Firstly I do hope Misty will be ok, I lost a little dog to a dog attack 11 years ago and is something that never ever goes away no matter how long it's been. Ever since that day I carry an old broom handle that I had someone cut down to 24" in length and had a hole drilled through and put piece of string as a wrist carry strap, you can hold it quite comfortably in your hand while your walking and not long after I got my new dog I had same scare again but this time I had something to whack offending dog with and it ran off.

I do hope poor little Morrison will be ok; I know exactly how you feel as 11 years ago I lost my silky terrier x to a dog attack while we were out walking also and like your dog she was on a leash also and the offending dog came out of nowhere. Is something you never ever get over and even though I got another dog I was just so nervous when out walking but ever since that day I carry an old piece of broom handle that I cut down to 24 inches long and had a hole drilled through and put piece of string for wrist strap is not bulky like an umbrella and is short enough that you can just grip in your hand and never walked without it after that day is happening way too often these days and I for 1 would not hesitate to use it to protect me or my dog if situation arose again, but sometimes think it would be better to belt owner instead of dog to knock some sense into them.

That's awesome clever dog and seemed to be enjoying it 2!

My old dog 'lady' is 17 gets cartrophen injection monthly for arthritis and is very tottery now doesn't go for walks anymore, but is still quite sprightly in herself and can still get up to ask to go outside to go toilet and is still able to enjoy a good quality of life so looks like she will be around for a while yet, :D

I have stayed here with my dog and loved it, morning glory riverresort.com.au are log cabins with gates to keep dogs in and were allowed inside also good walking tracks is situated 20 mins from echuca moama and 10 mins from barmah forest and wasn't expensive either lots of good facililties.

I also have chain link fencing between neighbors prop and mine and they have a German Sheppard who is scared of my maltese x shih tzu who likes to assert his dominance from his side of the fence. I'd wait until you know what sort of dog they are getting and if its a puppy socialize your dog with theirs and you may not have anything to worry about and may not have to go to the cost of putting weed matting along fence.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
mutt lover replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Just popped in glad there's been a little improvement, left some sultana muffins there and this weeks New Idea thought the reading material needed updating. -
Well I did promise her I'd take her cruisin! I went to rspca million paws walk around shepparton lake last sunday with my friend Katie and her sheltie and her corgi and took my old girl 'Lady' and my other little man 'J.J.' Lady was like "No way I'm staying in this thing I want to walk mum", so she had a little walk until she got tired then I popped her back in her chariot, but she was just so happy to be out and about and socializing with the other dogs and getting a free sausage for lunch! , poor little JJ the maltese x shih tzu was totally overwhelmed by all the other dogs as prior to me getting him he'd lived with an elderly lady and had only had contact with the 2 dogs who lived next door absolutely freaked him out when someone walked by with a Great Dane but he relaxed after his walk and even sought out some doggies who looked just like him to play with.

I've tried both the Sasha's blend and joint guard on my old dog Lady, joint guard helped when her arthritis wasn't too bad but for the last 6 months have been getting the Cartrophen injections monthly and its made a huge difference will get sore just before her next injection is due then seems instant once she's had injection she' s a lot happier. (Pentosan) is same as Cartrophen just a different brand name.

Well looks like I'll be looking for another chariot for 'My Lady' took her out in pram after work tonight and a wheel broke off, perhaps prams are not meant to be wheeled on rough gravel roads or on grass! Off to op shops tomorrow to find another 1 preferably one with bigger wheels might be better I gotta take her to paws walk but won't be able to if I can't find pram may be able to wire wheel up to where it was joined will try that and see what happens.

That's exactly what I was thinking why would you leave your dog outside after that?, I hope they catch the b......s...t...d...s that did it and do the same to them it made me sick and so so sad when I read it on my home page, got a friend up that way am gonna send her an email and tell her to watch out for her dogs.

Keep The Light Shining For Jed - Previous 9pm Tonight

What a lovely idea, Will definitely be doing it here too!. -
Thanks for your kind words everyone, she is very very very special to me, came into my life 11 years ago just after my previous little dog who was very similar to lady was killed in a dog attack while we were out walking. Lady was an older dog when I got her came from rspca in burwood. I am dreading that day which may not be too far ahead as she is 16 nearly 17, but that's what the vets said 12 months ago and the monthly cartrophen injections are still helping and she is in the best (Hotel) so my friends keep telling me, sleeps in my bed in winter under doona when it's cold or on outside covered up with blanket if she doesn't want to stay in and I'm still getting barked at when she wants her dinner or to go outside to toilet so I don't think she's ready to leave me just yet. Wouldn't say she's too rapt in the pram still have to put her harness and lead on and hold lead and keep telling her it's ok otherwise she'd try and jump out and would hurt herself but is slowly getting used to it and I do feel she puts up with it just to be with me. I tell her she's going 'cruisin' but to her that means going out in the car not pram; But if I don't take her and just take other dog I feel sooo guilty and the look she gives me makes me feel even more guilty she has slowed up so suddenly it was only last year that she was still able to do the paws walk around shepparton lake and has done every paws walk in melb and mornington before we moved to the country couple of years ago and it just wouldn't be the same without taking her, so beware any1 who may be going to paws walk in shepparton there will be mad woman with maltese x shih tzu and 'My Lady' in her chariot. :D

My old girl Lady so desperately wants to still go for walks but her little legs have gotten so weary now and she is so tottery it takes 10mins to walk to corner of house next door, it really upsets me as I know just how much she used to love going for walks and now weather is cooler and she sees me taking other dog for walk wants to come too, but gets to corner and can't walk any further so i have to pick her up and bring her home, so I will have to start taking her for walks in this now instead! (my neighbors are gonna think I'm mad)

my thoughts are with you it is never easy to say goodbye but spend some time with your baby and take some photos of you with him. Just a line from a pet's 10 commandments I posted on here a while ago. 10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please, Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this along, as everything is easier for me if you are there, BECAUSE I LOVE YOU SO. I have had to do this a few times with previous dogs and 2 horses there is nothing that will make it easier and less painful for you and like you when I had to do it with the horses I put it off and put it off and even organized a friend to be there when it was going to happen but in the end I couldn't bear to think of my baby's facing that journey without me being there to hug and kiss them one more time.

