  1. What a gr8 idea, I guess when you have big dogs is not easy to fit them into something like this that I use for my old girl Lady, Absolutely hated it at first wanted to jump out now loves it.
  2. Glad to hear your little dog is getting better it is very distressing when they are so sick I hope with all my heart that she continues to make a speedy recovery and I'm sure with all the TLC you will be giving you're baby girl she will be back to good health in no time. 11 years ago I had a little dog who was attacked by another dog while we were out walking she sustained broken ribs and a punctured lung, rushed her to the closest vet which wasn't my choice of vet but it happened to be closest to where the attack happened to where we were walking. I'm still fuming to this day that they didn't transfer her to a 24 hour emergency hospital but according to them they didn't consider her injuries to be life threatening even though she'd had a blood transfusion a stent put in to try and control the bleeding from her internal injuries and was put on a drip in a cage with nothing but newspaper on cold hard steel which IMO is soo wrong. I took in her blanket which had been washed and vet nurse got real shitty and said she didn't have time to wash the shit and pee out of it every day to which I replied I'll bring in change of bedding and take home and do it. Anyway I went and saw her the next day after she'd been there overnight I wasn't told they don't monitor over night but they were concerned as she was still in shock and were (debating) if they should send her to a specialist vet hospital as they'd never had a dog with her type of injuries before, (Alarm bells started ringing) but you try and have faith in the vet, anyway second day I went and saw her and the vet was force feeding her 3 large syringes of dog food to which she vomited straight back up, i asked if they should be doing this seeing as she was bleeding internally as was afraid she would rupture where they'd sutured up etc. Vet said there was no reason she couldn't eat was just being stubborn and that when they went in there that morning she was so much brighter was sitting up in her cage and when they opened it & said she bounded out of the cage in a hurry to go to toilet. On 3rd day I had that dreaded phone call at 9am in the morning to tell me that she'd died during the night that she'd drowned in her own blood which I didn't need to hear, as she'd dislodged her drip line over night somehow and they didn't know how ? I was furious, devastated you name it and in a hell of a state after being told she was going to be ok, I put in a complaint to the vet board who investigated but of course the vet told all the lies about the place like they'd never said this or never said that, but funny enough the vet who had treated her resigned about a month later and moved to a practice somewhere in Canberra may be a coincidence but may not be, anyway I still blame myself to this day for not trusting my gut instincts and taking her out of their to a 24 hour hospital who may of been able to save her as IMO the other vet clearly didn't know what the hell they were doing, Oh and I was told by the vet nurse on the phone when she rang to say that "Bonnie" had died that "I should have some sympathy for the other dogs owners as their dog is going to be pts so they will have lost their dog also". At that point I just hung up or I would of said something not very nice, (Sympathy for other dog's owner Yeah Right)!
  3. Like Bailey's mum I had an Aussie terrier X when I was a teenager who used to sit up and beg, shake hands and loved the water sooo much she'd climb up the ladder and get in the above ground pool we had and would swim around then climb back up ladder and get out, We had an old inner tube and I put a board on top of it and sheba jumped in and got on top and floated across the pool like she was surfing, Must of had really good balance she never fell off. She also used to yawn and it used to sound like she was saying "NO" and she always did it at the appropriate time also, One day my mum and I were sitting in the kitchen and Sheba was sitting next to me on the corner bench seat and mum banged the table with her hand and said "Sheba get out of my house". Well Sheba looked back at her and yawned and said "NO" like she understood exactly what mum had just said an animal trainer would of loved to get her she's been the only really smart dog I've ever had and when they were making the Benji series in Aust I took her to a Benji look alike competition which she won and they wanted to buy her as she was the spitting image with the same white mark on side of face also, As if I was going to sell them my dog. Another dog I had Ruffy was supposed to be a terrier x but grew up to look like a sheep so must of had poodle in him same sort of coat, he had a black plastic squeaky rat wouldn't have any other toy, anyway a friend of my mum's was over one day and sitting on couch having a cuppa and ruffy went and put his rat on her lap and she didn't notice at first but when she looked down and saw it she thought it was real and jumped up and screamed and I'm sure ruffy thought it was pretty funny too, then one day I sold a horse rug I no longer needed and he'd been putting it on the rug for me to throw and somehow I'd missed it and realized after girl had gone with rug cause he was running around frantically looking for it that it must of been rolled up in rug, Sure enough an hour later the phone rang and I had to get my dad to drive me an hour to go get his rat we felt so bad and after that he never let it out of his sight even took it to bed and never chewed it up but would never play with anything else. My old girl lady who is around 16-17 bounces up and down on her front legs when it's dinner time looks like a kangaroo, and will come and bark at me if I'm on computer to tell me it's dinner time & tries to sit up & beg but without me holding her front paws or she loses balance and falls over.
