I have used the Pinetarsol which is the green stuff you use when you have chicken pox or you could also use some vinegar diluted in water and use in a spray bottle I have used this when I've run out of the oatmeal shampoo which I either use the Resisoothe or Alloveen. you can also buy dry dog food which is for sensitive skin dogs. Hope it clears up soon.

Teaching Older Dog To Use Doggie Door?
mutt lover replied to mtchairs's topic in General Dog Discussion
a friend had same problem with an old dog she had so she lifted the plastic cover up out of the way and let the dog get used to going through without anything there and then put a thin piece of plastic there for couple of days and when dog was used to pushing through that then put the normal plastic door back down and dog was used to going in and out then and was fine, and also lots of treats and praise. -
this is my old girl 'Lady' who is now 16 she came from the pound 11 years ago.

Do Relatively Unprotective Dogs 'step Up' If Necessary?
mutt lover replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
A dog I had many years ago did just that, was at a lake with a friend and there were some drunk blokes and their girlfriends there and the blokes were making snide comments which we were ignoring, then all of a sudden one of the girlfriends breaks her beer bottle and comes over to where we were sitting and threatens us, (I shit myself)! my dog Ruffy was sitting beside me got up and put his hackles up and started growling at her I had to tell him it was ok as she threatened to slash him with the bottle. Luckily one of the blokes came over and took her away was absolutely terrifying and I never went back to that place. -
My old girl lady is 16 and has wart things on her head and body and is also losing her sight, she does bite at the warts and rubs her head on the carpet so they must be itchy, tried some of that wartner on them but didn't do any good, vet said it was just an age thing and not to worry about them. Spotty Chick would love to know what you treated you dog's with.

A little dog I had years ago used to go crazy at the goodyear light ship (blimp thing) that used to come from the old waverley footy ground over our house in Mt Waverley after the footy, she would be in the lounge room and don't know how she could hear it but would go crazy to get outside and would dance around and bark at it this big yellow balloon in the sky, was so funny, was walking her one day when some hot air balloon's were in the sky.

I went to a physcic medium night and one of the mediums was a pet one and was pointing to people in the audience and saying that they had lost a pet for whatever circumstances anyway she pointed to me and said that I'd lost a little dog recently to tragic circumstances, and she started rubbing her stomach and said she got internal bleeding etc and that the vet didn't do his job which I had thought anyway and also that my mum was looking after her with all out other dogs and my 2 horses which had passed. I was a sceptic but after that I now believe as she could of easily said cats.

My old dog does the same thing the vet told me it was an allergy like people getting hay fever this time of year! I give her an antihistamine tablet which seems to help a bit.

How Did Your Pet Get Its Name?
mutt lover replied to crazyboutdogz's topic in General Dog Discussion
My old girl Lady got her name as when I got her from rspca 11 years ago she had card on outside of her pen that she was a 'gentle little "Lady" that needed some love, so she got stuck with Lady and she is a Lady as in Lady muck or My Lady and is quite the demanding lady. -
Keeping my fingers crossed for Hannah hope your darling girl makes a full recovery.

Having had a dog killed in a dog attack 11 years ago it is something that doesn't erase itself over time, You are forever fearful when walking any dog after that, In my case it was a malamute which had previously attacked other dogs in area where I lived at time and had been reported and impounded for being out of property, council ranger told me and this is a quote ' It is normal for big dogs to attack small ones'! If this is the mentality of all council ranger's than no wonder this keeps happening over and over again. Malamute was pts and owner did pay the vet bill but only after I put it to them that I was willing to take it to court and had contaced Dr Graeme Smith from lost dogs home who was wonderful and very helpful to me. IMO this is like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted, I was then abused by malamute's owners in the street and told that when I got a new dog they would get another dog and would let that one kill my new dog also there are some people who just shouldn't own animals. A friend of mine had trouble for a couple of years with her baby lamb's going missing thought someone was stealing them as there was no evidence of any attack in paddock nothing until last year when she happened to see a ridgeback type of dog come through next door paddock into paddock where the new lambs were he'd already got 1 but luckily didn't get the other 2, she chased dog out as she couldn't get near it to catch it and seen it went onto property across road from where they live, so confronted the owner who laughed and said ('Oh I'd wondered why he hadn't been hungry lately' ) Unbelievable rang the council ranger they said they'd go and have a talk to them and he advised friend to shoot dog if it came over again.