Thanks for that I now have the perfect excuse next time I'm late for work, my 2 dogs were asleep next to me in bed and I didn't have the heart to wake them! My father used to do this my dog Lady would sit on his lap in the chair and I'd come home from being up at the horse for couple of hours and he hadn't had any lunch (WHY)? because Lady was comfortable and he didn't want to disturb her !

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
mutt lover replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Having had a dog killed in a dog attack by a dog who was not secured on its owners property is something you never ever get over, It is going to keep happening until the laws are made tougher and owners fined a hell of a lot more than what they are now. IMO Even if a dog hasn't attacked if its caught off the owners property regardless of who or how the dog got out the owners should be given a hefty fine that way they might just be a bit more vigilant in securing their property. And IMO if a dog attacks once it should be automatically pts no if's butts or next times, if it does it once it will do it again!. I put in my 2 bobs worth after my former little dog had been killed as the Bureau of Animal Welfare were conducting an info night and wanted suggestions on how to change the laws etc, (fat lot of good that did)! -
11 years ago I lost my beautiful little girl "Bonnie" who was a silky terrier x from a dog attack So say I was a basket case was an understatement. Anyway one day a couple of months later I woke up one morning and had this feeling that I had to go to shelter that there was a dog there for me, can't describe the feeling as up until that day I'd said i wasn't ready to get another dog yet but was like something or someone was pushing me to go to rspca in burwood that day. I saw a card on the outside of a pen that said Female Silky terrier X 8 years old, A gentle lady who's had a hard life and needs some love, but she was curled up hiding in her box in back of kennel. So I went in and sat down just outside her box and spoke softly to her and she lifted her head and was just looking at me but not attempting to get up and come over, I started to cry as I noticed just how much she looked like my former little dog "Bonnie" and as I had my back to her I didn't see her get up but all of a sudden she pushed her little head under my arm and licked my face like she was saying "Don't cry I'll love you" and it was then I knew I'd found another special little Angel to help me overcome my grief of losing Bonnie. Lady turned out to be only around 5 not 8 like rspca had said and is now 16 and am dreading the day that I have to say goodbye to my angel as she has been my little rock, and have wondered why no one went looking for her as she was already house trained and has been the best little dog.

I'm getting mice inside also have been driving me nuts, can't find where the buggers are getting in, checked under sink in kitchen and bathroom and laundry to see if there was a larger hole around pipes but nope & cant find any holes anywhere else, think I need a farm cat? couldn't have 1 inside as I get Asthma from cat fur. I bought some new plastic type traps that have spring on that you just push back down and hold while you put the peanut butter on little tray inside trap and have been catching a few every couple of nights, and to open you just press down back of trap again and eject mouse into bin. That is unless you have problem that I've had couple of times that stupid mice have been caught by a back leg and have run off dragging trap with them first one I got woken up early hours of morning to a tapping sound and dog going nuts at noise only to find mouse had run down hallway with trap in tow gone under second bedroom/puter room door and trap was stuck on outside of door going tap tap tap as mouse tried to get free. second one the other night got up in morning no trap behind sofa hmm ask dogs find mouse! JJ maltese x Shih tzu looked at me like I was mad ;) My Old terrier x girl Lady sniffed around and let me know it was under decorator table had to pull her away as she was just about to dive under tablecloth on table and would of ended up with lamp and stuff on floor was like "I'll get it for ya Mum" 1 in lounge room couldn't see it for table cloth and again was stuck by back leg in trap. so took outside hit it with shovel couldn't bring myself to stand on it hate that squishing noise and chucked it in the bin too easy!. Now I have another problem my old dog lady has seen trap go back behind couch and came home from work yesterday to find she'd gone behind couch and got it and had it in middle of lounge room floor it had snapped closed was very lucky she hadn't got a paw stuck in it as she would of been stuck all day until I got home so now have to pick trap up of a morning before I go to work. I'm sure she's just trying to help She might be 16 but still got that Terrier instinct
-
I've been getting up at 6am instead of 7am to take JJ the precious maltese x (shit) for walk before I leave for work by 7.30 as JJ thinks he's too precious to go outside to toilet early in the morning will just go outside and stand in carport and as I leave him and my old girl lady inside while I'm at work JJ was coming back inside and doing his business on carpet instead so if I take him for walk in morning he then goes to toilet, Hmmm maybe he's not as silly as I thought he was he's making sure mum takes him for walk. I have seen a lady and her children down the road from me walking their dog late in the afternoon I must ask her if she'd mind if JJ and I tag along as I think it motivates you more if you have someone to go walking with every night and I can sleep in an extra hour.

My dog Lady who is still here is 17 next month, was a shelter dog and very very sick when I got her was back to vet every 2nd week for different things when i first got her and it took at least 12 months before she come good. Anyway she's been fed science diet dry food for sensitive stomach's and either science diet light can or boiled chicken and vegies, A family dog we had when I was growing up "Bundle" was fed on pal, dry food and bones and lived till he was 17 also died from pancreatic cancer.
