My Dog Just Vomited Today-causes?
mutt lover replied to boldenbeau's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Probably nothing to worry about unless dog goes off food and seems listless, dogs often vomit if they've eaten something which didn't agree with them, my dog chucked up yest as she'd been licking her fur a lot and possibly had too many smackos packet fell off bench and guts found it. -
Old Girl Struggling To 'hold It'
mutt lover replied to Zug Zug's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My litle lady is a little incontinent not all the time but sometimes has accidents and leaks a bit on her bed's, I took her to vet and she is on tablets for incontinence isn't gr8 for their kidneys but at 16 years of age they probably aren't that gr8 anyway, If however has only recently started for your dog perhaps he also may have an infection but your vet will be able to advise you more on what the problem may be the tablets aren't expensive. -
I was recently given a maltese shih tzu as I'm a softie and didn't want to see the little guy go to the pound, although I'm not overly fond of this breed as I've found them to be yappy he is actually a nice mannered little dog, is actually better behaved than Lady He is an angel to brush and clip and happily let me clip his toe nails, his only bad trait is barking at everything he sees outside even neighbor when he's outside which drives me crazy but he probably thinks he's being a good watch dog but would actually roll over for a tummy rub if anyone did come in.

How Does Your Dog Singal He Needs To Go Out For A Wee?
mutt lover replied to Snowball's topic in Puppy Chat
lady barks at me if I'm asleep and wants to go out during the night or goes to door and barks during day and after she has her dinner, if I'm busy and don't let her out straight away she barks louder until I hurry up and get there. -
Have been reading all posts re yearly injections and h worm injection vs tablets etc. My old dog lady has been having yearly injections for last 9 years but last year noticed the reaction to injections was more severe but vet will tell you is very rare, she was quite off for 2 days after having injection had slight temperature and was generaly very listless, has also now got wart type things on various parts of her body which I've since found out is a build up of toxins from yearly injections which was in a dog magazine. So this brings me to the question is it really safe injecting these toxins into our dogs and what is the alternative as I want to research more before I go down that track when I get another dog, I thought I was doing right thing getting injections every year and heart worm one vet admitted to me last year that some dogs can have a reaction but it is usually very mild.

Sometimes dogs like people can twist wrong way and pinch a nerve in their back have seen it with dogs chasing balls and slipping on lino many a time, keep an eye on her and feel along her body for any areas and see if she flinches or if she's walking any different or is uncomfortable like lying down and getting up and moving around and repeating process is a good indication she may of pulled muscle or something.

Schnauzer With Ear Infection - Yeast
mutt lover replied to slk's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Best advice is speak to your vet about preventing it from coming back, but with my dogs i have regularly swabbed their ears out with cotton wool and a bit of parafin oil. and always make sure when you are bathing dog that you put cotton wool in ears to stop any water getting in if you put water over their head. I use an old face washer to wash dogs head and face but if you take to groomer tell them to put cotton wool in ears so as not to get water in. -
Toddler Attacked By Dog In Hair Salon
mutt lover replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
The bottom line here people is:........Any responsible Dog owner should not trust any dog around children especially when it was eating a bone? Some people just do get it! It is the shop owners stupidity that allowed this to happen even if the dog has never bitten anyone before and why the hell was it loose in the shop it should of been out the back away from customers, The parents of the child would be entitled to sue shop owner for negligence and medical bills also. Also now people are going to start bagging huskies saying they're obviously savage is just a case of stupid owner as per usual!. -
I tried the joint guard for lady but it didn't do much for her nor the sasha's blend. Just go to vet now and get Cartrophen injection every couple months has done wonders and is cheaper. You will usually find the online vet products direct are cheapest I bought heap of co flex bandages once when my horse cut her leg open were lot cheaper than saddlery stores.

