  1. I think I want to go and play in that playground! I love the name Beth for a black lab! :D A doler (RIP) named her black lab Bess which I also like. Hehehe, you can babysit the puppy, and train it for me!!! I will pup sit it for sure!! I think mason's behaviour is getting better dont you think??
  2. Where did you go this afternoon?? I would have sooo come with you, LOVE puppies lol! I am going to be so clever with my next pup when I get him one day and start the training early, i have learnt so much with Mason so the next one will be a The breeder I met at K9 put me onto her friend who breeds under her prefix coz she had puppies - I went to meet them and put my name down with them for their next litter, and to see their current puppies. You would have loved it Candice! I didn't want to come home! I probably would have come home with another dog and Mau would have killed me Sigh maybe in 2 or 3 years time.... Welllllllllll..... shall I give you the breeders details? :D You can make an appt to go see the puppy?! Nah I really want another lab ( think i need therapy, 2 will be a handful) , next time it will be a yellow male so that I have one of each but goldies are my second fav after labs, they also have such friendly personality's. When you get a pup I will go with you to see them.

  5. Goldies make the cutest pups, Mason had this lovely pup Stanley in his pup class and he was adorable, I often wonder what happened to him as his owners never brought him back to obedience classes after pup class. Rosie is the coolest fox terrier I have ever met, love her character!!
  6. Tell me about it, Mason is also exhausted!! Do you also live in Kwinana??
  7. LOL!! Dougal was so funny when he gate crashed that party!!! If any of the dogs are going to pass for guide dogs in training its my boy, on lead he is not too bad and at least he is a lab, with a guide dog harness on he would look the part..
  8. Be careful that you dont overdue it because you could really hurt yourself
  9. Great post Vickie. I agree - we have 3 dogs in the house and a large amount of the time you would not know they are there. We have had an awful afternoon/night due to a few family things so that dogs have had hardly anytime spent with them and yet when I said go and settle down, that is it - they do. Right now there is 1 dog laying behind my chair and 2 on the lounge, all relaxed as they know nothing is going to happen and hassling me will not work. My lab is a bit like that, he has times when he is very switched on and very energetic which works well for training but then a lot of the time he sleeps and does his own thing, being an only dog he has learnt to entertain himself quite a bit, saying that though I only work part time so he is only left to his own devices about 5hrs of the day.
  10. Let me know if any of your ideas work. I tend to just say too bad try again and I dont reward Mason because he is 11 months only so I could fix it I guess, and now and then when I ask for heel position he sits in a way I am not happy with but I do feel bad not rewarding him as in his mind he is going to that position etc but this week I have been strict on him and I do see a little improvement.
  11. Dont get me wrong I am not finding fault etc I think that it was a great video, I am only asking as my boy does the same thing and I am wondering what you did or how you train them to not do it as its something Mason does very very often, I dont want to not click and treat as he is going to heel position but just not the heel position i would like and i dont want to praise him etc as its not 100% correct, its little things like this that I need help with
  12. Thanks for the video it helped a lot! Would love to have a go at doing this. I noticed something that your dog does, when he/she bring the article back and gives it to you, he/she then goes into heel position but sits so that he/she faces you slightly?? Mason has been doing this at times and I have been correcting him by making him face forward ONLY, is this wrong, do a lot of dogs do this?? Katie I probably wont make it down this monday night but I would love to watch Ruby do scent work. Would love to see if Mason would do some work at the K9 as that are where a lot of trials are held and I havent taken him there as yet.
  13. I saw your video but I am so clueless I needed to see how you scented the articles etc, would like to give it a go but we need to do it under guidance of someone who has trained it before, after all I dont want to be teaching the wrong thing Where did you get your articles Rubystar??
  14. Thanks for explaining, like I said before I am clueless, had never even heard of this before.
  15. And do you always use metal or is it sometimes wood?? And in competitions is it wood or metal??
  16. I also have a lawn mower chaser ;) and mine tends to bark at them if I wont let him chase it lol! One question, what is the article scented with, and if you cant touch the unscented objects how do you lay them out? I may be getting the wrong end of the stick, I have never seen any scent work done etc so I am totally clueless but it sounds like fun
  17. I will, with only one eye open, late nights every night this week and I am going to have to leave here maybe 7h10 to get there by 8am.....
  18. The vet thought that my pup had Giardia in the beginning of the year, they gave him Drontal for 2 days in a row and 2 sets of different antibiotics, it turned out that luckily he didnt have it but they needed to start treatment before the lab results were back.
  19. I have heard this place Eat Greek is very good. http://www.eatgreek.com.au/
  20. Yes pleeeeease!!!!! Had a friend call around this afternoon for a coffee. I'd told her about Pele's obsession with Cuz toys. Went inside and got new un-desqueaked Cuz and Pele went nuts. All her backyard toys are de-squeaked ones. She went crazy. Then I brought out 2 i-squeaks and the Cuz was forgotten Oh dear, we have a tooth hole in the large i-squeak 'cos Pele is on a mission to de-squeak it Pele is so gentle with her soft, squeaky toys and has toys from when she came home at 8 weeks old that she still plays with and they still squeak. Cuz toys and now i-squeaks have to be "killed" I took them off her and hid them on a high shelf in the back shed and she's spent all afternoon looking for them, even after I shut the roller door Jeeze I'm a mean bitch! I ordered a Dexter the elephant cuz for my boy which arrived yesterday..... i-squeaks are forgotten he LOVES his elephant but then I should have known he is obsessed with them, he has 2 stuffed elephants also.
  21. The nice thing about obedience training is that the dogs can only concentrate for such short bursts, I myself do about 10 mins in the morning and then about 10 or 15 mins training again in the evening so it doesnt take that much time. Its the walking them etc that takes way more time IMO I am only doing obedience at the moment but if all goes well on the tracking open day on saturday then we will also be giving tracking a go, I think its something Mason will enjoy. It does take a bit of time though as training is a few hrs each saturday morning.
  22. I would love to watch someone who knows what they are doing work with my dog, sometimes I think him and I are like the blind leading the blind...
  23. I may try the Anchovy and Salmon from the next bag as he is a very itchy dog, dont know if it will help any, he scratches a lot at this time of year so I know changing the food probably wont help all that much but we will see. He has also never been on a food with no chicken in so it will be interesting to see if it makes a difference at all to his scratching. I feed around the same at the moment, Mason weighed 32,5 Kg the last time I weighed him but he seems to have lost a bit of weight as I have been watching his weight.