  4. It hasn't worked for me, My old girl lady who was around 6 when i got her and is nearly 17 has been the only dog until I acquired a male 3 year old maltese x shih tzu around 6 months ago, she still won't have a bar of him and still refuses to even go for a walk if i take him also definately likes being the only dog and god forbid I actually pat him in her presence if looks could kill. Only plus is at least now she is ignoring him whereas before she'd snarl at him every time he walked past her and he so wants to be friends but seems happy to play with his toys instead and keep out of old grumpy bum's way
  5. Just looked at the Christmas one that's also very cute!. I've had the most awesome weekend Went out to Rushworth not far from where I live yesterday for their annual Easter parade with old cars, and the Clydesdale horses which were paraded through the street before their annual working horse day which was on today at Moora rec reserve not far from Rushworth, was fantastic to see all the beautiful Clydies working the land with the old plough's that were used a long time ago they really are the most beautiful animals and so gentle. I took JJ today my little maltese x Shih tzu that I haven't had for long as coming from an elderly lady that I knew he'd never been out in the world around lots of people or other dogs let alone big horses has only seen my horse and I thought I'd have a yappy little dawg who'd be pulling at lead to go back to car. I was sooo wrong he handled it like a pro was a bit hesitant when other dogs came up to say hello but after he realized they weren't going to eat him he was like OK I'll say hello now, he sat down relaxed the whole time and even got his photo taken by a professional photographer who was there. Gave her my name and address as I'd love to get the photo and send down to his former elderly owner who'd be absolutely rapt I really was amazed at how good he was he's come such a long way in the 6 months I've had him & is no more pooping on floor now either asks to go out now like my old girl Lady does.
  6. Saw this video on you tube and thought I'd post it here is very very very cute, would love to know how they train em to do that. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=pkPNa4DBFHI
  7. Sounds like The mother obviously hasn't any control or doesn't care either, Sounds like security camera's would be a very good idea and also I'd be very worried they may do harm to your dog's if the mother isn't going to listen I'd be having a go at the kids frighten shit out of em like say "I have it on video that you are throwing the knives over my fence and if it doesn't stop now I will be ringing the police and they put kids like you in a kids home where there are other kids that are really mean and will bash you" that may just frighten the crap out of em, a friend said this very thing to neighbours brats she was having trouble with and they were around 10 and 11 and she never had any problems after that.
  8. Years ago when my brother used to own and race greyhounds he used mutton fat on their pads would take a jam jar and get it from a butcher and rub it in after they raced as the sand really made their pads crack and would often bleed and he was recommended this by the greyhound vet he used to take them to.
  9. I've fed my old girl lady on tin science diet light with the science diet dry food, and also on supercoat dry light and have also fed the 4 paws natural chicken and veg from supermarket or boiled diced raw chicken and vegies and dry food, and haven't seen any difference in her poo's at all except is better when she gets vegies because she won't go for walks now so unless I give her vegies and grated carrot every night she gets constipated and giving her parafin every night wouldn't be good for her. An old dog my family had when I was growing up was just fed on Pal with raw bones and he lived till he was 17. I fed lady a tin of an holistic brand of tin food bought at petstock once was quite expensive for can food and supposed to be really good?, Lady was that crook threw up couple of times and had runs all night only seemed to get relief when I was rubbing her tummy for her, so much for the hollistic expensive crap, I'm lucky in that lady loves vegies will eat them on their own and have often given her some steamed vegies for breaky (spoiled mutt), Now if the owner fed herself as well as she does her dog then she'd probably feel a lot better also. :D I really think it depends on the dog what others do ok on others may not and what owners can afford and vet told me that science diet and Ukanuba are ok but if you really want to keep your dog's teeth good is cheaper and better to just give them a bone.
