Tips Needed On Blocking Off Grass Area From The Dogs
mutt lover replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Instead of using star pickets you could buy the portable horse electric fence stakes the sturdy plastic ones or metal pig tail stakes and attach the chicken wire to those measure your lawn and put 5 paces apart fso you know how many you would need these will a) be easier to put in lawn and won't wreck it as star post do leave a big hole and b) the portable ones can be re used for other things any time you need them, you can get them at farm supply places at around $5 each. but there are two types of plastic stakes the heavier ones are the better ones or if they don't have them in WA the ordinary pig tail stakes will do the job and you can put the bottom of the chicken wire under the metal bar you push into ground and should be able to put the pig tail stake through the holes in the chicken wire to keep it secure. Good luck I hope this is of some help for you looks like a nice backyard. -
No don't know where it came from originally, I got it via email from a friend, with last line being about thanking God I figured it was a religious thing and friend who sent it to me is very religious also. Feel free to use it on your website the more people that see it the more it might sink home to some!

1. My Life is likely to last 10-15 years, Any separation from you is likely to be painful. 2. Give me time to understand what you want of me. 3. Place your trust in me, It is crucial for my well-being. 4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment, You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only YOU. 5. Talk to me, Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me. 6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it. 7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to. 8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something may be bothering me, Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, Or I may of been in the sun too long, Or my heart might be getting old or weak. 9. Please take care of me when I grow old, You too will grow old. 10. On the Ultimate Journey go with me please, Never say you can't bear to watch, Don't make me face this alone, Everything is easier for me if you are there, BECAUSE I LOVE YOU SO. Take a moment today to thank God for your pets, Enjoy and take good care of them. Our Life would be much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters, be surrounded by Hope, Love and Joyfulness. IT IS HERE ON EARTH AND IT HAS FOUR LEGS!. Thanks to everyone for all you're replies, and yes Poodle Mum she is a sweetie but as bossy and demanding as all get up but at 17 that tells me she's still doing ok. (Getting barked at now cause she thinks it's dinner time) Oh and I don't clip cause I can't be bothered brushing her , when her coat is long she gets a brush and comb every night just find it easier to maintain in summer living on a farm with all the bindi's and other crap in the grass here this time of year. Interesting a friend told me today same pet shop lady told her she shouldn't clip her sheltie either but like me she finds it easier being on a farm with a short coat, said she just left whatever she was going to buy on the counter and walked out.

Alloveen or Resisoothe both excellent, but have heard the goats milk soap is also good for dogs who get the itchies.

Ok here's my question and my opinion on this subject re my dog Lady! Lady is? well could be maltese x silky terrier, now she doesn't quite get a coat like a maltese more the silky terrier coat but a bit thicker and she does feel the heat so I have always clipped her in the hot weather. I was abused by a lady at a pet shop the other week who told me that she didn't need clipping and that in her opinion most dogs don't need clipping that their fur acts as an insulator against the heat and if my dog was inside with air con on on hot days then why do I clip her. My answer to that was because she gets distressed in the hot weather and I can tell when I clip her that it does make her feel cooler/more comfortable in the hot weather.

When my little scruff 'lady' was younger she used to play with bigger dogs, can't figure that one out unless her previous owner had a bigger dog also, but was at a friends one day and she had 2 shelties and lady wouldn't have a bar of them would growl if they came up to play but friends brother was there with his kelpie and lady just loved his dog, and when i used to take her to park she'd seek out a bloke that had a munsterlander and would happily play with this dog but would growl at other dogs, and even now loves the german shephard next door is one strange little dog.

Nah just a bit of extra protein my old girl does it all the time if we're outside of a night, has done the hunstman's also had one in my bedroom one night and I knocked it on floor and went to get vac and came back to see Lady looking very pleased with herself and looked on floor and there was huntsman body and no legs probably thought it wont run now mum!

Stupid Woman hope she gets fined big time, surely she could of left dog wherever she'd been staying or would be better to of tied it up outside shops in shade somewhere if she had to have it with her in the car, some people are just so dumb.

Well if he's gonna be a mate for the kids call him Mate or Buddy or as a friend of mine got a staffy on anzac day she called him Anzac (Zac for short) I'd let the kids name him they usually come up with good names. Or u could call him Dunno cause you Dunno what to call him.

Awww, what a lovely pic, they certainly do look so relaxed, is gr8 to see just how many of us bring them inside during these awful hot days. have felt like bringing my horse in also, has gone feral now with the wind picking up change must be on the way. I feel sorry for all the dogs in the shelters on that stinking hot concrete would be hell.