Our Clydesdale Horse (thirty Years Young) With The Dogs
mutt lover replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
He's a beautiful horse and in great condition for his 30 years is nice to see such a well cared for horse and you're dogs are very beautiful too. -
I've moved several times with my old dog Lady and I feel she knows what's going on when she sees me packing as she gets more clingy than usual, I Wouldn't have it any other way than to have her with me as she's part of my family so wouldn't leave her and bring her later. I even arranged for my horse to come up on same day that I moved as she doesn't like to be away from me either always likes to be in paddock near house so she can see me through the window but it didn't quite happen like that this time as transport broke down so she had to spend 2 nights at transport company's farm but was well looked after but was very stressed when she came being a new strange place and having been away from me for couple of days which has never happened in her 12 years since I bred her. So I'd have to say move with your dog as they can sense whats going on feel they need to be around you to settle in to your new home with you not AFTER.

I either use an oatmeal shampoo or the alloveen, but have also used just the plain old pears soap as its non allergenic and is very good and smells lovely. Have been told by vets but may not be right that some supermarket type dog shampoo's are just basically detergent and will cause itchy inflammed skin, don't know as I've never used them.

Yes absolutely I put it on during day for dogs when I'm at work especially with the hot weather recently and living in northern vic can't survive heat up here without air con on so even if I leave at 8 in the morning will turn it onto around 23 and low fan and just shut lounge door so they can have kitchen and lounge area where its cool. My old girl lady sleeps on my bed and I get barked at If i don't put fan on for her of a night, actually didn't put it on last night didn't think it was hot enough but trying to sleep and getting whined at and her panting keeping me awake so put fan on low just so I could get some sleep and yet the maltese shih tzu has a far thicker coat and hates the air con on likes to sit in the back bedroom which is the hottest room in the house. ( not looking forward to my next electricity bill) but apparently the inverter air con's are supposed to not use a lot of power so I've been told.

Do You Think I've Lost My Bean Bag?
mutt lover replied to mutt lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
yeah is not bad for a $4 bargain at the local Op shop, actually picked up a single bed feather doona with a cover on it with dog and a bone that says 'Mad Mutt' describes my grumpy 1 old 'Lady' to a T. and that was only $4 also and is nice and comfy over top of her bean bag bed now I've taken some beans out, Neighbour just shakes her head and says 'Two very spoilt dogs live here' ;) -

mutt lover replied to mutt lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep figured I was fighting a losing battle trying to get them out with a plastic ice cream container they went everywhere, so went to plan b) got out my dyson cyclonic bagless vac and sucked the little buggers out, worked gr8 then just emptied container into plastic bag made sure I did it outside this time result lady the old spoilt demanding one now loves her doggie bean bag bed and JJ still has the other one and hopefully I can still have the couch to myself. -

I have a doggie bean bag also but must have put too many bean thingy's in it as they neither lady or J use it might take some beans out today and put different cover on as the one that's on is a nylon type material and they don't seem to like it may have to make a cover out of an old sheet or something and attach with velcro. -
Came home from work other day to find JJ in my bean bag he looked so comfy didn't have the heart to tell him to get out, he just about disappeared in there.

I'd be asking your club if they could do anything about it or you could buy some of that professional outdoor surface spray and spray down their hole it works have done that on my property here as there were ant holes everywhere. Failing that the only other solution is boots! Also mix up some pinetarsol or vinegar in a small spray bottle or container and take it with you and rinse dogs paws before go onto oval and before you leave. Also there is a herbal insect repellent called Natures Botanical can get in either creme in small jar or large spray or roll on from any farm produce or camping stores, u could put on dogs paws before you go onto oval and see if that works or also try the stop itch spray won't harm dog if it licks its paws. I know what it's like My horse has itchy lumps all over both sides of her neck at the moment has been scratching on tree in paddock and been bitten by ants also and I've been washing her neck every day in pinetarsol and spraying with vinegar also is a lot better today than what it was earlier in the week. Good luck!

Is it possible she have picked up a TICK but would depend on which area you live if there are ticks there, not sure if it would show up in blood tests, I'd be checking her all over or asking vet to check her all over as the shaking etc sounds like she's picked up a tick. If so get her to vet asap is an emergency dogs will die if not treated. Good luck hope you're baby is OK.

having had a dog killed in a dog attack I know what its like, My suggestion would be to carry something even a bit of short poly pipe in case you need to whack a dog with it I carry a broom handle I cut down I feel it has saved me a couple of times have been abused by owners for hitting their dogs and my reply was 'Well perhaps hitting you may be better as it may knock some sense into you'. Had a bloke tell he once that if my dog didn't run his dog wouldn't of chased her there are moron's in this world who should own goldfish instead of dog's!

OMG my heart was pounding reading your post glad it turned out ok, I lost a dog through the same situation a long time ago he also had been recall trained but somehow forgot about that when he chased a cat across a road and unfortunately a car hit him and he was killed. I blamed myself for trusting him off his lead but had always come back when called, I've never been able to bring myself to let my dogs off lead for run in park ever since I have to have them on a horses 20ft lunge rein so I've still got control. ps. You would of needed a drink or two after that!.
