  1. Funny you should mention the dam water as my boy was swimming yesterday and sunday in river water
  2. He is 13 months old. We bath him in Malaseb once a week or once every second week ( have noticed in the past 2 weeks it seems to make little difference) and he gets 4 fish oil caps a day and grapeseed extract. He has been on homeopathic allergy pills too but I am asking the vet about normal anti-histamines from him as when he is having a bad day they dont seem to give him much relief. I would love to have all the allergy tests done etc, just need to find out prices - we are on Petplan and his allergies only flared up after we joined so they should pay for it ??
  3. No we haven't - his allergies have never been this bad before, I had seen a naturopath and she has given us a couple of things to try, we tried to only feed him fish based food and no other treats etc, we did that for a couple of weeks and it never seemed to make a difference he still scratched some days ( he would be fine for like 2 or 3 days and then scratch again). I am going to speak to my vets about sending us to Murdoch if they think his feet are allergy related, he also has itchy ears at the moment and he is prone to yeast infections so maybe its even a yeast infection on his feet, I wont know until we have been to the vet.
  4. Pollen's, grass and most plants are the worst culprits but anything with a fragrance like detergent also make it worse ......
  5. I did wash my carpet once this week, its the only thing that has changed etc.
  6. Grass sets off Mason's itching so it could be allergy related, they dont really smell althought my first thought was yeast infection. I may have to look at getting a pair of boots for him too.
  7. I noticed after I touched them for the photos he is licking them, I heard him scratching last night but I just thought it was his allergies bothering him and gave him anti-histamine.
  8. Some of you may remember that I posted a pic of a sore on my dogs paw about 9 days ago, the sore went away and I thought he had just hurt himself out walking, tonight OH called me to the lounge room and said to take a look at our dogs paws, 3 of his paws have open sores on them and the back ones are red and sore between the paws, anyone seen this before? I will take him to the vet tomorrow as it looks terrible.
  9. They have a members competition this weekend so it would be nice for you to watch - just go up to the van that will be parked on the field and they will answer and questions that you have, we wont be there this weekend as I am going to watch a retrieving trial.
  10. We held onto the papers of our limit registered pup... the dog was to be sterilised before it would have been ready to compete in dog sports (not that they wanted to compete anyway). By holding onto the papers they couldn't "accidently" breed with the dog and show a copy of his paperwork to say the parents were registered. They got the papers and a $300 refund once they sent the sterilisation certificate And they certainly didn't have any problems with it as unless you want to breed or are ready to compete the papers don't mean anything anyway. If the dog is show quality and you may want to try showing ask the breeder if you can transfer her to the Neuter register as well. Not many Clubs run neuter events but they are bringing in a neuter championship title We do the same as do many breeders Physically having the papers in their hands or not aside, does this mean the dog is still in the breeders name, too? I think it would mean that......
  11. Mason's favorite is BBQ sausage but he also likes 4Legs, the chicken ones, I havent tried the beef as yet but he will train for just about anything. I had Macca's chips the other day and he trained like a star for a few
  12. My kids are terrible at walking on a lead, especially if I am walking more than one - but then its not important to me - so sorry no help whatsoever. I took my kids for their first session at the local oval tonight and they were all working like they had had "speed" for lunch. It wasn't always pretty but I would give them 20/10 for enthusiasm :D Have pencilled in July for Lexi's UD debut ;) I wouldnt mind if Mason was a bit smaller but when there are other dogs around I feel like he is about to dislocate my elbow :p I will work on it with the clicker again like I did when he was younger.
  13. I don't know if you watch Cesar Milan but I'm a big fan and I can now walk my pack of three dogs on a loose lead beside me . No I havent seen his video's etc, what does he recommend doing?
  14. Anyone got any good tips on stopping a dog from pulling on lead? Mason has started this up again and if we are in an area with other dogs he just seems to want to tow me around no matter what I do. I have tried pulling him back to me and just stopping, I have tried going the other way, but so far he doesnt seem bothered by either of those 2 things.
  15. That's too bad He is just being a bit of a ratbag lately and I wouldnt enjoy the seminar with him this year - his pulling is driving me mad I am on the brink of making him wear a gentle leader again and not care if his face swells as he rubs it on the grass the whole time with the leader on
  16. Mine is being a bit of a pain at the moment, since i started tracking he pulls like a steam train on his lead and in tracking you want the dog to be eager to go and you cannot get a lead long enough to keep up with Mason's running out on a track I have decided that I am not going to do the Rally O seminar, it sounds fun but Mason is a bit too much for me for a whole day out.
  17. According to the guys who took our group, that rule( of whatever you want to call it) is now recognised. Masons weak spots are that he will often fetch the item but a- not come back to me directly, he will first say hello to other dogs. b- not come back at all c- come back and drop the bumper at liberty..... So we have loads of work but I am teaming up with a lady who lives near me
  18. I really enjoyed the retrieving day, I am going to make a plan to get Mason into it, he enjoyed it so much!
  19. Lol lucky mine has not ever counter surfed yet but he is still young and anything could happen. He is a pretty submissive dog and looks to us for guidance all the time...
  20. My dog wont eat his food until i say 'ok,' he always waited for us to tell him he could eat its not something I was trying to teach him so I cant give you any tips on that lol.
  21. Northern Suburbs Dog Club is not far from you, I used to go from Embleton and I now drive there from Ellenbrook. They do the junior classes on a sunday morning at 09h00 and the trialling classes at 10h30. Any other questions just send me a PM, Northern Suburbs is one of the biggest clubs in Perth. Edited to add that at our club they do puppy obedience
  22. Huski would you like to come to WA to train my brat??? I have had flu this week and have had no patience to train him
  23. And this is precisely why I DON'T go to 'dog parks'. Thats fair enough and I would expect other people who dont want their dogs to be greeted by other dogs to also stay away from dog parks, there are plenty of parks that are not designated dog parks where they could take their dogs. Agree totally with you. Or petition your council to have small and large dog areas in the off-leash dog parks. That's what I'm doing. The large and small section being separate is a very good idea
  24. You might think it's OK but I'm assuming you have a big dog? My Mini Foxie is not a woosy, precious little bit, but she is little. I don't want over boisterous larger dogs, of any breed, bowling up to her. If my dog is under effective control why can I not expect other dogs to be? Yes, I know, it's not a perfect world. Hi, I agree with you as an owner of both large and a small dog. That is why I petitioning our council to have segregated areas - one for large and one for small - most problems at off-leash areas would end. I love my bigger dogs running and playing with the labs or in fact any other dog at the park, however one in particular can be boisterous and I will always halt her play and make her settle if it starts to get out of control. Off-leash parks are there for the dogs to run and play etc - we have a number of guide dogs/assistance dogs that are working 7 days a week, and are perfectly trained, however when they come to the off-leash park, they are allowed to be dogs, and that means running, being boisterous etc. I think that if owners of any dogs don't like that, then perhaps they should not take their dogs to an off-leash park - there are other options available (for instance our park has a track on the other side of the off-leash oval which is perfect for those that just want to do laps with their dogs. To me, an off-leash dog park is an area where dogs can play, romp, run etc etc, if you have a dog and you don't want it to participate in those activities, but just want to walk it, I would not take a dog to an off-leash park. I don't take my small dog to off-leash parks anymore - she is small, old and getting cranky. I don't want her be bowled over. I take her for walks on lead around the neighbourhood - she's happy, I'm happy. I agree 100% - here in WA most of the parks are on lead only there are only a few which are off lead and then we have the dog beaches as well.
  25. I hope Spike gets all the help he needs I also have cats so am unable to offer him a place to stay.
