  1. I have been good, havent had one easter treat yet
  2. I will have a think about moving closer, will probably only be in 2 years tho, dont feel for moving as just yet as we have just moved...
  3. I used to go down there quite often as I am just up the road in Ellenbrook, I stopped going after I saw 3 dog fights happen in the off lead enclosure, I dont really like my dog to play with dogs I dont know anymore after he was attacked.
  4. I am also getting very jelous, training and food, almost my 2 favorite things in the whole world besides chocolate.....
  5. I know there is a place in Wangara that does roo meat for pet consumption and also a place in Midland, not sure of either of their names though you would have to just google it. I would also like to feed more raw mince ( my boy cant digest bones ) so if you find out about either I would love to hear how good their prices are etc.
  6. For some dogs, their conformation doesn't make it impossible but it does make it more difficult. For the size of a Lab's leg length, it has to propel a hell of a lot of body and weight over a significant height. Contrast a Labrador and a Hungarian Vizsla's conformation and note that they will jump the same height in agility. The dog with the longer leg length in proportion to height and the lower body weight will have the athletic advantage. Which of these two dogs of approximately the same height is going to get over jumps and narrow dog walks more easily. Bear in mind that the Lab will probably be up to 10kg heavier too. I agree 100% with you , if you look at the 2 dogs which one looks naturally more able to jump? Sure they both might make it over the jump or obstacles but which one is the most naturally athletic?? and which one would it be easier for, of course the light boned dog. Here is a pic of my dog, we have been told he is a bit too heavy at the moment and would need to lose weight if i want to join agility, he isnt fat or overweight so he would have to be half starved to shift anything off him. There are many labs with different shaped bodies etc and a friend of mine has a very lightly built girl who is very agile and she will do well, then there are the heavyset ones, and I wouldnt use them for agility its not fair.
  7. I had 2 ridgeback sisters that I had the same problem with, I would take one to the vet etc and when we got back we would have a huge issue, I would have to seperate them in 2 different sections of the yard and only let them sniff each other through a gate. The one was a very dominant dog though and she ruled the roost for 5 years until they had a massive fight that left one with a nicked jugular vein and then the roles reversed for awhile. IMO it is all about dominance, I also used to think that maybe the one who went out came back smelling of other dogs etc and that also sparked it off. My dogs are 10 now and they have stopped doing this.
  8. LOL no it just seems that way Mondays is obedience and yes we do train together Tuesday is agility night for others but we are doing obedience at the moment Wednesdays is obedience/agility and yes we do train together Thursday and Friday are W or C night (Wine or Cider) ;) Wish I lived closer to the K9, I feel a move coming on...... ;)
  9. Pumpkin, ham, lots of goat, chicken, yoghurt and yep buckets of cheese and sweet potato I take that back, not poor Beans, her treats sound delish!! My girls want in on that They get the boring options with me But hey, like we've discussed, I own a breed that would work for a strip of lettuce Mason is a bit fussier when it comes to treats he will work for anything at home, the other day OH was eating crisps and mason was drooling so I took some from him and Mason worked for crisps BUT when we go to class its another story, he will only work for meat, I tried cheese the one day and you would swear I had offered him the most horrible food ever, he wouldnt even sit for it AND that was the day we had our asssessment to go up to the trialling classes, I was soooo embaressed!!
  10. Millie is definately more agile and quick than Mason, both your girls are actually
  11. In case I forget when we are together on Sunday. Beans is allergic to lots and lots of foods - so need to keep the esky lids on and not let her hijack Ruby's treats. What food do you use as a treat for her??
  12. Biltong.... that could cost you an arm and a leg
  13. He is big and very lovely! Maybe I judged the labs too harshly maybe they can do well in agility, I just see all these quick dogs and I thought what are my chances ......
  14. For my Chesapeake his agility training will commence at 2 and I will take over 6 months to have him jumping full height. In the meantime I am going to try my hand at retrieving, obidience and tracking (he is also a show dog). The slowest dog can win if it is the only one to jump clear. Don't let what people say put you off a breed you love. Chesapeakes (in the states) compete and win in agility trials, the Canadian National team had a Lab on it a few years ago, look at the FCI world team lists, you will find Lab's and Goldies. :D (Among all the BC's ) How big will Lincoln be? I have never seen a fully grown Chesapeake I guess some labs are built differently to others. I saw a poster of a border collie at the library who is looking for a new home and I thought to myself hmmmm here is my chance to get a dog for agility
  15. The supermarket had no 4Legs or Chunkers all last week that I could find, due to the blackouts and them losing their fridge stock. So I had to train with these dry little treats you get in the dog food aisle (their price has gone up like 200% since I first used them when Ruby was a pup!) My girls still screamed yes mum, please train me even with those!! And I was doing learning type stuff with it, too, like scent discrimination! Ah, the beauty of having Labs!! ;) Try BBQ sausage, Mason loves it more than anything. He isn't keen on 4Legs. I buy the sausages bulk and split them up into 2 or 3 for the freezer. I use hotdog sometimes. Last night's menu was hotdog and cheese :D Mum commented that I could go and snack if I didn't feel like training the dogs :D Sometimes when Mason ignore a command when I am training I will eat his treat if its a BBQ sausage I'm cruel arent i
  16. You may not be able to beat the fast dogs for speed but if your boy can leave the bars up and do a reasonable clip you'll do just fine. In agility, the race isn't just about speed but about accuracy and consistency. There have been some great dogs who weren't working dogs over the years. At our club we had a Bernese Mountain Dog get his Masters Agility and Jumping titles. There's a lot to enjoy about the sport other than winning. Watching your dog have fun and improving your skills as a team is immensely rewarding. I am sure there is more to it than winning but its just not for my dog, we have already been told by some instructors that he is not built for it, he eats hardly anything as it is, he isnt fat at all but just doesnt have the right build IMO to jump etc. What I should have written is I would like to do a sport where he COULD compete successfully and have fun, which is why I am tacking him to tracking.
  17. I bet you though your little dogs would be way faster than Mason I just dont think Mason would be cut out for it, he is very heavy in front and I dont know if he would manage the jumping, probably would for awhile but it could damage his joints.

  19. I have a lab who is now 12 months old and I was keen to do agility ( at our club they can only start training at 14 months and only then if they can behave off lead) but now I have watched all the kelpies and the collies etc compete and in my mind my boy isnt cut out for that, he may have fun doing it BUT he will never achieve much if we compete, he isnt as quick as other breeds. Its just my opinion and i dont like to compete in things unless I can do fairly well.
  20. My lab has the medium, I think the large would be too big for him to fit in his mouth, and if he cant run around squeaking it, where is the fun in that Edited to ad the pic in my signature is him with his ball :D
  21. I only left home when I moved overseas ...
  22. Ermm MM have you seen my videos??? My handling is appalling! Bad handling is no excuse not to post videos Lol if you think your handling is bad you would faint if you saw mine, I think your video's are quite good actually Mason's mum I have just the cure for your bad handling "Bedazzled where are you" - hmm what did you call it last night Caffy - blunt and to the point???? Happy to pick on you any time I think I am my worst critic lol! Its good that I did the video though as its given me loads to work on, this morning when I trained I was very conscious of all the incorrect things I tend to do.
