are 3 litters advertised on the DOL Yorkshire Terrier page. Also suggest a phone around to breeders listed as litters are not always advertised and Yorkies are hard to find these days.
  2. I have had success by crushing the tablet and adding a little water - enough to use a syringe and just pop it in the dog's mouth. You could use yoghurt instead of water.
  3. We never had any problems with our entire male Golden Retrievers - had two for many years and several girls who were entire. However, our little Yorkshire Terrier boy has to wear a belly band because, try as hard as we can, we just can't get him to stop lifting his leg inside. And none of our Yorkie girls are entire so it is just a territory marking exercise I think.
  4. My Golden talks to me. She responds when I talk to her, and gives me such a warm look it melts my heart!
  5. Have you considered there might be a tracea problem?
  6. Have seen the vet - no obvious problems. Age 15 months. Happy active dog, but not over-active. Her ribs can be felt. She has quite a square conformation - not overlong in the loin. She has a mixture of food, chicken, MyDog, vegies, dry food - the same proportion as the rest of the Yorkies this person has.
  7. A friend of mine has a Yorkshire Terrier girl who will not put on any weight, even though she eats well and would eat all the other Yorkies' food if she could. Has anybody got any ideas about how to get some more weight on her. She has been wormed.
  8. They called me too and I told them my computer technician had just checked my computer and they hung up !!
  9. I am a GR lover and they are just such special dogs, that's for sure. However, I do believe that a breed with a similar disposition is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are such loving and happy dogs, great with people and children, easy to manage and nowhere as big as a Golden. However, your friend, if they want to explore this breed, should be sure they purchase from a dedicated caring breeder who does all the health tests and breeds accordingly. Do lots of research!
  10. I saw it and was absolutely amazed and shocked when one breeder said they had 70 bitches in their kennels!!!
  11. How about the Yorkshire Terrier? Surprised they are not on the list.
  12. Just make sure that you don't need at Vet Certificate for this. In my experience I have to take the dog to the vet within a fortnight of it flying to Tas and have certification from a Vet that the medication has been administered.
  13. The url is http://www.parliament.sa.gov.au/Committees/Pages/Committees.aspx?CTId=3&CId=276 and then select the Final Report pdf.
  14. I will make some enquiries and let you know when and where it can be viewed.
  15. The Committee received 168 written submissions from the general public and interested bodies, and the names are listed in The Final Report.
  16. The final report of the Select Committee on Dogs and Cats was presented on 3rd July 2013. It was laid on the table in the House of Assembly and ordered to be published.
  17. [The only way ethical registered breeders are going to be able to compete with byb's, pet shops and puppy farms is if they advertise where the public looks, keep their dogs at a reasonable price, make every potential puppy buyers experience a good one and mostly give the public good reasons for buying a purebred. The majority of customers I speak to go for xbreeds because they 'don't want a show dog' and don't see any need to spend big $$$ getting one from a breeder. The price of puppies from pet shops is not cheap - so why should registered breeders sell their pups cheaply when they can have very high vet fees for a litter, including after hours assistance in whelping, vaccinations, microchipping, even desexing. Small sized litters hardly bring in enough to cover the costs. One of our pups had a problem which cost us $800 to resolve, and we let the pup go without cost. Puppy buyers also need to realise ethical caring registered breeders like to know the background of and type of home their puppy will go to are of utmost importance but so often puppy enquirers do not give any information and get angry when asked. I am not desperate to sell our pups, so why put out lots of advertisements - it is not difficult for a buyer to find litters from authentic sources and we never have problems finding homes for our puppies as we just wait until the 'right' home comes along.
  18. We have had, for many years, both Golden Retrievers and Yorkshire Terriers. They get along famously, but we have always had to watch when a fun situation occurs as the Goldens don 't really know they are so much bigger than a Yorkie. It's all in the training - just having one of each would not be difficult.
  19. Interesting to note that a question for Minister for Sustainability Environment and Conservation was asked by Hon M Lensink in the Legislative Council SA Parliament yesterday on the subject of the RSPCA investigating the Moorook Animal Shelter. Question was asked what the outcome has been and did the government provide any assistance to the Moorook Animal Shelter in meeting the orders made by the RSPCA. Don't know when these questions will be answered, but will keep across it.
  20. As you are in SA you might like to try Caring Canine Companions which is run by the Golden Retriever Club of SA as an auspice for the Community Visitors Scheme. http://www.grcsa.org.au and go to the CCC link for information. All breeds and mixed breeds as well as Goldens are involved. For 13 years I was the co-ordinator for this scheme. At that time we had 140 volunteers and 150 dogs - all breeds and mixed breeds. There are still a very large number of volunteers involved and it is certainly the most rewarding activity you can do with your canine friend. Husband David and I used to visit, sometimes with 5 Goldens, into the activities area of Residential Aged Care Facilities. One of our golden girls, Bonnie, was awarded a Hero Medal, nominated by the wife of one of Bonnie's residential friends. He would not take notice of anything at all except when Bonnie came into his room. I saw so many wonderful experiences when introducing new volunteers and their canines.
  21. Generally speaking, Yorkies are a healthy breed here in Australia so there are no 'required' health tests.
  22. Yes, definitely go for the Cartrophen. Our 14 (almost 15) year old Golden has had back end problems for about 3 years, and after the initial 4 weekly injections, she has one injection every 6-8 weeks and the improvement in her mobility, getting up and down etc., is wonderful.
  23. Golden Retrievers will be happy with any breed. Just look at what you would like, small or large, and obviously not with an aggressive temperament as the other dog you get will be the one you have to wonder if it will get on with your Golden. Just get another Golden - best way to go !!
  24. When the Royal Canine became unavailable, I used Hills Z/d Ultra and have found it to give the same results - no messy poos.