Aww I love hearing gr8 stories like this, hope there is many more for your darling Misty

Please Make Sure Your Dogs Are Okay In The Heat

Well here in northern vic temp is 37.5 so they just said on radio, I have air con on and would put on for doggies if I was at work they're always inside when it's hot even if I'm at work just put newspaper down on kitchen floor and they will go toilet there if they need to go. Horse was looking a bit stressed is only 1 tree for shade in her paddock but has a shelter which she only goes in if its bucketing down rain so I put hot tape across driveway and let her out into back yard so she can come and stand under carport if she wants to, but no where is she standing right in front of aircon box outside kitchen window, you would think she would be hotter with the hot air coming out of it, (Silly girl) I've hosed her down once already and no doubt like yesterday will hose her down couple more times and have put light cotton rug back on, I've found that even if horses have shady trees they still stand out in the hot sun so they obviously don't care as long as they got plenty of water to drink. Just saw neighbors German Sheppard while I was hosing horse down go for dip in their fish pond they bought him a clam shell pool but he prefers the fish pond. -
I couldn't work at a shelter I just wouldn't be tough enough and would want to get them all good homes!, Years ago I had a friend who told me that whenever her and her family went on holidays her parents would just open the car door out in the middle of nowhere and let the dogs out and her and her sisters would be watching them chasing the car down the road, I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I told her what I thought of anyone that would do that, funny enough couple of years later she had a horse that had foundered badly and as she had 2 young children and only lived 5 mins away from paddock said she didn't have time to go to horse but wouldn't give it away or sell it, so I took up some pig tail stakes and hot tape and made yard in paddock and would drive up from my place which was 45mins away to look after her horse every day I ended up calling the vet and dobbing her in as horse kept getting out, I ended up severing the friendship as I want nothing to do with people who don't care for their animals friends or not!

Ok thanks for that, and sorry to hear it didn't work on Diesel, I had a dog years ago that it didn't work on also.

Whats The Most 'out There' Thing You Have Done
mutt lover replied to lilypily's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm glad I read this now I know I'm not MAD :D Like everyone else Lady sleeps on my bed, and as she's old now can't jump up so I have 1 long cushion on floor at foot of bed with 2 at one end and just one as step on 1 end of long cushion so she can get up as she doesn't like being picked up never has, get a grrr if I try and lift her. I also turn fan on of a night if she's a bit hot (will bark at me until I do anyway) :p but will put doona over me if I'm cold, people tell me I'm mad for this. Had opportunity to go with friend to Tamworth last year have always wanted to go but when it came to crunch I wouldn't leave my girl as per usual. Used to go to rodeos couple of years ago with girl I used to know and would camp there, girl I went with used to get really peeved off that I'd take my dog and insist she sleep in tent not outside tied up like she wanted caused quite a few arguments but yes she did sleep in tent. also had her sleep in my swag with me also one night a smart arse cowboy came up a bit drunk and opened swag only to find a growling dog looking at him When I moved house again recently I turned down the perfect place as there was no aircon and also because landlord said she'd have to be outside in a kennel (AS IF)!, A girl I was friends with years ago who was also a vet nurse so thought she should understand, used to get annoyed if we went away that I'd bring my dog also cracked it with me coz I gave dog a biscuit while in the car, told her perhaps she should change professions that IMO she wasn't much of an animal lover, but looking on here looks like I'm not strange after all just like everyone else who loves their dog's to bits. -
If any vet nurses here would like some advice re cartrophen injections, My old girl Lady had the course of cartrophen last winter, and when I had her at vet recently for check up said that instead of every 3 months that I could get injection every month. The injections have helped her but am wondering if every month seems a bit much.

I'd give anything to be able to take my darling old girl Lady for walks, but she won't walk far anymore gets to corner of our road which is only 1 house next door and turns around and wants to come home again, so I take her cruisin in car instead just down to local park and a little walk around there (snail pace now), has aged sooo quickly 18 months ago she would still demand her walk every night and was still doing 1/2 hour walks. So I have to take my horse for walk every night instead as she's been lame and haven't been able to ride her so she gets an hour's walk of a night time around the block, get some funny looks though people probably wondering why I'm leading her and not riding her, and after the hour I'm wondering the same thing. :D

Check out same sort of thing from web site www.piginmud.com.au they have those pet doors that fit into where sliding door is also think they are cheaper than $450 are available at bunnings, other than that you're best bet would be to get other type of pet door and cut hole in door and fit to that, or what I did was go to demolition yard get another outside door as I rent and landlord wasn't rapt in idea of cutting hole in back door, so measured door and got second hand one which I put on a cut hole in which solved problem, I liked the patio type doors but yeah very expensive, if you were able to you could take pic of one in bunnings and measure mightn't be too hard to make with frame and perspex type stuff.

My family and myself have always adopted dogs from shelters, and have never had a bad dog yet! Like you I'd love to get a pure bred dog just love the mini schnauzer's but would never be able to afford $1000 to $1500 for a dog so for me will always go back to shelters, and nowdays you can go into pen with pups etc to see if you or your child bond with them. Good luck hope you find something soon.

I know I've said this before but after having a little dog killed in a dog attack 10 years ago, I now carry a broom handle that I cut down and have had to use it a few times when I lived in melb suburbs, one stupid bloke that had a german shepherd ran up to my Lady when I hadn't had her long after my previous little girl was killed so I was still very very nervous, well I picked Lady up and told bloke to get his so and so dog to which the response was he just wants the stick. So I gave him the stick alright right across the nose not hard but hard enough to make him back off as he was growling and clearly wasn't interested in the "stick", Well owner abused me and said he was gonna lay charges so I told him I'd report him for not having his dog under control and perhaps It would of been better to of belted him rather than his dog as it may of knocked some sense into him, his mate that was with him burst out laughing, so that's what I do I carry a big stick, though sometimes I wish I had one of those cattle prod zappers they'd be really good especially on some owners also