Toddler Attacked By Dog In Hair Salon
mutt lover replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
Firstly Lets hope the poor little girl is not too badly hurt or scared of dogs for the rest of her life. Secondly Since when has it been ok by Health regulations to have animals in shops especially eating a bone, surely if they must take their dog to work they can have it out the back tied up or away from people, some people obviously don't have a clue. if this husky has been put down the owner should take a long hard look at themselves as you YOU DO NOT TAKE RISKS WITH ANY DOG AROUND ANY CHILDREN EVEN IF IT'S YOUR OWN!. Any Idiot knows that.! -
My old girl lady used to love going outside to sit and watch possum's in tree in back yard when we lived in suburbia always seemed to know when they were out there would bark to go outside and sit and bark at tree or whine, The possum's would be sitting in tree looking down as if to say dumb dog you can't get me, she did try to climb tree but quickly discovered she wasn't a cat, Finally to get some peace I'd shake the tree to get possum's to jump onto roof so I could get her inside, Funny thing was neighbours were taking bets every night to see what time Lady would be outside on her possum watch, ended up cutting tree down to keep the bloody things out of backyard much to Lady's displeasure still went outside to watch where tree had been. (Silly dog)!

What Has Your Dog Trained You To Do?
mutt lover replied to Keshwar's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes we are all well trained aren't we!, When my old girl lady wants someting eg, smackos she will go to kitchen cupboard where they are and bark and if I ignore her will bark louder and walk back into lounge and bark at me as if to say "shift ya butt mum I wanna smackos", has always slept on my bed but can't jump up now even though she has couple of old lounge cushions on floor at base of bed and can go from one to the other two and on to the bed which she does easily when she wants to, Nooo when it's time for bed she will go and stand next to the cushions and bark until I come and pick her up and put her on the bed, oh and if I'm still watching Tv when she's gone to bed around 9.30 ish will wait a while and then will bark until I come to bed too. When she was younger would bark when she wanted to go for her walk and still barks at 4.30 when she wants her dinner, get a pay out if I get home from work later than 5 get into big trouble I do. -
R.I.P. Patch. What a lucky little dog to have found you and your family and what a lovely tribute.

Red Rash On Belly And Under Arms
mutt lover replied to VinnieStaff's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
When my dog gets the allergies from the grass I wash in either pinetarsol which you get from a chemist or any of the oatmeal shampoo's you get from vets/pet shops Epi-soothe are oatmeal based and help stop the itching, if it's really red and itchy I've also used Solarcaine spray which people use for sunburn or insect bites etc, buy from chemist it has an anaesthetic agent in it and is cooling on their skin. Hope this helps. -
This is my little angel "lady" picture taken at cardinia lake near Pakenham in 2007 lady was a rescue from rspca 10 years ago, was supposed to be 8 when I got her but turned out to be only 6 which was great, she is 16 now has slowed down a lot but cherish every day I have left with her.
-
When my girl gets the allergies from the grass etc I found bathing her in episoothe oatmeal shampoo which you get at pet shops really helps also anything like pinetarsol to bath on itchy tummies also helps, haven't had much success with antihistamines, Even if you buy some rolled oats from supermarket and put in a sock and wet and wipe dog over with this seems to help also, stay clear of any shampoo's that have perfume in them, only use natural products which I found helped a real lot, even the baby curash powder or creme you buy at safeway also is good and won't affect them if they lick area with it on, hope this gives you some help.
-
I usually try the curash baby powder or creme from supermarket, was told by vet to get antihistamine tablets from chemist like polaramine or a home brand and give one a day, also washing dog in oatmeal shampoo is also good for sensitive skin dogs like my terrier especially this time of year with the dry grass etc, my neighbours think i'm mad as I rush around putting towels and dog matt's everywhere but she still sits on grass under tree and then is all itchy when she comes inside.

Home Delivered Fresh Dog Food Or Similar (melb)
mutt lover replied to Staycalm's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you go to the Laverton knackery you can buy fresh horse meat from them, used to feed it to our greyhounds with vegies, wheat germ etc there is no fat in horse meat and dogs seem to like it and vet recommended it to a dog we had that had similar problems to your dog.