  10. Well I'm wondering now if a lot of people here are going to not use frontline products or other flea stuff which contains mectin's and does this also mean we shouldn't be using heartguard either then, I also have a friend who gives her dog a tea spoon of minced garlic in its food nightly and also swears he never gets fleas, Makes you wonder if we should look into natural alternatives as I recently read that the toxin's from annual injections can cause the wart type lumps like my old girl has got that drive her crazy is always trying to scratch them and rub on carpet. My first horse I owned was allergic to Ivermectin after being stomach drenched at an agistment property his hair all fell out and vet said it was not common but can happen, so had to be very careful in what I used to worm him as vet said it could kill him.
  11. There isn't a hope in hell of forgetting to feed 'My Lady' She gets fed around 4.30 every day and will start the demanding stare around 4.15 and by 4.30 will bark at me and if I'm on computer she will bark louder and keep barking until I get her dinner, told her she's a bossy demanding old bag!.
  12. Aww what a dear old dog and sooo very lucky to have such a wonderful caring owner, I'm so glad he's getting better and hope the meds continue to work for him I want to see pics of him in another 12 months at 16, he's made of tough stuff!
  13. Just had Jj my maltese x to vet other day for same thing his anal glands were squeezed but weren't that bad but he was bum scooting before that and hasn't done it since, and like your dog is always after doing poo's so perhaps it is just because they get itchy there after going to toilet you could watch your dog and see if she has any trouble going to toilet but other than that I think it's just whatever other people have said here.
  14. Awwww rest in peace little Beam that is so sad, LC you are a great neighbour and did a good job in an awkward situation. Don't know that I could trust a dog of mine again if it had done that I reckon I'd be getting it pts.
  15. Just thought of another name FREEDOM FARM
  16. Maybe she's getting doggy dementia and before you the vet told me that dogs like people can get senile in their old age.
  17. Yep was obviously being precious Happy to go out this morning before I went to work and busting to get out after I came home and I will have to take him for walk in future when is raining or just remember to put some paper on floor in case he needs to go he's obviously a bit allergic to rain.
  18. Depending on where you live there are a lot of places that make boat tarps and tarps 4 utes etc there is a good one in pakenham and places that make canvas outdoor blinds often make them also if you want canvas friend got one made out of canvas for her hilux ute with heavy duty zips and plastic type windows in sides was really happy with it and was a reasonable price got it made at a camping place in shepparton.
  19. Glad to read Charlie is on the mend and yep a tablespoon of paraffin oil can get at safeway will help him use his bowels if he's constipated.
  20. Lucky Animals Farm, 4 legs 2nd Chance Farm, 4 Legs Rescue Farm.
  21. Thanks everyone for your advice posted before I saw other thread re dogs not wanting to go out to toilet in rain Back to normal today happy to go out this morning, I've decided what I'll do in future when weather is like that is put his coat and collar and lead on and my rain coat and take him for short walk so he gets used to going out in foul weather also, I guess I've just been very lucky with my old girl lady who's always gone out rain hail or shine and whoever owned her for the 5 years prior to me getting her must of done a great job with the house training as she's only ever had accidents when she hasn't been well now if only she could teach Jj to bark like she does when she wants to go outside.
  22. I think you do not owe them anything as it was their dog that got under fence not yours then I would of offered money for vet bill, And they still have not done anything to fix hole? then IMO they don't care too much to prevent it happening again if you give them money now and it happens again what are you supposed to keep giving them money cause they can't be bothered doing something about it. By all means speak to them and tell them that you are concerned about their little dog getting hurt again and you are more than happy to help them fix the fence that IMO is being a good neighbour, and you shouldn't be made to feel guilty as it wasn't your dog's fault and now you have to supervise your dog when outside as they haven't fixed the problem As others have said perhaps you could put some mesh or even pour some concrete under the area of the fence but the dog will probably find somewhere else to dig a hole anyway is really up to the owners to keep their little dog away from fence.
  23. A male maltese x shihtzu I was given 6 months ago is peeing inside again, he was doing this when he came to me despite fact that he was supposed to be house trained, The last couple of months he's been really good and going outside when my old dog goes out she will bark when she needs to go out and I put him out with her and usually he will go if I continually tell him to go toilet and stand outside with him. I'm hoping it was just because of the wet stormy weather at the weekend but that didn't stop my old dog from going out, I put both their water proof coats on and waited till the worst of the weather had cleared before letting them out but JJ just stood in car port and when he came back inside went and pee'd on the floor rug I was not impressed one bit. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to maybe fix this problem, He is desexed and is 2 1/2 years old. I did growl at him and he got sulks and went back to bed.
  24. Keeping my fingers crossed for you I do hope Charlie's better by later this morning.
