Thank you I will try this powder, seems that a few people use it successfully. I see on the groomers website it says its for mites and hair removal, does it really help with yeast too? I use it on my Springers and I have 1 boy who in the past has suffered from both yeast and bacterial infections he was treated at the vets for initially, once the infection cleared I have been using Thornit's Powder as a maintenance treatment no infections for about 2.5 years. My dogs are on a wheat free diet. Also my daughters dog gets yeast infections and she also uses Thornits and it clears up in a couple of days. Hope this helps and hope that it helps your dog. My dog is eating Eagle Pack at the moment, does anyone know if this is wheat free? What are some good wheat free foods? I cant go Raw as bones and too much raw meat causes an upset stomach in my pup.

About 2 months ago my lab got a yeast infection in his ear, he seems to be scratching his ears again but no sign of the brown gunk that he had the first time. Any suggestions or tips on keeping the infections away besides using an ear wash frequently and drying his ears after swimming???

Ear Infection- Mites/bacteria/fungus

Firstly pups do hiccough a lot! Dogs with ears that hang and cover their ear openings are very prone to ear infections, my lab pup is 9 months old, he had an ear infection about 6 weeks ago and its flaring up again, its very hard to get rid of. -
Maybe he is just feeling a whole lot better than he has in a while Lets hope so!!!

How long since you had wormed him? I had dewormed him on the 27th december, the vet gave him Drontal to take one on thurs and one on friday as they found eggs in his sample which they could not identify.

On thursday we took my 9 month old pup to the vet as he had a stomach upset, the vet gave him 2x drontal tabs to take and 2 different antibiotics, the one he had never had before called Metrogyl. The first night he was on the tablets he slept fine and his stomach was back to normal, last night he tossed and turned and moved around the whole night, took him out today for some exercise as he has been really hyper yesterday and even after a run around he cannot seem to sleep and has loads of energy! I would phone my vet and ask them if they think its the tablets but they are now closed for the rest of the weekend. What should I do?

I highly doubt that you will get any refund. The way pet insurance in Australia works is that it is an annual policy whereby the annual premium is made monthly (to make it more 'saleable'). If you cancel the policy during the policy year then you have to continue to pay until the end of the policy year (unless you have not claimed at all then there may be a pro rata refund but do not quote me on that). This is the case even if your dog dies - you still need to pay out the policy year. I was just about to say the same thing, I used to work in insurance and if its a 12 month policy you wont be able to cancel it Made my first claim end of November with Petplan, i sent an email this week and they said I should get my refund in the next 2 weeks, they are in for a surprise as I have just sent another claim off today as my pup was sick this week.

Hehehe, I got the new chews and was miffed at no stickers, too. I had to grow up a little and actually write on my calendar BTW, does anyone else find the packaging huge and hard to open? Yes I found it a bit hard to open!

None in my pack either...

I can also see why they suggested it as neither hubby or I can hold him with a normal collar he is very strong but i feel he has to now learn to walk nicely because if we leave it any longer he is never going to learn. He is so smart it cant be impossible to teach him to do this! I have tried the harness where you clip the lead to the front and that didnt work at all for us.

Yes I do go to obedience classes, they say I must keep on with the gentle leader. MM, you probably know this but some clubs won't allow gentle leaders. eg. the obedience club near us (I have never been) will not allow them. I know this because we have an old lady in our street that owns a lovely youngish goldie -- however she is just too weak to hold him so she uses a halti. Is it worth calling around a few clubs, or reaching out to a few WA DOLers and asking of clubs that won't allow them as a regular option ? I am presuming this is because they prefer to teach the 'right' way to walk without needing a halti. It's a tough one, because you want to NOT use it but in the interim it's impossible to walk him. It is a hard one and at this stage in the game I dont really have the money to do personal training , I am looking for a job so maybe once I get one I can look at this option. I am meeting a friend at the park tomorrow night and we are going to work with him a bit.

I have a labrador thats nearly 9 months old now, from about 16 weeks he started to pull on lead and we were advised to get him a gentle leader halter and use that when we walk him etc. Now thats all well and good but at 9 months he still cannot walk nicely on lead without the gentle leader, he pulls and lunges to get to people/other dogs, when no one else is around he is way better. I have tried to just stop and making him sit and wait, I have tried changing directions when he pulls. None if it seems to work. Another thing is that he has no recall off lead, am I expecting too much from him at 9 months?

I'm thinking about trying Kwinana dog beach this weekend, but I'm not sure on the directions. Can anyone please help? Might try it with you if I can get directions...

Yip saw loads of them when I lived back in South Africa, also never saw any brindle, they can be very protective and are good watch dogs which is why I think they are popular over there.

No he only had it for a short while, 1x tablet for 3 days, then half a tablet for 3 days and then half a tab every second day, he only had 8 tablets all together.

Health Food Store. It comes in a packet. Calendula is Marigold Flowers (dried). Use the toe of an old socking to put a tablespoon or two in, pour boiling water and brew it to make the tea. Let it steep until it cools. You can then use a flannel saturated with it to rub in and through your dog's coat, down to the skin. Thanks Erny, will give it a try!

Can you buy the Calendula Tea Wash in a pet store or health store??

He gets in about 2x a day and his tummy and legs get soaked. His back is usually dry, his tail is sometimes wet too. The base of the tail is one of the areas that really smells.

His feet smell like the usual Dorito feet lol. I have checked between his toes etc and cant see any signs of yeast etc, I did make the vet check last monday too because I had read on here that it spreads from ears to feet. I put apple cider vinegar in his splash pool today and he smells loads better, think i will try rinse him with this once a day for a week or so and see what happens. Edited to say that he only started smelling like this after he had cortisone for his ear infection.

He was on Advance and is now on Eagle Pack, he started smelling on the Advance though. How long has he been on Eagle Pack? If not long, it could take a while for whatever it was in the Advance that got him started to get out of his system. If it's been a while, compare the ingredients and if you find one in common (particularly a grain) think about removing that from his diet for a while. He has only been on it for 2 weeks on thursday and even then not 100% as we mixed the 2 to get him used to it etc.

He was seen by the vet, the only thing she can think of was that it was his anal glands, she cleaned them out but to be honest he still smells the same, she also gave us Malaseb to wash him with, we have done it once now but no change in smell...
